Literary Portraits of the Louisiana Woman by Novelists George W. Cable, Kate Chopin and Ernest J. Gaines

Abstract This thesis examines the portrayal of women in three distinct novels set in different historical periods within the State of Louisiana. The novels under analysis are The Grandissimes by George W. Cable, The Awakening by Kate Chopin, and Catherine Carmier by Ernest J. Gaines. The thesis begins by providing a comprehensive historical and cultural background of Louisiana, focusing on the treatment of women, and highlighting racial, ethnic, and religious influences. Each author is then individually examined along with their life, literary career, and the central themes they explore. Special attention is given to the prominent female characters in each work, with an emphasis on their individual stories, cultural and social contexts, and roles within the narrative. By comparing the portrayals of these female characters, who share French ancestry and the Catholic faith, the thesis aims to enhance understanding of the representation of women in Louisiana literature.

The thesis addresses the effective inclusion of gender and feminism issues into education. The theoretical part of the thesis describes the basic concepts of gender and feminism, their development, and current issues - mainly targeting the topics of gender roles and stereotypes in society, feminized positions, and the issue of gender pay-gap. The following part of the thesis focuses on the area of the Czech education system and tries to answer these associated questions: Are some of the mentioned stereotypes applied in Czech education? How does gender-sensitive education work? How is feminism viewed within Civic Education? The practical part of the thesis is then devoted to the application of the theoretical knowledge and shows the model lessons addressing the topic of feminism and gender, included in the curriculum of Civic Education. These lessons were used in lessons of Civic Education at the EDUCAnet Grammar School České Budějovice s.r.o. Prior to the implementation of these lessons, students filled in a questionnaire focused on the topic of gender and feminism. After completing the lessons, a reflection on the effectiveness and their impact on the students was conducted.

Our society is dealing with inadequacy of sexual councelling, resulting into relationship problems and variety of mental and physical damage. In this work I’m presenting a solution in the form of a mobile gallery, Sexshop nomad gallery, with a mission to destroy of patriarchal models of sexual behavior, which we often hold unknowingly. Many of those damaging models come from mainstream pornography, which we will tackle by means of art and discussion. We intend to bring conversation on this topic – and more to come – into places overlooked by current institutionalized sexual education.
Change in the perception of feminism in Czech literary magazines in the 2010s

This thesis examines the change in the perception of feminism on the pages of three Czech literary magazines between 2011 and 2020, i.e. in the 2010s. The thesis includes a brief presentation of the historical development of the women's movement in a global perspective and in the context of the Czech territory, as well as the theoretical definition of the concepts of feminism and gender. An important part of the thesis is also a presentation of the current perception of feminism in Czech society and the events that have shaped the image of feminism in the Czech Republic since the early 1990s. Furthermore, the thesis reflects on contemporary Czech literature and its relationship to feminism, including personalities occupying strong points of view on different poles. The whole theoretical background is then used in the analysis of three particular literary journals: A2, Host and Tvar. In these literary magazines, texts dealing with feminist topics are captured through content analysis. Subsequently, these texts are further processed and categorized. The thesis (Re)Production of the Canon in the 20th Century Architectural Historiography: Critical Analysis deals with the topic of the architectural canon and especially on a critical reflection on the principles of its formation. The thesis presents the theoretical background and argumentation appearing in both foreign and czech texts (published from the second wave of feminism to the present) that view the architectural canon and the interpretation of architectural history critically - primarily through the cathegory of gender. The analytical part of the thesis focuses on a quantitative and qualitative content analysis of syllabi for survey courses on the history of architecture taught at Czech universities, with the aim of answering the research question: How is the history of 20th century architecture taught at universities in the Czech Republic - and to what extent is it a history that takes into account the creative contribution of women? Media, women and the reproduction of symbolic violence

Diploma thesis analyses the reproduction of symbolic violence in selected Czech media. Namely, the newspapers Blesk, MF Dnes, Lidové noviny, Právo, Aha!, Hospodářské noviny and the internet servers blesk.cz, idnes.cz, lidovky.cz, novinky.cz, ahaonline.cz, hn.cz. In the first part, the thesis analyses the key theoretical background, concepts and ideas that support the analytical part of the thesis. The main aim of the thesis is to offer a comprehensive typology of symbolic violence in the Czech media environment. That is, whether, and in what ways, the mass media perpetuate gender inequalities and unequally distribute power in society through language. Given the complexity of the concept of symbolic violence, the thesis uses a combination of content and discursive analysis. The findings present a comprehensive overview of the occurrence of symbolic violence in the selected media.
Femvertising in the body cosmetics industry in the Czech republic

This bachelor thesis focuses on the trend of femvertising in advertisements for body cosmetics in the Czech Republic. Femvertising is a relatively new phenomenon used in promotions that seek to present positive images of women and to counteract gender stereotypes. The aim of the study was to determine whether and how elements of femvertising are present in the selected advertisements intended for the Czech market from 2019-2022. For this purpose, a qualitative content analysis was conducted, which showed that elements of femvertising are present in all the selected advertisements and three of them could be described as fully femvertising.
The Role of Women in the Reforms in Saudi Arabia

This qualitative single case study examines the role of women in Saudi Arabia's ongoing reforms, employing the lenses of modernization theory and normative feminism to offer a comprehensive analysis of this socio-political and economic transformation. Considering the complexity of the topic and the uniqueness of the monarchical political and social system of Saudi Arabia, this thesis provides a nuanced understanding of the factors shaping women's participation and agency within the reform process. The thesis uncovers the complex interplay between modernization and gendered norms in Saudi Arabia through in-depth interviews, document analysis, and participant observation. The findings reveal that women's increased participation in the labor market, education, and political representation, contributed to the nation's broader developmental goals under Vision 2030. Finally, it offers valuable insights into the evolving roles of women within Saudi Arabia's reform process, illuminating the importance of addressing structural and normative barriers to gender equality. The Formation of Authority in Women's Volleyball: The Influence of Gender on Building Power Techniques and Strategies in Coaching

This bachelor's thesis is about the influence of gender on the construction of power techniques or strategies that female volleyball coaches use to build their authority. It analyses the attitudes of male and female coaches towards their trainees and their interaction with them, but also with other coaches within the framework of cooperation in one team. The thesis focuses on the individual findings of the interviewed respondents who influence the building of authority and communication with the wards of the performance level of volleyball. The work is based on the assumption that women and men, depending on gender, bring different methods to sport through which they shape their authority and communication. In the theoretical part, gender and the sports environment which is associated with masculinity are discussed (Connell, 1995). Furthermore, attention is paid to the role of the coach and his competencies, including the concept of authority and its distribution, which in the coach's position is central to cooperation with the trainees.
