The English Language as an Activating Element in the Teaching of Music Education at Secondary Schools

The bachelor thesis is concerned with the utilisation of the English language as an activating element in the teaching of music education at secondary schools. It analyses the relationship between music and language and provides a theoretical explanation and characterisation of teaching and activating methods. The thesis also examines the Framework Educational Programme for Basic Education and explores possibilities for interdisciplinary connections between music education and the English language. Based on theoretical knowledge, the thesis proposes specific possibilities of application of the English language into music education. This thesis deals with the use of digital technologies in English classes at lowersecondary schools in the Czech Republic. The theoretical part concerns the definition of the digital technologies, the use of interactive aid, applications, and tools in English classes. Its impact on pupil's language ability and benefits and disadvantages of the use of digital technologies in education. The practical part introduces two questionnaires aimed at teachers and pupils of lower-secondary schools. It also deals with the activities with the use of digital technologies, class preparation with the help of digital technologies, and its impact on teacher's and pupil's performance in English classes.
Using on-line Communication not Only in English Classes

This diploma thesis explores the possibilities of using international online communication in English lessons at the lower secondary level of elementary schools. In this case, information and communication technologies are intended to enhance the effectiveness of teaching and increase the intrinsic motivation to study the English language by providing an authentic space for communication with foreign pupils of similar age. Cross-curricular themes and interdisciplinary relationships with an emphasis on Geography play a significant role in such communication. The theoretical foundations of the international online communication are studied in the theoretical part of the thesis in order to enhance its potential in education. Key competencies, particularly digital and communicative skills, are discussed. Additionally, pedagogical and psychological aspects of the topic are explored. The practical part focuses on the specific implementation in practice, with the first objective being to prepare, test, and reflect on the activities. Teaching English as a foreign language in selected alternative primary schools

This diploma thesis deals with the teaching of the English language at alternative primary schools. The theoretical part focuses on the development of alternative schools and then on the analysis of the selected ones, i.e., Montessori, Waldorf and Jenna school. For each school, their main philosophy and approach to foreign language education is explained. The practical part is conceived as qualitative research that took place at three selected alternative schools using the method of observation and interview. The aim was to find out and describe the approach to teaching English at selected schools, focusing on four areas, namely the role of the teacher, the use of foreign language during the lessons, the used materials and aids and the approach to the development of reading and writing.
The use of memory techniques in teaching English vocabulary - intervention study

Diplomová práce se zaměřuje na problematiku osvojování slovní zásoby v cizím jazyce. Představuje intervenční studii ověřující přínos Metody slovíček v příbězích při osvojení nové slovní zásoby v anglickém jazyce u dětí mladšího školního věku. Teoretická část je rozdělena do tří kapitol, ve kterých představuje aktuální poznatky o paměti. Zabývá se také paměťovými technikami a možnostmi využití paměťových technik při osvojování a výuce slovní zásoby. Práce popisuje jak pojetí, tak současný stav poznání daných pojmů ve vztahu k učení a úspěšnému rozvoji cizojazyčných kompetencí. Praktická část se opírá o kvantitativní výzkum, ve kterém proběhla výuka slovní zásoby anglického jazyka pomocí vybraných paměťových technik. Samotné výzkumné šetření probíhalo ve dvou výzkumných skupinách žáků 4. ročníků po dobu 12 týdnů. Kromě úrovně osvojení jazyka a slovní zásoby včetně pravopisu slov byly sledovány také individuální rozdíly v paměťových schopnostech žáků. Výsledky výzkumného šetření poukázaly na statisticky významné rozdíly ve prospěch žáků experimentální skupiny v úlohách zaměřených na osvojování slovní zásoby, ale neprokázaly vliv paměťové techniky na rozvoj paměťových schopností a celkovou jazykovou komunikativní kompetenci. The Englishes - a survey of the world Englishes

Tahle práce analyzuje historii anglického jazyka v různých zemích, které jsou rozděleny podle Kachru modelu do tří částí. V úvodu je zmíněna obecná historie Anglického jazyka a jeho rozšíření skrze kolonie. Poté je práce strukturovaná do tří částí podle Kachru modelu. První část je nazvána „English as a native language“. V této části autor popisuje historii vzniku anglického jazyka v zemích jako Velká Británie, Spojené Státy Americké, Austrálie a Jižní Afrika. Druhá část je nazvána „English as a second official language“ a popisuje historii zemí, do kterých se angličtina dostala díky kolonizátorům. V těchto zemích jsou variace anglického jazyka v blízkém kontaktu s jazyky místních obyvatel a vyvíjí se s ohledem na území ve kterém se nachází. Součástí této kategorie jsou státy jako Indie, Singapore a Filipíny. Třetí část je nazvána „English as a foreign language“ a uvádí země, ve kterých je anglický jazyk uznáván jako mezinárodní komunikační prostředek nebo lingua franca. V této části autor uvádí stručnou historii anglického jazyka v zemích jako Brazílie a Čína. Finální část práce je závěr, ve kterém autor shrnuje získané vědomosti na dané téma a poznamenává že téma bude dále rozvinuto v bakalářské práci.
Use of media in English lessons in Czechia

The aim of this diploma thesis, entitled "Use of Media in English Lessons in the Czech Republic" is to evaluate the use of old, classic and new media in teaching English in Czech primary and secondary schools, as well as in private lessons conducted by English language tutors. In the first part, the work introduces old and new media in the Czech education system and individual types of new media, presents historical media used for teaching English in our countries, provides an overview of the media used at the present time and, above all, introduces websites and applications developed for teaching English. The results of recent studies dedicated to the investigated issue are also presented. The research objective of the practical part is the analysis of the answers of 50 educators obtained using a questionnaire survey, answers to questions regarding the use of old and new media in the teaching of the English language, namely in the time before the coronavirus pandemic, in the time of distance learning during the pandemic and now, as well as qualitative research of the most used new media tools in English lessons. THE BEGINNINGS OF ENGLISH LANGUAGE TEACHING AT CZECH SCHOOLS: PERIOD TEXTBOOKS AND TEACHING METHODS BEFORE 1945

This diploma thesis deals with English textbooks used at Czech higher secondary schools in the era till 1948. The diploma thesis is composed of two parts - the theoretical and the analytical part. The theoretical part consists in a description of the educational environment, including development of the Czech education systeém (in the monarchy) and czechoslovak educational systém, with regard to the development of grammar schools (gymnázium) and bussiness schools (obchodní akademie), which is a specific type of secondary school where the Eenglish language was taught. The practical part concerns the analysis of chosen English textbooks intended for individual high school years. The selection was made with regard to the education reforms, which changed the school system.

The main focus of this bachelor thesis is English interjections and their Czech equivalents. The bachelor thesis is divided into a theoretical and a practical part. In its theoretical part, the thesis deals with the definition of interjections and their comparison with other parts of speech, informs about their use in written and spoken expression, outlines the history of interjections, how interjections are formed, and further, divides interjections according to their classification. The work also describes English and Czech interjections and their characteristics, including methods of their translation. The practical part aims to present the Czech equivalents of English interjections and the frequency of their usage by the translator from English to Czech language.
