The Englishes - a survey of the world Englishes

This thesis analyzes history of English language in different countries, which are divided by Kachru’s model into three parts. In introduction General history of English spread through colonies is mentioned. Afterwards thesis is structured into three parts using Kachru’s model. First part is called “English as a native language.” In this part author describes history of English language in countries such as Great Britain, United States of America, Australia, and South Africa. Second part is called “English as a second official language,” and it describes history of countries to which English was brought by the colonizers. In this countries, varieties of English language are in close contact with native languages and are evolved depending on area. Parts of this category are countries such as India, Singapore, and Philippines. Third part is called “English as a foreign language” and lists countries in which English language is recognized as international means of communication or lingua franca. In this part author mentions brief history of English language in countries like Brazil and China. Last part of this thesis is conclusion in which author sums up the obtained knowledge of the topic and notes that this topic will be expanded in bachelors’ thesis
