The Suez Crisis: Impacts on Great Britain's Policy and Development of the International Relations
Korbel, Tomáš ; Soukup, Jaromír (advisor) ; Kofroň, Jan (referee)
The bachelor's thesis "The Suez Crisis: Impacts on Great Britain's Policy and Development of the International Relations " focuses on the pivotal moments and consequences of one of the largest crises during the Cold War, the Suez Crisis, which took place in 1956. The focal point of this event was the Israeli attack on Egypt which was supported by Great Britain and France. The United States and the USSR also diplomatically entered the conflict, which ended up being the deciding factor in the entire situation. This thesis dissects the factors which led to the outbreak of the Suez Crisis, the crisis itself as well as its eventual consequences. The goal of the work is also to identify who eventually won and lost because of this conflict. Furthermore, the paper also discusses what effects the Suez crisis eventually had on Great Britain and what developments it meant in terms of the relationships between the main actors that played a role in the crisis.
The framing of conflicts in the middle east of czech media
Lusková, Kristína ; Nečas, Vlastimil (advisor) ; Křeček, Jan (referee)
The thesis "Framing of the conflict in the Middle East in Czech Daily Newspapers" explores how Czech print media report on the conflict in the Middle East through the analysis of Mladá fronta Dnes and Právo news coverage of the Second Lebanon War (2006) and the Gaza war (2008- 2009). The theoretical part of the thesis deals with the role of the media in times of war and focuses mainly on the popular even though somewhat fragmented concept of media framing, which became the basis for the analysis of the above mentioned newspapers. The research draws on the extensive literature on media framing as well as foreign research on framing of the Arab- Israeli conflict, combining quantitative and qualitative analytical tools. The aim of the quantitative part of the analysis was to obtain hitherto missing data about the framing of the conflict in the Middle East by Czech media that could be compared to similar data that are already available for foreign media. Quantitative analysis also focused on news sources and topics used while referring about the Middle East conflict. The purpose of the qualitative analysis was to gain a deeper insight into the problem and generate a list of specific frames used to interpret the conflict in the Middle East by Czech print media.

Reasons for U.S. veto in the United Nations Security Council on behalf of Israel, 1972-1997
Hlaváčová, Lenka ; Přikryl, Pavel (advisor) ; Halás, Matúš (referee)
The aim of this thesis is to define the reasons of the U.S veto on behalf of Israel in the United Nations Security Council through analysis of the drafted resolutions. Author presents the resolutions vetoed by the U.S. on Israel in 1972-1997. The analysis focuses on four fields: who proposes the resoltutions, what is the subject of the resotutions, what language is used in the resultions, and what is the stance of the U.S. Representative to UN. Author states that the sponsors of the resolutions aren't relevant for the U.S. decision-making. Author rather supports the opinion that the language used and the intention to solve the Arab-Israeli Conflict by the UN SC are most probably the reasons for the U.S veto. The unbalancedness of the resoltuions (in the U.S. Understanding) is also one of the causes of the veto. U.S is refusing to condemn Israel in UN SC resolutions and it is trying to have the Arab-Israeli conflict solved by the parties involved and not by the third party who would impose the conditions of the settlement.
The Yom Kippur War and the mediation of the USA in this conflict
Kopečná, Pavlína ; Havlová, Radka (advisor) ; Matějka, Zdeněk (referee)
The object of this work is an analysis of the Arabic-Israeli conflict known as the Yom Kippur war and the mediative involement of the USA in this conflict. The name of the war is based on the Yom Kippur festival which was held just on that day when the surprising attack against Israel started. From the theoretical point of view the work will explain the terms of mediation and war in connection to a settlement of conflict. Using this theoretical stem I will try to analyse the war mentioned above and the mediation role of the USA. The main question I want to answer is whether the USA took this part in the Yom Kippur war just because of the oil embargo imposed on all allies of Israel by the Arabic member states of the OPEC organization in 1973 or not. The result of the analysis will be presented in the conclusion of this work.
