The end of World War II in Prachatice District
Matys, Václav ; Koura, Petr (advisor) ; Parkan, František (referee)
The bachelor's thesis entitled The End of the Second World War in Prachatice Region attempts to use archival sources and other available literature to process the last months of the end of the Second World War in this South Bohemian town. Although it is a topic of the recent past, there are not many sources of knowledge in the case of Prachatice. The introductory part includes a brief description of Prachatice and its history, followed by the development from 1938 to the end of 1944. In other parts, he deals with the events of the first four months of 1945, when the Revolutionary National Committee was formed, refugee transports passed through Prachatice, the railway station was attacked by American pilots, and the German city leadership decided whether the city would defend itself against the incoming American army. The key part is the events in May 1945, when the city was liberated. Also mentioned is task 3. U.S. Army, which liberated Prachatice. The final chapters are devoted to the post-war operation of the American army in this region and the post-war removal of the Germans from Prachatick. The main source was SOkA in Prachatice, which provided the most important sources for writing the thesis. The information was supplemented from other, either pre-revolutionary or contemporary literature. By...
The Journal Pravo lidu 1945-1948:Hopes,Aims and Tattered Ideals
Plívová, Viktorie ; Köpplová, Barbara (advisor) ; Cebe, Jan (referee)
The daily Právo lidu (Peoples' Rights), a paper of the Czechoslovak Social Democratic Party (ČSSD), started to be published 12 of May 1945, immediately after a forced break during the Second World War. However, its renewed edition did not last much longer than mere three years. After the Social Democratic Party merged with the Communist Party the newspaper was closed, or more precisely "diverted" under the auspices of Rudé právo (Red right), the central organ of the Communist Party. My aim in writing this thesis is a study of this period as such, its presentation on the pages of Právo lidu, or a presentation of some major historical events on the pages of the diary and the form of the paper itself. The work is therefore divided into two main parts. The first is a theoretical introduction describing pivotal moments in the development of post-war Czechoslovakia, where I am focusing on the description of the aspects that shaped the period, formed the internal political situation and directed the former Czechoslovakia into the Soviet Union's sphere of influence. The second part of the thesis is devoted to the very analysis of the diary in the years 1945 - 1948, its form, its way of distributing the information and describing certain political moments, as well as the anchorage of the daily in party structures. A...
First steps towards February 1948. The Moscow negotiations of the Czechoslovak exile in March 1945
Čuchna, Matěj ; Václavů, Lubor (advisor) ; Míšková, Alena (referee)
This thesis concentrates on the subject of the Moscow negotiations in March 1939 and preceeding and following events. The Moscow negotiations are considered to be the starting point of the Communist seizure of power in Czechoslovakia, leading to their moment of final triumph in February 1948. Near the very end of the Second World War, members of the Czechoslovak exile government, together with president Edvard Beneš, traveled to Moscow in order to discuss several political, economical and military issues with the Soviets. The issue of highest importance, however, were talks between the democratic Czechoslovak representatives from London and Czechoslovak Communists who have taken refuge in Moscow aftet the beginning of the war. It is not an exaggeration to say that everything was at stake. Literally, these talks were to define the long-term future of Czechoslovakia and, indeed, sadly, they had. While the democrats, arrived unprecedently unprepaired, the Communists had already elaborated a complete government program (later passed, with only minor changes, as the Košice Government Program), unsurprisingly very leftist and pro-Soviet. In military terms, the Communists gained strategic initiative and forced the democrats into a passive role with a very little potential for making any significant changes to the...
Musical Life in Česká Lípa Region After 1945
Bendová, Eliška ; Valášek, Marek (advisor) ; Stříteská, Leona (referee)
Česká Lípa is a district seat located in the Liberec region. It had served as an important traffic junction since the Middle Ages because of its situation near the German and Polish borders. Thus, cultural customs and traditions of neighbouring countries and especially of the German majority had played a significant role in cultural events in the town and its surroundings. After both the World War I and the World War II, old residents and also new incomers endeavoured to re-establish or build a new background for the town's social life. Despite the fact that the majority of the post-war period was affected by the communist regime, the citizens set up clubs, organized competitions or festivals and by doing so, in many cases, they unknowingly built traditions that have been preserved till present days and are living inspiration for new generations of Česká Lípa inhabitants. Both the work of our ancestors and their legacy is extremely valuable cultural heritage. Due to the limited range of the diploma thesis and the author's specialization, this thesis focuses particularly on musical institutes and choirs in the region Česká Lípa. Unfortunately, the extant materials do not cover all musical activities, ensembles, personalities and events related to them since the World War II. It is worth mentioning...

Mrštinová, Andrea ; Emler, David (advisor) ; Šmidrkal, Václav (referee)
The goal of my bachelor thesis "Expulsion of German residents from Poprad after 1944 with the emphasis on exemptions from the expulsion of German residents" is is to provide a view of the circumstances of the displacement of the German population from Poprad and thus to understand the regional history of Poprad in Slovakia. The bachelor thesis is divided into four parts. In the first part I present the geographical and content definition of the theme, like the background in which the German residents lived until 1945. In the second part, I focus on securing the German population in the camps in Poprad, while the subchapter is devoted to the removal of Germans from Poprad itself. In the third part, with using archival documents and literature, I divide German residents into categories of who have been an exempt from expulsion for various reasons, and I describe these reasons. In the fourth part, following the third chapter, I create a typology and briefly summarize the research.
