Honour and virtue in signo temporis. On examples of female figures in G. E. Lessings's, F. Hebbel's and A. Schnitzler's works.
Poláčková, Zuzana ; Zbytovský, Štěpán (advisor) ; Weinberg, Manfred (referee)
The subject of this thesis was virtue and honour in signo temporis. It means that I've tried to focus on the concept of virtue and honour in a certain time period. I have chosen three different literary periods and three works as their representatives. It was the bourgeois tragedy "Emilia Galotti" by Gotthold Ephraim Lessing, as the representative of the Enlightenment. For the first half of the 19th century I've chosen also a bourgeois tragedy "Maria Magdalena" by Friedrich Hebbel. And as the third example I analysed the novella "Fräulein Else" by Arthur Schnitzler. All of the three heroines are daugthers, who are strongly influenced by this fact. All of them find a tragic end. Two of them commit suicide and one persuades her own father to kill her. The fathers are also an important part of the plot, because their largely contribute to death of their daughters. Emilia in "Emilia Galotti" is stabbed by her own father, after she persuades him to kill her, because she is afraid of losing her virtue, which is at that times related with religion and identified with chastity. In the first half of the 19th century the religious aspect was still a part of the concept of virtue and honour. But the honour was now perceived more in the way of reputation. Klara in "Maria Magdalena", who lost her virtue by...
Textual interpretation of the Song of Roland
Kolářová, Monika ; Jančík, Jiří (advisor) ; Kalfiřtová, Eva (referee)
This MA thesis deals with the text analysis of the Song of Roland. The text analysis focuses in detail on the formal, content, narrative and symbolic aspects of the Song of Roland. All those features are in the context of the literary and historical frame. The Song of Roland is one of the oldest literary pieces of French literature. It is the most famous heroic song belonging to the "Chanson de geste" and it was created in the 11th century. The main characters of the heroic poem are Charles the great, his nephew Roland, loyal friend Olivier, traitor Galeon and pagan king Marsil. The Song of Roland explores not only the family and friend relations, but the important topics are also betrayal and desire for fortune and glory. The Song deals with the matter of faith being asserted in the way which is typical for the middle ages. The story, which takes part in Spain, where the French have been besieging the pagan fort of Zaragoza for seven years, is very interesting from the historical aspects, but were more interested in the narrative - textual aspects, in which we tried to explore the relationships between the narrators. We focused on individual speeches, who speaks to whom and in which way. We asked ourselves three questions, which we have gradually answered. For the need of an analysis of individual speech...
Good concept at classical greek philosophy and literature
Fleischerová, Andrea ; Blažková, Miloslava (advisor) ; Hauser, Michael (referee)
The matter of the Good in classical Greek philosophy and literature is so important and extensive that it can hardly be covered in one document. Therefore the aim of the first part of the thesis is to express both fundamental context and critical attitude towards the concept of the Good in the philosophy of Socrates, Plato and Aristotle. The second part provides a coherent perspective on the development of archaic literature in terms of forming the idea of gods, virtues, good and evil in classical Greek epic and tragedy. Theoretical basis of the thesis relies on the studies of important philosophers, literature historians, religionists and mythologists, whose views are connected systematically or outlined comparatively in corresponding chapters. Both main parts of the thesis are divided into chapters which follow in logical sequence. The thesis is theoretical and corresponds to the assigned topic.
MRI contrast agents based on saturation transfer
Krchová, Tereza ; Kotek, Jan (advisor) ; Štěpnička, Petr (referee)
Title: MRI Contrast Agents Based on Saturation Transfer Author: Bc. Tereza Krchová Department: Department of Inorganic Chemistry, Faculty of Science, Charles University in Prague Supervisor: doc. RNDr. Jan Kotek, Ph.D. Supervisor's email: modrej@natur.cuni.cz Abstract: The aim of this thesis was to synthesize macrocyclic ligands (based on the DO3A and DO2A framework) with exchangeable protons on the aminic coordinating groups that could be (after the complexation with suitable paramagnetic metal ions) potential contrast agents based on saturation transfer, so called CEST contrast agents (Chemical Exchange Saturation Transfer). Two ligands H3L1 and H2L2 with one and two aminoethyl groups have been synthesized. The structurally similar ligands H3L1 Me and H3L1 2Me with one exchangeable proton and without it have been also prepared. The protonation constants of the ligands H3L1 and H2L2 have been determined by pH 1 H NMR and potentiometric titrations. The stability constants of metal ion complexes with H3L1 and H2L2 have been also determined by potentiometry. The CEST effect of Eu3+ and Yb3+ complexes with H3L1 , H3L1 Me and H3L1 2Me in solution have been studied. The residence lifetime of the inner-sphere water molecule has been determined for Gd-L1 complex. Keywords: CEST, MRI, aminoethyl, DO3A, DO2A, 17 O...
Honour, Insult, Slander, Libel and Investigative Journalism
Šatánková, Radana ; Matějek, Jaromír (advisor) ; Štica, Petr (referee)
This interdisciplinary thesis deals with the area of investigative journalism and ethics. In the context of our time it offers a look at what kind of information a citizen has the right to obtain and what kind of the published information violates the moral rights of the individual. The work depicts the professional and ethical requirements placed on workers in the media to indicate the boundaries between "investigative journalism" and the pursuit of sensation. I draw upon the core material of the Syndicate of Journalists of the Czech Republic, the ethical codes of our public and private media and the books of experts in the field of media studies and ethics.
Are scouts really more honest?
Sedlická, Monika ; Zajíček, Miroslav (advisor) ; Tříska, Dušan (referee)
Using two experiments, where children either rolled dice or solved a matrix task, we examined whether scouts are more honest than non-scouts. In the first experiment, participants completed a matrix task. The papers were then shredded, and participants self-reported the number they had correctly solved. After analysing the results, we found that 10.81 % of scouts and 13.04 % of non-scouts lied. This difference, between the honesty of scouts and non-scouts, was not statistically significant. There was no perceived effect from being scout on the individual's honesty, as well as from taking the scout promise, or years of experience in a scout organization on the scout's honesty. In the second experiment, participants rolled the dice privately. According to value rolled, participants could either take (1, 2, 3), or leave (4, 5, 6), a Kinder chocolate reward. Statistically, participants would be expected to take the reward 50 % of the time. This was the case for the scouts group, the results did not differ statistically from 50:50, but not for the non-scouts. However, the difference between scouts and non-scouts was not statistically significant, indicating that there is no significant difference in honesty between scouts and non-scouts. Thus, our hypothesis that scouts are more honest than non-scouts was not supported.
Honour Disputes in the Seventeenth and Eighteenth Centuries
HONNEROVÁ, Jana
The theme of the presented bachelor thesis are disputes concerning honour in the years 1650-1750 on the Třeboň estate. This thesis aims at analysing honour disputes among inhabitants of townlets and villages on the Třeboň estate in the time in question on the basis of criminal law sources, suits of participants of the honour disputes, correspondence between the mayor and town council and top trustee of the estate. Actual participants of the honour disputes and the possibilities of the defence of their own honour will be in the centre of attention. Neither the characteristic surroundings in which the honour disputes took place nor the sort of defamations will be omitted. A typology of the defamations will be formed from the records of verbal offences. A particular honour dispute of an orphan named Sofie Renčová from Lomnice nad Lužnicí will be studied as well from the historical-anthropological perspective.
Between shame and honor. Swear-words of the 16th century in Vodňany
KOŠTOVÁ, Jindřiška
My diploma thesis deals with legal disputes that were lead because of honor or violation in town society in Vodňany. The theoretical part is focused on a historical and historical-legal research in native and foreign area in this topic. A product of this interest is very various sphere, in that I try to access and use gained results within the frame of history of the society, culture, development of law and municipality. The second part of my diploma thesis works with the perception of honor on the basis of different resources {--} these are municipal law-books, literal texts and first of all recourses of criminally-law work of municipal court in Vodňany. One of the chapter is also focused on classification of swear-words that were found in criminally-law work of municipal court. Duels in Bohemia in Early Modern Period
ŠÁRO, Ondřej
The thesis focuses on the problems of Early Modern Period duels concentrating on aristocratic milieu in Bohemia. The thesis is divided into three chapters. Chapter 1 outlines the problems based on up to now findings especially foreign historical science. A necessary part is the evaluation of the existing literature on up-to-date subject, brief introduction of the methodological approach and an outline of the possible thematic areas. In association with the thematic areas, it is possible to pay attention to the problems of duels. In this Chapter is also a detailed introduction to the chosen methodological solution {--} historical-anthropological draft of honour in the Early Modern Period. The Early Modern Period is based on many categories as e.g. inward and outward honour, honour of a male and a female or individual and collective honour. Chapter 2 puts the Early Modern Period in a spatiotemporal context and tries to introduce not only the predecessor in the way of medieval court duels, aristocratic hate perhaps even knightly tournaments but also his successors in the way of strictly ritualistic duels of the long 19th century. A special attention is paid to an analysis of duel books of references of the 19th century, which is supposed to serve as a solution for the third chapter. Chapter 3 is a personal analysis of the Early Modern Period considering all possible aspects which are possible to be discovered in the context. Attention is paid to all possible reasons of the beginning of the Early Modern Period duels, direct and indirect participants, circumstances which accompanied the Early Modern Period as well as potential results for all parties concerned. The Early Modern duel should be roughly outlined as an original development in the history of duels in terms of untold references in the source of personal nature and personal research. The same emphasis is put in the involvement of a duel as a indivisible part of the intellectual world of the Early Modern period of a human being with a special consideration to the milieu of the noble people. The aim of the thesis is to prove the peculiarity of the Early Modern Period duel and to refer to the characteristic place in the inward world of the then noble rank as well as other ranks of the society.
