Franc, Aleš ; Pargač, Jan (advisor) ; Šalanda, Bohuslav (referee) ; Uherek, Zdeněk (referee)
in English The dissertation thesis deals with foreign students in the Czech republic, specifically immigrant students coming from all over the world - from Belarus, Russia and Ukraine and then from China, Japan, Korea and Vietnam. The basic objective of this work is not a real attempt to display the everyday reality of certain groups of migrant-students of Czech language in the Czech Republic in such a way that it only focuses on the problems and barriers they encounter in their studies in the Czech language. It also deals with their adaptation and integration into mainstream Czech society. At the same time, however, we realize that this work is only a partial contribution to the knowledge of migrant-students' life in the Czech environment between 1998 and 2011. This work is based on relevant literature and the research is based on interviews with students and teaching observations. The choice of qualitative methods was intentional to serve our matter the best, since there has been a lack of research in this particular area in recent times. This focus on qualitative techniques is also dependent on the characteristics of the sample group, especially in the linguistic and sociocultural realm. The research was carried out at the Institute of Language and Training of the Charles University in Prague...

Mudruňková, Kateřina ; Uherek, Zdeněk (advisor) ; Czumalo, Vladimír (referee)
The aim of this work is to analyse the image of current folklore and folklorisme in the Czech Republic through the eyes of folklore ensemble members. It is divided into multiple parts, each of them focusing on different aspects. The first part deals with traditional folklore, its characteristics and functions, and then focuses on other term folklorism, including their comparison, as those two phenomena depend on each other. This comparison is based on the different environments where folklore and folklorism appear, their dissimilar functions and the amount of stylization. Folklorism is furthermore also put into context with mass culture and mass communication. The subsequent part is dedicated to analysis of public attitudes towards folklore in various historical periods as well as to previous research findings in the Czech Republic in reference to current activities of the government and of international institutions focusing on preservation of this part of cultural heritage. A considerable amount of attention is paid to members of folklore groups that work with traditional sources and participate on preservation and evolution of folklore. Those activities are not only pursued for leisure, but serve commercial interests as well. A considerable amount of attention is paid to analysis of folklore...

Immigration and Integration Policy of France - at the Supranational, National and Local Level
Seidlová, Markéta ; Drbohlav, Dušan (advisor) ; Uherek, Zdeněk (referee) ; Rozumek, Martin (referee)
The thesis analyzes immigration and integration policy of France at the three different levels (supranational, national and local), while the choice of France was inspired by the fact that this country has among the European ones the longest tradition of receiving immigrants. The work is based on theoretical and conceptual approaches to international migration as well as on immigration and integration policies. In case of theoretical and conceptual approaches, it was mostly inspired by the concept of Heckmann' four dimensions of the process of social integration (Heckmann and Schnapper, 2003; Bosswick and Heckmann, 2006), by the Entzinger' and Biezeveld' (2003) assessment of integration as the resulting state and especially by Alexander's (2007) classification of policies implemented by local authorities, which allows as one of rare concepts to compare policy-making at the national and local level. From the methodological point of view, two regions which best suited the preliminary requirements on different share of immigrants in population on each territory and the difference between "city in rural area - metropolis" were chosen: Paris (or more precisely its 14 districts) and seven cities in the region of Basse-Normandie (Caen, Hérouville-Saint-Clair, Cherbourg-Octeville, Flers, Alençon, Argentan...

Muhič Vobořilová, Jana ; Vrhel, František (advisor) ; Komárek, Stanislav (referee) ; Uherek, Zdeněk (referee)
MONGOLIAN NOMADS: PROHIBITIONS AND NATURAL CULTS Taboo Phenomena and Their Language Expressions This dissertation has been created on the interface of the three disciplines: ethnology, linguistic and Mongolian studies. It studies tabooed areas of life of Mongolian shepherds, related mainly to worshiping of the natural cults and to some significant cognitive models applied across the culture. The core of this work is the analysis of data collected repeatedly during field researches based on recording the language expressions of speakers and on a participative observing of the author. Prohibitions (taboos) which play role in the everyday life of the shepherds in the Mongolian steppe emanate primarily from the relation of humans with the nature which surrounds them. The aim of the work is to shed light on the question how the systematic nature of prohibitions (ceeriin yos) is anchored in the conceptual framework. In this the context of the Mongolian shepherd culture as a whole has been emphasised. Cognitive-linguistic approach represents a significant component of methodology, a systematic analysis of expressions which are understood as metaphors. Descriptions of particular events, recorded in the field research diary, enable an understanding of some linkages of conceptual structures and also depicting of the...

Muslims in the Czech Republic: study of the integration process of the Arab minority in Czech environment
Vopelková, Veronika ; Uherek, Zdeněk (advisor) ; Zoufalá, Marcela (referee)
The aim of this work is to acquaint and understand the life of Arab Muslims in the Czech Republic. It also examines the rate of integration of Arab Muslims in various areas of life. For this purpose, a qualitative research was conducted in the form of 23 interviews with Arab Muslims, which concerned their reasons to stay in the Czech Republic, their socioeconomic situation, cultural determination, religious life and identity. In the concept of four dimensions of social integration, the author bases her information on the works of Wolfgang Bosswick and Friedrich Heckmann. First, basic terms necessary for understanding the issue are defined in the theoretical part. The second part represents the historical and legal context constituting conditions in the life of immigrants in the Czech Republic. The third part is fully devoted to qualitative synchronous research. Testimonies of Arabs are divided according to their planned length of stay in the Czech Republic and by individual dimensions of social integration, where the hypothesis is a direct proportionality between the intention to be in the Czech Republic for the rest of their lives and the level of integration into the Czech environment.
