Functional assessment of motor activities of patients after brain damage before and after intensive rehabilitation intervention (with the goal to obtain restoration of upper arm physiological functions)
Sládková, Petra ; Švestková, Olga (advisor) ; Jeřábek, Jaroslav (referee) ; Kozler, Petr (referee)
6 Abstract The rehabilitation of patients with brain damage is an interprofessional, complex, intensive, long-lasting and individually oriented process. One frequent consequence of brain damage is hemiparesis, which also causes a disorder of the upper extremity movement pattern. The movement ability of the upper extremity is essential for an individual's self-sufficiency, the performance of common daily activities, and thus for an independent life in a family setting. Special therapeutic rehabilitation approaches should involve the training of new activities, including the motor learning mechanism that activates brain plasticity. A functional reorganization of the motor cortex occurs along with the activation of reserve neurons and the replacement of damaged synapses. One of the aims of this work was to demonstrate, using objective function methods, the possibility of influencing the movement patterns of a paretic upper extremity by means of intensive interprofessional rehabilitation even several years after the brain damage. The second aim was to demonstrate that the monitoring of motor functions in patients after brain damage leads to improved motivation, thereby improving motor functions. A study was conducted among 55 selected patients after brain damage with central hemiparesis who participated in the...

Stiborová, Anna ; Svěcená, Kateřina (advisor) ; Sládková, Petra (referee)
The bachelor thesis studies the role of occupational therapist on department of rehabilitation. This is a comparison between a Belgian hospital UZ Gent and two Czech hospitals: General University Hospital (VFN) and University Hospital Motol in Prague. Qualitative research was applied in this thesis. Gathering information was carried out since October 2012 till June 2013 using following sources: literature, internet sources, semi- structured interviews with four occupational therapist in three different hospitals on four departments. The result of processing the information was the comparison of the role of occupational therapist on the inpatient rehabilitation department. This comparison provides an overview of possibilities of occupational therapy intervention in hospitals. The environment, health care and rehabilitation system of Belgium and Czech Republic, occupational therapy tests and assessments and occupational therapy in inpatient care itself are described in theoretical part. Methodology research and research results are included in practical part. Key words: Comparison, role of an occupational therapist, occupational therapy, inpatient rehabiltation department, hospital, UZ Gent, General University Hospital (VFN), University Hospital Motol (FN Motol), Gent, Prague, Belgium, Czech republic
Using means of physical therapy to influence spasticity from the physiotherapist 's point of view
Bouzková, Gabriela Natálie ; Sládková, Petra (advisor) ; Matolínová, Vendula (referee)
The theme of the bachelor thesis is using means of physical therapy to influence spasticity from the physiotherapeutist's point of view. Theoretical part describes upper motor neuron syndrome and spasticity as one of its symptoms. Further it states methods of evaluation and options of influence of spasticity including latest research methods. Separate chapter is dedicated to the physical therapy, its impact on human organism and means used to treat spasticity. In the practical part the influence of cryotherapy on spasticity of upper limb of two patients after brain injury is examined. Efficiency is measured by Tardieu scale and goniometry. Main contribution of the thesis lies in gathering and analyzing of present findings, mainly on the field of physical therapy. The practical part then confirms positive effect of cryotherapy but recommends further research. Key words: spasticity, upper motor neuron syndrome, brain injury, physical therapy, cryotherapy

The aim of this thesis is to approach the issue of cancer patients and to present occupational therapy intervention in oncology. The theoretical part of the thesis is an overview of the most important concepts from the field of oncology. It outlines different types of treatments in oncology, including their side effects. There are also the most frequent cancer diagnoses in the Czech Republic and abroad. Furthermore, the work describes the general possibilities of rehabilitation for people with cancer. Next part is focused directly at the occupational therapy intervention in oncology. The practical part offers informational material about the possibilities of occupational therapy in oncology. It is primarily intended for laymen, but as a primary source of information on occupational therapy may well serve professionals working in oncology. Fatigue in patients with multiple sclerosis. Subtitle: The impact of negative thermotherapy on fatigue in patients with multiple sclerosis
Dědinová, Kristýna ; Novotná, Klára (advisor) ; Sládková, Petra (referee)
BACHELOR THESIS ABSTRACT Author: Kristýna Dědinová Supervisor: Mgr. Klára Novotná, Ph.D. Title: Fatigue in patients with multiple sclerosis: The impact of negative thermotherapy on fatigue in patients with multiple sclerosis Abstract: The bachelor thesis deals with the issue of fatigue in patients with multiple sclerosis (MS) and the effect of negative thermotherapy on this fatigue. The main aim of the study is to determine whether it is possible to alleviate fatigue in patients with MS using local negative thermotherapy (specifically using a special cooling cap). The secondary aim is to observe the impact of the outside temperature on fatigue and performance in functional tests in patients with MS. The thesis consists of a theoretical and a practical part. The theoretical part describes the multiple sclerosis, fatigue as common symptom of MS and possible effect of negative thermotherapy. The practical part is focused on the effect of local negative thermotherapy on fatigue and related symptoms in group of people with MS. The following functional tests were chosen to evaluate the effect of negative thermotherapy: Timed 25-Foot Walk (T25FW), Six-Minute Walk Test (6MWT), Nine-Hole Peg Test (9-HPT) and Symbol Digit Modalities Test (SDMT). Fatigue was assessed using two questionnares: Modified Fatigue Impact...
Impact of core muscle activation on postural function in people with multiple sclerosis
Birčáková, Martina ; Novotná, Klára (advisor) ; Sládková, Petra (referee)
This bachelor's thesis deals with the impact of activation of core muscles on postural function in patients with multiple sclerosis (MS). The aim is to assess the effect of Acral coactivational therapy (ACT) on core activation. Furthermore, we will be tracking the suitability of using this method with different types of MS. The thesis has a practical and a theoretical section. The theoretical section deals with the illness of MS, the term core muscles is defined here along with its effect on postural function and lastly, there is a chapter addressing the ACT method. The practical section involved six patients with three types of MS. The effect of the ACT method is described using two case studies. The results confirming the effect of the therapy are presented in the form of tables and graphs. The effect on postural function was assessed by aspect examination while sitting, standing and in movement strategy tests and also by walking tests (Timed 25 foot walk test, Timed up and go test and one leg stand). Core muslce activation was examined using tests by Professor Kolář. The discussion contains a comparison of our results with the results of foreign studies dealing with this issue. The results show an improvement in core muscle activation in all patients. The movement strategy tests which is part...
