Anorexia nervosa as a lifestyle? Pro-ana blogs and their authors in Czech onlice environment

This bachelor's thesis aims to approach the theme called pro-ana blogs and their authors in the Czech internet environment. These blogs and their authors promote anorexia nervosa as a lifestyle choice thanks to which it is easy to lose weight faster, although it is classified as a mental illness in medicine. Though qualitative analysis approximates the way the pro-ana blogs promote their ideas and what they have in common, the main reasons why girls are pro-ana blogging. Though certain eating habits, diets, menus and other elements of the content points out that pro-ana movement does not accept anorexia nervosa as an illnes, but a way of life.
Fashion blogs as a new trend in online journalism and their influence on readers

The main focus of the thesis is to describe the phenomenon of fashion blogs as a specific style of online writing and to analyse its influence on readers in relation to printed fashion magazines. The theoretic part describes an evolution of online media since the beginnings of Web, also in the context of generational change. It focuses on the Generation Y and its relation to online media. Furthermore, it describes internet media and internet journalism and their current tendencies. The next part defines blogs in general and contains a brief history of the phenomenon, their comparison with traditional journalistic values and finally on fashion blogs themselves. Fashion blogs are perceived as a part of modern visual culture, which is closely connected to the evolution of fashion blogs, and as a sign of societal trends of narcissism and individualism. The thesis compares the influence and the meaning of fashion blogs in comparison with printed fashion magazines. The analytical part uses a quantitative research and analyses the readers' view on both fashion blogs and the printed fashion magazines. Analysis of the media image of Milos Zeman in the ČTK news for the first year in presidency

This thesis titled Analysis of Media Image of Milos Zeman as Portrayed by CTK during the First Year of Presidency focuses on news releases made by Czech News Agency CTK that within the time frame of 8. 3. 2013 - 8. 3. 2014 inform about the President of the Czech Republic Milos Zeman. The goal of this thesis was to aquire a complex media impression of President as presented by CTK's news production. Primarily this thesis inquires into the total number of news releases within particular time periods, their topics and tonality. Secondarily this thesis observes the trends of these phenomenons within a one-year time horizon and the connection and coherence among the aforementioned phenomenons. The basis of this thesis is theoretical context that deals with news releases and pursues media construction of reality in the news. For this research there was used quantitative content analysis with qualitative overlap in form of emotional impression of news releases. As a data resource there was used an aggregate of texts from CTK's infobank. Central Europe after Fukushima:the media image of nuclear energetics in the Czech republic,Germany,Austria and Slovakia after Fukušima disaster

The thesis deals with the image of nuclear energetics in four selected daily newspapers after Fukushima nuclear power plant accident in March 2011. The goal of the thesis is to compare how the public was informed about a nuclear disaster in Fukushima by leading daily newspapers in four selected countries, with focus on their attitude to this disaster, and how, if at all, this event influenced the direction of the countries in terms of energy resources. The Czech Republic, Germany, Austria and Slovakia were selected as representative countries. Each of these countries is represented by a daily newspaper, such as Mladá fronta Dnes, Süddeutsche Zeitung, Der Standard and SME. The theoretical part of the thesis provides the explanation of basic concepts of media communication and news characteristics. The attention is also given to the issue of nuclear energetics. Gender analysis of the of female heroines in computer games

This work focuses on a gender analysis of female characters in video games, specifically the action genre of computer games in which players play from the perspective of a third party (ie see a playable character on canvas). Pays attention to very specific situations in which the female figure is markedly ambivalent status - show clearly feminine characteristics, it moves but clearly masculine space and pay the archetypal clearly masculine activities. Working with so anlýzou konrkétních computer games and playable characters trying to determine whether computer games as a new medium for his portrayal of female characters contribute to gender stereotypes and whether, therefore, become another medium, that these stereotypes produces and reproduces that deconstructs these stereotypes and changing, or whether it even creates new stereotypes. The analysis is the analysis itself as a representation of female characters in visual, narrative or folder of computer games and interactive component analysis itself - that is playing. Qualitative research of moral decision making in computer game Walking Dead

The focus of this thesis is research of interaction which takes place between players and computer games. Specifically on ethical and moral aspects of such interaction in which the players are required to make moral decisions that in any way affect the progression of the story, shaping of the virtual world, or have any other effect on the in-game narration. The goal of this text is to describe context in which such moral decisions are made and factors that influence them. The theoretical part of this thesis has the form of a summary of relevant game studies topics, which influence the moral decision making issue. Research was conducted on a group of ten respondents, who played The Walking Dead game and who shared their experiences by answering questions concerning moral decision making. The gathered data was thereafter analysed using a grounded theory method, which allowed me to identify and contextualize the researched phenomena. The main output of this text is the grounded theory itself and the answers provided by its application in context with research questions.
PICTURE OF CIVIL RIGHTS MOVEMENT IN THE USA IN THE CZECH PRINTED MEDIA IN 1956

This bachelor's thesis is trying to explain the way of media reporting about the Civil Rights Movement in the United States of America. It is focused on two important boundary stones: the begining of the movement - bus Boycott in Montgomery in 1956 and its top - the March on Washington in 1963. Martin Luther King, leader of this movement, made there a "I have a dream" speech, which is an object of this Thesis too. These thesis are noticing the connection between the movemet and communism and ask the main question: has this fact influenced media reporting? Three representative newspapers was chosen for this purpose - Rudé právo, Mladá fronta and Lidová demokracie. This study is trying to describe the relation of the United States and Czechoslovakia and find some signs of viewiness or the publicity campain of the czechoslovak press. One full year is analyzed in both cases.
Gender in cyberspace: Critical discoursive analysis of Czech discussions and comments

This master thesis discusses the gender dynamics in cyberspace environment. The anonymous nature of this relatively new phenomena leads to several manifestations of hate speech. To be more precise, this work focuses on sexism and misogyny in the Internet environment. The theoretical part discusses the elementary theory about the nature of cyberspace and relationships between masculinities. The aim of the research part is to make critical discourse analysis which investigates reactions of debaters below articles about misogynist statements by two Czech footballers towards female referee Lucia Ratajová.
Press that serves the public? Survey of journals published by Prague's municipalities

This master thesis deals with the phenomenon of journals published by local municipalities, defined in a recent amendment to the Press Act in the legal order of the Czech Republic as "journals of territorial administrative units". According to the press law the purpose of these journals is to deliver information about the self- governing unit while providing adequate space for presenting opinions and views of all ideological spectrum of the local council. These journals were recently criticized for being abused by the ruling political representation and being misused as a form of political PR rather than an independent news platform. My research is focused on their gradual professionalization that was recently encouraged by the changes in the Czech law. The research is based on a survey of editors of these journals. In the survey I investigated the background of the content production of these journals, various aspects of their organization, details about staff editors and their reflection on the topic, as well as control mechanisms that are set to ensure the statutory requirements of objectivity and impartiality. In addition to the survey, I also present a brief case study of the Hobulet magazine, published in the Prague 7 district, which is considered to be a progressive example of the genre. The...
