Influence of psychosocial factors on emotional status, rehabilitation and quality of life of patients after myocardial infarction
Pilipčincová, Alexandra ; Hrachovinová, Tamara (advisor) ; Honzák, Radkin (referee) ; Kebza, Vladimír (referee)
Objective: To examine the impact of dispositional optimism/pessimism, social support and coping strategies on emotional distress (symptoms of depression and anxiety) of patients with myocardial infarction (MI) during hospitalization and one year after the discharge. To identify predictors of recovery and factors affecting quality of life of these patients. Methods: The sample consisted of 102 patients (25 women, 77 men) with diagnosis of acute MI, 2 - 4 days after MI. The age of men patients was lower than 65 and of women lower than 75. During the follow-up, one year after the discharge, we interviewed 63 patients (45 men, 18 women). The group used for comparison consisted of 1% random sample of Czech population from Benešov district, matched with regard to age and sex, selected during epidemiological survey PostMONIKA. Results: Patients with acute MI were significantly more depressed than the subjects from comparison group (ll% vs. 3% p<0.05). One year after MI, the prevalence of depression symptoms among patients was the same as in the comparison sample. Patients with acute MI reported anxiety symptoms only rarely and denial as a coping strategy was associated with diminished occurrence of anxiety symptoms. An association between emotional coping, distraction cop1ng, lack of social support, dispositional...
Suicidal behaviour and its develompent in Czech population (the epidemiology of suicidal behaviour)
Bláha, Pavel ; Niederlová, Markéta (referee) ; Kebza, Vladimír (advisor)
The thesis "Suicidal Behaviour and its Development in Czech Population (The Epidemiology of Suicidal Behaviour)" deals with psychological aspects of suicide and suicidal behaviour. The theoretical part summarises information about suicides, defines basic terms, philosophical and psychological background and epidemiology of suicidal behaviour. This part not only further describes forms, ways, motivation and process of suicidal behaviour but it also features risk factors, diagnostics possibilities and therapeutic approaches to suicidal behaviour. The conclusion of the theoretical part tackles the theme of suicidal behaviour prevention. The empirical part of the thesis gives an account of the conducted research. The research aimed at revealing links between higher suicidal risk detected by FBS - Suicide Risk Evaluation Questionnaire and Rotter's I-E Scale, along with Freiburg Personality Inventory. The sample data comprised of 100 secondary school students in their final year of study in Prague and České Budějovice. The results of the research confirmed a link between higher suicidal risk and female sex, along with bad family relationships, Rotter's I-E Scale and some dimensions of Freiburg Personality Inventory.
Theories of consciousness
Brixí, Sylvie ; Šípek, Jiří (referee) ; Kebza, Vladimír (advisor)
This thesis deals with the theories of consciousness and attempts to critically evaluate contribution of each individual theory for further research and development of this phenomenon. Firstly, focus is on a general introduction including consciousness related definitions and terms as well as on abnormal states of consciousness. Next, consciousness is discussed from a historical perspective. The main body of this thesis is dedicated to the theories of consciousness, which are divided into several chapters according to the scientific field through which they are being scrutinized. This division leaves us with anthropogenic, physical, neurobiological, psychological, and philosophical theories. Each chapter introduces the theories of leading representatives of a given scientific field and attempts to critically evaluate them. Closing discussion offers a synthesis of existing knowledge in the consciousness-related problems and indicates further possible research (theoretical as well as practical) questions.
Fear of pain and coping strategies: construction of the DCB 3 inventory
Brožek, Tomáš ; Niederlová, Markéta (referee) ; Kebza, Vladimír (advisor)
New method for assessment of positive coping in chronic pain is presented. The coping with pain inventory (DCB 3) consists of three scales: Defiance (9 items, Cronbach's = 0, 84), Determination (5, 0,772) and Acceptance (5, 0,75). Relitability and validity was examined on the sample of 104 patients of the Military rehabilitation facility Slapy (45 M, 59F, mean age 55,25, SD 11,5), suffering from chronic pain. The validity criteria were inventories of the Pain center in the Teaching hospital in Motol. All scales were standardised.
Hypnosis in pain management
Červenka, Jan ; Kebza, Vladimír (referee) ; Šípek, Jiří (advisor)
This study has proved, based on 8 case studies of patients suffering from chronic pain, that hypnosis based on cricksonian techniques is a mcthod which can lead in some cased to a significant improvement in patienťs condition. This improvement can be dueto reduction of perceived pain as such or in decrease of suffering or fear and anxiety related to pain. This study indicatcs that if the pain has a concrete physiological source, it is impossible to completely remove it, nevertheless it is possible to influence the suffering or fear it brings. There also secms to be a specific personality setting that can lead to a failure in the use of hypnotherapy.

Galovičová, Anna ; Uhlář, Pavel (advisor) ; Kebza, Vladimír (referee)
The following study is an attempt to investigate the genesis of the traditional yoga and its evolution in our region. For this purpose we created the model of traditional structured yoga system based on the non-dualistic reality. The practical part of the study is based on the research of the application of the traditional yoga on development of an integrated sense of identity (self), which allows creating positive, longlasting and enduring social relationships needed for development of human relationship and growth. Its effects are visible on physical, mental, social and especially spiritual health. It helps to mobilize the will power, self-discipline, to remove the bad habbits, and risk factors, and it also helps to adapt healthy lifestyle. Psycho-social research of the human in multicultural environment, where yoga seminars take place, helps better understand ancient Vedic paradigma "one world - one society" and reveals how yoga contributes to self-confidence, helps to overcome the prejudices. Self-awareness and self-discipline play important role. It can be a way how to develop human resources and to solve burning problems of our modern multicultural society and health resort transformation . This practical part includes also effects of the yogic exercicing, called Hospital Yoga Model on the...
Egon Brunswik and contemporary psychology (from probabilistic functionalism to judgement under uncertainty)
Salih, Osman ; Kebza, Vladimír (referee) ; Bahbouh, Radvan (advisor)
This thesis is about the influence of the theory and thoughts of Egon Brunswik (1903- 1955) in contemporary psychology. The introduction of this work is important for a deliberation of his central ideas as they apply to probability in the history of man. By looking at this background, we can obtain a deeper understanding of the criticism of modern theories of judgment under uncertainty proposed by Kahneman and Tversky created by Brunswikian followers. The proposal of representative research design, the formation of the lens model, and the notion of ecological validity of cues and vicarious functioning are Brunswik's biggest contributions in psychology. With regard to the origin of this thesis, I was delighted to find information about the attempt to replicate Brunswik's experiments with perceptual constancy by a member of the Prague Psychology Department, Jaromir Kasparek, PhD, in the 1950's. Brunswik was a real inspiration for a number of contemporary psychological and other theories, from Hammond's theory of social judgment and the theory of cognitive continuum to Funder's innovative approach in personality judgment and the theory of probabilistic mental models and fast and frugal heuristics of G. Gigerenzer and the multiple cue learning theory.
