Media Discourse Analysis of rigt-wing weblog Altermedia.info
Bártová, Kateřina ; Jirků, Jan (advisor) ; Křeček, Jan (referee)
The thesis called Qualitative Analysis of Media Discourse of the Far-right Blog cz.altermedia.info deals with the discourse analysis of the Czech version of an international project Altermedia.info. Discourse analysis aims at differences between the discourse of the founding editor and the current one and analyses the neo-fascist nature of the blog. The theoretical framework of the analysis is based on the postmarxist theory of discourse introduced by Ernesto Laclau and Chantal Mouffe. The theoretical part of the thesis summarizes the findings of researchers who are engaged in discourse analysis (structuralism, poststructuralism, Michel Foucault, Louis Althusser, Norman Fairclough, Teun van Dijk). The thesis also examines how specific meaning is constructed within the nationalist discourse of Altermedia and to what extent a new team of authors contributed to the change of discourse. The analysis identifies the main nodal points, which are involved in the construction of discourse, and examines the antagonistic processes within the two different editors. Discursive analysis reveals particular inclination of the current discourse of Altermedia for the neo-Nazi ideology, and thus indicates the fundamental antagonism between the founding editors and current one.

Svobodová, Anežka ; Jirků, Jan (advisor) ; Osvaldová, Barbora (referee)
The era of media convergence brings new challenges for traditional media. Print magazines don't want to lose their readers, who are moving towards on-line media. The readership of print media is decreasing. Through internet, people gained access to information and therefore they push media to publish news as soon as possible. The emphasis on speed and effectivity is in conflict with presenting only information that have been doublechecked. It's the first magazine with this concept on Czech market. Every month it brings readers reportages from business, culture or society. Reportér magazine has also an on-line version. It includes all issues of the magazine that have ever been published, as well, as special stories that are only on-line. For this thesis, a research have been provided. Its goal was to find out whether are people interested in subscribing for digital archive of some print media and what is their attitude towards new media. The aim of this thesis is to discover how a top rated post in discussions of the three Czech online news sites - idnes.cz, novinky.cz and aktualne.cz looks like. Top rated comment was analyzed in terms of five criteria - whether related to the theme of the article, whether it contains vulgarisms, whether it occurs irony or humor, whether the comment expresses disagreement with the article and whether the user in his commentary expresses his own simplified conclusions, or his own solution to the problem. For the analysis and evaluation were used elements of quantitative and qualitative research and findings have been converted into graphic form. According to the results from all three servers, the ideal comment is the one that is related to the topic, does not contain vulgarisms and humor, agrees with the article and provides simplified conclusions or easy solutions. The results say a lot about the preferences of contributors to online discussions and may assist in the further study of their behavior, they can also inspire for more detailed research of phenomena throughout the discussion thread. In the context of the growing impact of the Internet and online media, analysis of the user preferences of online media can be not only beneficial for further research, but also for the media itself.
