Apolenář, Jaroslav ; Vykoukal, Jiří (advisor) ; Irmanová, Eva (referee)
The bachelor thesis Polish-Hungarian Friendship in the Contemporary Polish Press deals with the Polish-Hungarian friendship, the phenomenon of traditionally good mutual relations between the two nations, in selected Polish press periodicals (Gazeta Wyborcza, Polityka, Rzeczpospolita and Wprost). Firstly, the phenomenon of the Polish-Hungarian friendship and the relevant situation concerning the contemporary Polish press (especially the ideological and ownership factors) are introduced. Consequently, word frequency analyses and qualitative content analyses of the corpora comprising of articles concerning the Hungarian and Polish- Hungarian history and the peak of financial crisis in Hungary in 2008 are conducted; the individual periodicals are analysed, as well as the groups of titles (liberal and conservative) and all the periodicals as a whole. Lastly, a synthesis of the analyses' results is conducted and the research question, whether any signs of the Polish-Hungarian friendship can really be found in the Polish press and whether they are more significant in the conservative group of periodicals, is answered.
The Problem of the National Progress in the Political Conceptions of the Polish Elites at the Beginning of the 20th Century
Květina, Jan ; Doubek, Vratislav (advisor) ; Irmanová, Eva (referee) ; Kaleta, Petr (referee)
The principle aim of this paper is to analyse the perception of the national idea in the Polish area at the beginning of the 20th century in dependence on ideological discourse of the different political parties. In this respect we can identify two paradigms as the main competitors in the Polish case, namely the modern nationalism, which was represented by the National Democratic Party, and socialism, which was splitted due to the contradictory attitudes about the national question into two factions, the Polish Socialist Party and the Social Democracy of the Kingdom of Poland and Lithuania. As the initial concept of the national identity, which the modern conceptions were forced to face, is possible to consider the legacy of the so called "noble republicanism", that identified the Polish nationality with the loyalty and willingness to the collective aims. Within the context of the negative inspiration of the political concepts as a stable trend of the Polish thought both nationalist and socialist discourse attempted to refuse the tradition of the noble identity and also the political principles and cultural "organic work" of the positivists. However, the detailed comparison of national-democratic and socialist approach to the Polish question proved, that both mutually antagonistic conceptions did...

Balla, Petr ; Irmanová, Eva (advisor) ; Kubát, Michal (referee)
Thesis "National Radicalism in Hungary - Jobbik political party" deals with a political party in contemporary Hungary called Movement for better Hungary -Jobbik. The aim is to place the party into a theoretical frame (Sartori's concept of anti-system parties). Jobbik became important after the European parliament elections, when the party gained nearly 15% and 3 seats. In April 2010 Jobbik successfully entered the Hungarian parliament with nearly 17% and 47 seats. Although the party is often called neonazi or extremist the work proves that it belongs to populist radical right parties.
Hugary's minority policy after 1990. Self-government of the German national minority
Luprich, Jan ; Chmel, Rudolf (advisor) ; Irmanová, Eva (referee)
This diploma thesis, which is focused on Hungary's minority policy after 1990 and self-government of the German national minorty, is divided into four main parts. In the first part of the thesis (Chapters I-III) I discuss the theoretic background regarding the terms "minority" and "minority policy" and furthermore the demographic development in the territory of the Republic of Hungary. The changes within the population as a whole and the nationality structure have been reflected here since 1945. This period could be considered as a milestone in the future development ofthe German minority in Hungary. In the second part of the thesis (Chapter IV) I deal with specific aspects of the Hungarian minority policy covering the period 1900 - 1989. The reason for that is the effort to put the historical events, directly affecting the political conception for minority protection or persecution of a given minority, in relation with current situation. Following three periods are in focus: period after the Austro-Hungarian Compromise, Post-Trianon Hungary and period of communist dictature. Especially during the last phase, the constant assimilation process of "national" minorities has been rapidly accelerated. In the third part (Chapters V-VII) I show in detail the development of the Hungarian minority politics in the...

Karafiátová, Sylva ; Irmanová, Eva (advisor) ; Švec, Luboš (referee)
Diploma thesis Slovak Political Emigration on the Way to the Dissolution of Czechoslovakia: The Activity of the Christian Democratically Oriented Slovak Exiles deals with the political activity of the Slovaks living abroad, their relations to the common state of Slovaks and Czechs and their aspiration to influence this state as well as the coexistence of the above named nations. The thesis points out the autonomist tradition of the Slovak emigration (from the turn of the 19th and 20th century) and touches the main points of the Slovak life abroad and all the Slovak exile till the end of the World War II. It follows the main streams of the Slovak postwar political emigration, which were formed into three specific emigration waves in the 1945, 1948 and 1968 years. It focuses primarily on the development and the external and internal aspects of the Slovak exile after 1968. The main emphasis is given to the activities of the Christian democratically oriented Slovak exiles (mostly living in Europe, exiles of the year 1968 an later) approximately in 1989- 1993 and their program to establish the exile Slovak Christian democratic club (party), which turned out to take share in the formation of the homeland Christian democratic party and the transformation of the political and social life in Slovakia after November...
The tragedy and the sacrifice: Hungarian and Slovak historiography 15 years after the change
Gonczarow, Zora ; Nálevka, Vladimír (advisor) ; Rychlík, Jan (referee) ; Irmanová, Eva (referee)
Comparing of Slovak and Hungarian historiography 15 years after 1989 there are several conclusions to be made which mark both historiographies and can therefore suggest there are common characteristics of Central European historical writing. There is a significant difference between how the communist heritage was treated in both countries - in Hungary and in Slovakia, however the link between the historiography and actual politics is very strong. Some of the historians emerged as leading politicians in the new set-up and the historiography in terms of cultural practice became in some cases a significant political player. Generally, the historiography and history-related questions play an important role in everyday politics. Both historiographies bear strong signs of national discourse and either was significantly shaken in its positivist approach. In the case comparison several conclusions were made about the strategy each historiography employs to present the history of the country. The Hungarian as well as Slovak national corpus intends to show a history of an independent and proud nation which has worked hard to achieve its own state. The corpus is dedicated to the national story picturing the past and the tradition to build on, explaining the form of the state as it is (including the borders),...
