Electronically dissymmetric ferrocene bisphosphines
Horký, Filip ; Štěpnička, Petr (advisor) ; Horáček, Michal (referee) ; Šebesta, Radovan (referee)
This Thesis describes the synthesis, reactivity, coordination properties, and catalytic activity of novel electronically dissymmetric bisphosphines structurally related to 1,1'-bis(diphenylphosphino)ferrocene (dppf). First, a methylene spaced congener containing a primary phosphine group, which is stable in the air, Ph2PfcCH2PH2 (fc = ferrocene-1,1'-diyl), was prepared. While studying its reactivity, an unprecedented stable primary phosphine oxide, Ph2PfcCH2P(O)H2, was isolated. The primary phosphine, the corresponding phosphine oxide, dppf and the known bis-tertiary phosphine Ph2PfcCH2PPh2 were studied as ligands in Ru(II) complexes. The catalytic activity of the defined complexes was compared in two ruthenium-catalyzed reactions: cyclization of (Z)-3-methylpent-2-en-4-yn-1-ol into 2,3-dimethylfuran and isomerization of estragole to anethole. Second, the remarkable stability of the prepared primary phosphine oxide called for a detailed investigation of this poorly described class of compounds. As a result, stable primary phosphine chalcogenides lacking steric protection FcCH2P(Y)H2 (Fc = ferrocenyl; Y = O, S, Se) were isolated for the first time. These compounds were studied as ligands in reactions with hard and soft Lewis acids (Zn(II) and Ru(II)), and the reactivity of the P-H hydrogens was...
Gamblers'habitus: An Ethnographical Reconstruction of a radical Alternative in the Era of Really-existing Socialism
Horáček, Michal ; Abu Ghosh, Yasar (advisor) ; Alan, Josef (referee) ; Kolář, Pavel (referee)
The doctoral thesis hereby submitted is an ethnographic reconstruction of the world perpetuated in Czechoslovakia in the period of the so-called really-existing socialism by gamblers. Even though that world is now a thing of the past, the character of the referential reality itself has called for an ethnographic, and not an historical, perspective: gamblers leave no tangible traces. By the same token and at the same time, there is an all-too-real peril that one of very specific and robust worlds will disappear in the past for good without a record or description that might have contributed to our understading of the social conflict of the given era.The essay betrays doubts about the institution of "marginality", taking for granted that disparate historical objects are equivalent. It introduces the gamblers' world as one arising from specific organizational principles and governed by specific logic; the world of the weak who, facing the overpowering might of the regime, tried to become stronger and to defend their autonomy more fruitfully than they might have done elsewhere. One of the key features of the essay is its methodology: given the progress of ethnography from erstwhile arm-chair research to participant observation to the current studies using observing participation, this thesis goes even...
Peripheral development in the post-industrial period in the Czechia and Austria with the examples of Slavonice and Waidhofen an der Thaya
Horáček, Michal ; Marada, Miroslav (advisor) ; Bruckner, Lucie (referee)
The thesis is focused on the analysis of peripherals for the presence of post-industrial phenomena. We are mainly focusing on the outer periphery. The object is to reveal the main factors and barriers that affect peripheral development and help periphery overcome their positional disadvantage. Analysis of a survey conducted in the municipalities of Slavonice and Waidhofen an der Thaya indicated fundamental differences in relation to the post-modern values between these two geographically close locations. Structured interviews with community representatives bring out certain details on cooperation and the barriers to individual development. We can conclude from the results that the different social behaviour of peripherals caused by distinct historical and political development has not grown closer to the Austrian model even after 25 years of democracy in the Czechia. Key words: periphery, post-industrial period, development, cooperation

The Implementation of Transport Projects in the Context of Developing Axes in Czechia
Horáček, Michal ; Marada, Miroslav (advisor) ; Šourek, Vladimír (referee)
The bachelor thesis deals with the implementation of transport corridors in the context of the Czech Republic's development axes. A general definition of transport corridors is initially presented along with their supporting methodological and legislative documents. Next, the thesis is devoted to showing geography affects TEN-T sites in Europe and the Czech Republic, respectively. Main part discusses the strategic documents in the transport sector and transport policy coherence related to compliance with implementation plans. In conclusion, transport network's problems are indentified and an evaluation of the relationship between planning and reality is presented.
Gambling as a Black Hole of the Social Universe
Horáček, Michal ; Abu Ghosh, Yasar (advisor) ; Grygar, Jakub (referee)
This master's thesis aims both to present empirical criticism of the published case studies of gambling, in particular the Deep Play by Clifford Geertz, which is the most cited one, and to propose such a methodology which would enable us to derive more meaningful data from the ethnographic material on gambling. In this context it is also needed to question the conventional conceptual categories which are internally conflicting as appears both in common speech and in the works of the social science scholars such as Johan Huizing, Eugen Fink, Roger Caillois, Gerda Reith and Jackson Lears.
Self-presentation of photographic portfolio: training event
Horáček, Michal ; Smékalová, Lucie (advisor) ; Kateřina, Kateřina (referee)
Bachelor thesis titled "Self-presentation of photographic portfolio: training event" aims to create a specific project of training event for a particular group of students. It includes a proposal for an training event, which will be divided into four blocks of lectures, presentations, workshops and discussions. The main topic of training event is the art of a correct self-presentation. Specifically, the blocks will be aimed at enhancing the skills which are necessary for the successful presentation of own students portfolio. Because of that, it will discuss working with the programs Microsoft PowerPoint and Adobe Bridge, abilities of effective selecting photos and other media works, a correct performing in front of an audience and the principles of presentation and leave a good impression. It is designed for students of third and fourth grade of Applied photography and media at VOŠG and SPŠG high school in Prague 1. The project of training event is created in accordance with the theory of the formation of training events, which is summarized and discussed in the first part of the thesis.
