"Organickou součástí průmyslové revoluce byly převratné změny v dopravě. Jejich podstata spočívala ve vytvoření kvalitativně nového dopravního systému, který se technicky opíral o sílu parního stroje, tedy o hnací sílu, která neměla v minulosti obdoby, a ekonomicky spočíval na rychlé, spolehlivé a především masové přepravě nákladů a pracovní síly na víceméně libovolné vzdálenosti."1 Nový dopravní systém, to byla železnice, symbol průmyslové revoluce. Využívajíc objevů vědy a techniky a jimi podmíněného pokroku v průmyslové výrobě, stala se záhy sama jejich šiřitelkou a zpětně podněcovala prudký rozmach průmyslu, a to i v oblastech, kde to doposud nebylo možné. Železnice neznala hranice, cla a výsady, byla nositelkou nových myšlenek, názorů a kulturních proudů, železniční tratě "zkrátily čas a zmenšily prostor, ... urychlovaly, ať přímo či nepřímo, radikální proměny nejen ve výrobních silách, ale i v sociální struktuře každé společnosti."2

State, nobility and elite change. The comparison of noble ceremonies in Silesia and Bohemia 1806-1871

Práce zkoumá nobilitační praxi ve střední Evropě 19. století. Vychází z teoretických konceptů současné neo-tocquevilliánské státovědy a politologie, které definují stát jako autonomně jednajícího společenského aktéra, který svými praktikami a konfigurací vědomě, ale i nevědomě ovlivňuje strukturu vztahů s jinými společenskými aktéry i vztahy mezi těmito aktéry samotnými. Nobilitace jsou proto pojímány právě jako jeden z prostředků státního vlivu na vztahy mezi různými společenskými aktéry. Pomocí nobilitací, jako nejvyšší formy státního vyznamenání, které příjemcům zajišťovalo dědičné symbolické i materiální výhody, distribuoval stát ve společnosti veřejné uznání a symbolický kapitál a vědomě i nevědomě tak podporoval určité skupiny a vzorce chování, zatímco jiné nechával stranou. Základní otázky práce proto znějí: Jaké sociální a politické hranice rýsoval stát ve společnosti pomocí nobilitační praxe? Kterým skupinám a kulturním praktikám poskytoval stát pomocí nobilitací veřejné uznání, a které naopak při distribuci šlechtických titulů nezohledňoval? Jaké byly hlavní dynamizující endogenní a exogenní faktory, které určovaly vývoj nobilitační praxe? Jak a proč se měnily státem uznávané "katalogy šlechtických ctností"? Při zodpovídání těchto otázek se práce opírá o komparativní metodu, která umožňuje...

Ritualization of death and dying in the Revolution of 1848: the cult of the dead

non-traditional view of the subject of the revolutionary year of 1848. While a vast majority of the existing research has been focused on the course of the revolution, particular political camps and leaders of the contemporary movement, I have put emphasis on a phenomenon seemingly concealed and disregarded. My attention was aimed on the dead, the victims of the events of this hectic period. Death as such has indeed been a traditional interest of historians, nevertheless, reception and reflection thereof in a political or rather a revolutionary context is a fairly less regarded subject. Therefore, I have laid out an indeed concrete topíc in my thesis - ritualisation of death and dying during the revolution of 1848. A simple question is apparent: why study this subject of the dead and victims in the Czech context when no major fights occured here and thus the number of fatalities was not extreme? After reading my thesis the answer com es up as obviously as the question does: despite a relatively low body count of the Pentecost events in June 1848, a cult of the dead and victims of the revolution 1848 is present in the course of the few restless months. Předmětem předkládané práce jsou územní změny v obcích, jeden z neprávem poněkud opomíjených feno-ménů první republiky. Přitom se jednalo o jev v této době v českých zemích velice rozšířený, ba mohli bychom říci masový. I když počty realizovaných sloučení, rozloučení a změn obvodů obcí v prvním desetiletí existence samostatného československého státu jdou do stovek a dokonce se blíží až k magické tisícovce, nebyla jim do-sud věnována patřičná pozornost. Právě tato okolnost vedla k výběru tohoto tématu, které zároveň tvoří samo-statnou kapitolu našich správních dějin. Šlo o procesy společností ostře sledované, jež se tu více tu méně promít-ly do života téměř každého obyvatele obce, která takovou změnou prošla. Ale i tam, kde zůstalo pouze u žádosti, měl zahájený proces po nějaký čas značný vliv na život v obci a také na vzájemné vztahy se sousedním celkem či celky, jež měla požadovaná změna "zasáhnout". Už samotným podáním podnětu ke změně se mnohdy napros-to bezproblémové soužití lidí žijících vedle sebe v těsné blízkosti na relativně malém prostoru, ale nezřídka na katastrech dvou různých obcí, změnilo ze dne na den v rivalství, odpor, nevraživost až nenávist. Tyto negativní důsledky úspěšně i neúspěšně proběhnuvších kauz územních změn se často projevovaly ještě několik let poté. Na první pohled v sobě...

Czech grammar schools, their students and teachers, 1867-1918

This thesis examines the development, character and routine of an ordinary day of Czech middle schools. The first chapter outlines the changes in middle school education throughout the 'long' 19th Century. The summary of these changes begins at the end of the 18th Century, the time of the educational reforrns introduced by Maria Theresa and Joseph II, and is followed by a brief summary of the changes in the first half of the 19th Century. Detailed research has been done into the history of middle schools, from 1848 (from Bonitz-Exner Outline, a fundamental document which influenced changes in the educational system for many years) until the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. The main focus is on the period from 1867; this year was the catalyst for the major development of Czech middle schools. Briefly mentioned are the changes and restrictions caused by the First World War; there is also a section dedicated to middle school education for girls. The second chapter concentrates on specific areas of middle school education, such as: who studied, and on what terrns; programmes of study; the curriculum of individua! subjects. Eastern district 1960-1989. Citizens and the lowest link of the State security on the example of the Havlíčkův Brod district

The subject of this dissertation is the problem of activities of the State Security on a current district level which has remained up to now unnoticed. On one hand it dwells on the organization development of the apparatus of the political police outside big centres, on its persona! appointments and on the incorporation of the StB structure into the local system of the totalitarian power. On the other hand it analysis interests of the State Security, the develop-ment in the interpretation of enemy and of supposed or actual risks for the stability of the state power. The period between 1960 and 1989 was choosen for its stable form of the territorial zoning and as a period of declarative completion of the so-called socialist society. In such a framework it is possible to follow the influence that important landmarks had on the territorial structure of the State Security, as for instance the period around the Prague Spring 1968, or the rise of civic activities starting the end of 1970's, as well as the period of the fall of regime at the end of 1989. Jindřich Fügner and Richard Dotzauer. Two entrepreneurs in the beginning of capitalism era

Tématem mé diplomové práce JSou dvě osobnosti podnikatelského života v počátcích kapitalismu - Jindřich Fiigner a Richard Dotzauer, přičemž si kladu za cíl představit členy společenské skupiny, která byla důležitou v procesu společenské modernizace a která se v průběhu devatenáctého století začala projevovat v českých zemích. Práce se bude snažit postihnout Jindřicha Fiignera a Richarda Dotzauera ve třech rovinách, které povedou k pochopení interakce mezi těmito podnikateli a společností. Vykreslí tak podíl těchto osobností na společenské změně a zároveň se zaměří na zvraty, které ovlivnily jejich jednání a postoje. Pozornost bude věnována jejich obchodní činnosti, společenským vazbám a mentalitě. Dříve než přikročím k vlastním podnikatelským osobnostem, nastíním v první části práce názory společenských vědců na úlohu podnikatele v hospodářském procesu a společnosti samotné. Tento přehled napomůže k vymezení obecnějších problémových okruhů a především k vytvoření definice termínu podnikatel, neboť její tvorba je poměrně komplikovanou. Oba medailony podnikatelů jsou pak rozčleněny shodně, podle již zmíněného modelu. První kapitolu tvoří vlastní životopis s důrazem na podnikatelskou činnost.
