Kaizl versus Bráf. Economic liberalism versus economic nationalism in Czech lands at the turn of the 19th and 20th century?
Slavík, Jan ; Soběhart, Radek (advisor) ; Chalupecký, Petr (referee)
The bachelor thesis, called "Kaizl versus Bráf. Economic liberalism versus economic nationalism in Czech lands at the turn of the 19th and 20th century?", concerns with economic nationalism in Czech lands and understands it as a definite kind of protectionism. The thesis wants to prove that economic nationalism is aimed only at restriction of competition and for achieve this aim is used national question. The opposite of this interpreted economic nationalism is liberal theory, which gradually disproves with its arguments all the ideas, on which stands economic nationalism. I support my thesis with economic thinking of two important Czech national economists from the end of 19th and the beginning of 20th century, who often devoted to questions of protective measures and liberalism in their works.
The economic miracle JZD Slušovice?
Suková, Nikol ; Soběhart, Radek (advisor) ; Chalupecký, Petr (referee)
Bachelor thesis comes with the interpretation of issues concerned with collective farm Slušovice called an "economic miracle of socialism." The essence of the problem consists in the question of whether collective farm Slušovice was really an "economic miracle socialism" or this "miracle" deliberately created as a proof of good functionality of the socialist system. Based on the information related to agricultural production in the cooperative, associated production, exceptions that were granted to cooperative, visits to be realized there, it was discovered that the cooperative in fact had not the character of an agricultural cooperative and number of exceptions and authorizations which were given, were quite abnormal. In conclusion it can be stated that the initial hypothesis was confirmed and that is the collective farm Slušovice was not an "economic miracle of socialism."
The Czechoslovakian economy on the beginning of transformation
Števík, David ; Tajovský, Ladislav (advisor) ; Chalupecký, Petr (referee)
My bachelor thesis is an analysis of the process of transformation of Czechoslovakia's (resp. Czech) centrally planned economic system to a market economic system, which took place in the period after November 1989. I attempt to outline the conditions which were present in the second half of the 1980s and I focus on why, in the long term, the centrally planned economic system resulted in massive losses in comparison with the market economic system. I am concerned with the issue of what effect the initial conditions present within the Czechoslovakian economy had on the beginning of transformation in comparison with other relevant economies. I define and characterize each individual theoretical approaches towards the process of transformation and the resulting transformational scenarios which were observed after the fall of Communism and which were considered as potential models which could be applied to the future evolution of Czechoslovakian economic policy. Further, I concentrate on, who proposed these scenarios, what chance they had for realization, what kind of scenarios they were as well as which scenario it was that eventually won and why it won, including an examination of its basic principals and rationale. I attempt to analyze the economic and political motivations of the separate political forces which were associated with the various transformation scenarios, as well as to explain why the eventual model chosen was the one represented by Václav Klaus. This thesis draws from published sources and the most recent professional literature.

Števíková, Eva ; Tajovský, Ladislav (advisor) ; Chalupecký, Petr (referee)
The aim of my bachelor thesis is an analysis of the process of privatization in Czechoslovakia, resp. in the Czech Republic, after the fall of the socialist regime in 1989. The transfer of state property to private hands became one of the key aspects of the transformation process and was one of the necessary prerequisites for a functioning free market. In the introduction of my work, I will evaluate certain hypotheses held by the creators and participants at the beginning of the process of privatization as well outline as which options and strategies were considered. I will also try to answer the question of why things proceeded in the manner in which they did. I will attempt to define the risks and pressures that the transfer of such a huge amount of property in such a short time entailed. I will describe the process of denationalization, namely restitution through small and large privatization, while focusing on the progress of voucher privatization, which served as the primary method of large privatization. In my work, I drew from published sources and recent professional literature.

The thesis is divided into four parts. The first part describes the social and economic background before the monetary reform, the second chapter is devoted to the causes of the reform process itself and includes the analysis of social impacts, which are examined through a change in the standard of living of the whole population. The third chapter focuses on selected part of society -the working class, the conditions of their life and changes in living standard of workers' families after conducting the reform. The chapter also contains an analysis of wage and price changes of the population, which demonstrates one of the most negative aspects of the reform. The last part focuses on the years after the reform with its ongoing influence.
Boom in the weapon production in Czechoslovakia in the 1930s
Pejsar, Adam ; Skřivan, Aleš (advisor) ; Chalupecký, Petr (referee)
The position and history of the Czechoslovak Republic played a key role in its decision to focus on the weapon industry during the interwar period. Given the unstable situation in the newly emerged countries in the Central European region and with respect to the tradition of a heavy-weapon production, Czechoslovakia began to produce arms on a much larger scale. The increasing armament in 1930s was not even stopped by the Great Depression. Furthermore, weapon production helped the country to report higher exports and boosted the otherwise stagnating economy. The boom in the weapon production came during 1934-1938. Due to the quality of Czechoslovak arms and the high demand for them abroad, the Czechoslovak total export showed at least a slight increasing trend during this period. Nevertheless, large public expenditures in this sector had to be covered by augmenting public debt and increased tax rates.
