Development of educational PC software for visually impaired children

The diploma work is focused on development of educational PC software dedicated to visually impaired children. It is intended for junior school-aged children with visual abilities in category of middle and high level of low vision and also for children with disorders of binocular vision. The intention of this sotware is education of visually impaired children especially in domain of knowledge about the world of animals. It also helps children to reeducate their vision abilities.
Communication systems of deaf blind people

This thesis is dealing with the communication systems of deaf blind people. The theoretical part is focusing on the basic informations about deaf blindness - definitions, classification of deaf blind people, deaf blind personalities, the origination and the causes of handicap and syndromes which cause deafblindness. One of the chapters is oriented in compensation aids. The pivotal chapter is about the communication systems of the deaf blind persons. The purpose of my work is to map out the minority of deaf blind people in Czech republic, find out their communication potentialities and acquire informations about the problems that are facing during communication. The practical part of the thesis forms a research based on questionnaires for deaf blind people of the LORM association - society of deaf blind, one of the biggest associations of this kind today.
Visual therapy in the early and pre-school age.

In my dissertation, I adress problems of vision therapies in early and preschool age of children. I am explaining each single term related to some kinds of vision therapies, sight perception and sight functions in the theoretical part. I also mention facilities for disabled children of preschool age. In the practical part of my dissertation, I adress accessability to aids for visually handicapped children in preschool age. I am comparing situation of children in special preschools with children being integrated and children, which do not go to preschool. I am trying to find out, how common printed informations are available and which aids are used most.
History and Present of the Home for visually impaired people Palata

My bachelor s thesis on the History and Present of the Home for visually impaired people Palata has been conceived as a complex statement. I divided it into three parts, each of them dealing with specific areas. The first part is dedicated to the history of the home. I mention not only important dates, persons, foundation documents, methods of working with inmates but also financing of the institution or political interests which influenced the life of inhabitants and staff. The second part is focused on contemporary run of the Palata. I talk about the objectives and tasks, conditions of acceptance of clients, as well as current methods of work with clients, above standard activities, organizational structure or entirelly fundamental reconstruction of the building. In the third part I deal with case studies, which I divided into four sections - visual impairment, childhood, adulthood and old age. Palata surveyed clients differ in the type of disability, whereas one has been blind since childhood, the other since old age, the third has a specific combination, she is deaf-blind. Each case report is unique and original.
Speech Instruction and the Prevention of Break-downs in Communication Abilities in a Nursery School

The Graduation paper is directed at the validation of touch capabilities of visually impaired children of the age 13-17 years, through application of STIP test. STIP, developed in United Kingdom, is transformed into doted Braill code and verifies the speed of reading the numbers. Accuracy vs. error rate in the lines, speed of reading and concentration (attention) will be assessed. On the basis of the test evaluation aligned with relevant manual, the performance of children is compared with the UK children in the same age category. Following the comparison, the overall evaluation of this research is performed.
Concept of basal stimulation concerning people with severe disability

My Diploma work focuses on the concept of Basal stimulation® and its practical application in the treatment of people with disabilities. The theoretical part briefly introduces the basic concept of Basal stimulation®, describes the history of its beginning and development, then deals with the way people accept individuals with several disabilities, as well as those with mild forms of disability. The following part of my work analyses the characteristics of each part of the stimulation: somatic, vibratory, vestibular, optical, acoustic, oral, realted to smell, tactile.The practical part describes the use of basal stimulation for people with disabilities. This part includes the results of a research questionnaire on the use of the stimulation for pupils with several disabilities case history.
Methodology of visua handicap reeducation in a kindergarten special class for visually handicapped children

The dissertation is focused on the methodology of vision reeducation with amblyopic and squint-eyed children in the form of playful activities without using special instruments. The theoretical part deals with sorting and classification of vision defects and listing the most frequent vision defects in the pre-school period. Possible approaches to the visually handicapped individuals and attitudes to the handicapped before and after 1990 are described here, as well as the fundamental terms used in the education and training of the visually handicapped are defined. The method of reeducation, especially the pedagogical education and training method, overlaps into the practical part of the dissertation. In that part, there is a detailed analysis of the methodology of games and playful activities suitable for vision reeducation in a kindergarten special class for visually handicapped children, where there is the major part of amblyopic and squint-eyed children. Application of special educators in residential social and health services for the elderly

Rigorous thesis presents the possibility of employment of special pedagogues in residential health and social facilities for seniors. There are understood primarily homes for the elderly, special regime homes and hospitals for terminal illnesses. In relation to the theoretical character of this thesis there was used a research method for analysis and compilation of scientific texts in order to provide a comprehensive overview of current information about the problems of work. The rigorous thesis is in terms of content divided into seven chapters, where the first one deals mainly with codifying the profession of special pedagogues in social and health services. The second chapter presents the residential facilities of social and health services. The third chapter presents the employment of special pedagogues in residential facilities for seniors in the scheme of advisor - diagnostician - therapist. The last three chapters then discuss these roles in detail and present practical guidelines and procedures that can be used in work with seniors in these facilities. Parents' Voice: Concerns, barriers and benefits of Parental Involvement for children with Autism in Malaysia

The involvement of parents at home and in school is a crucial factor in the development of child with autism. This qualitative study explored the similarities and difference between the perceptions of Malaysian parents on parental involvement. The selected participants are parents of children with autism, and are currently enrolled either in a primary government or private school. The present study used semi-structured interviews to examine the participants' views on parental involvement. A thematic analysis was used to interpret the interview findings. The study showed that parents have similar definitions of parental involvement. However, it was also revealed that parents engaged in different types of parental involvement such as decision-making, collaboration with the community and learning-at-home. The parents also shared their views on the barriers to parental involvement including: lack of parent resources, financial constraints, poor education system and the lack of skilled special education teachers. The parents also shared their concerns about the children's ability to live independently in the future. The issue of special and inclusive education had become the crucial topic for discussion in Kazakhstan after signing the UN CRPD (Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities) in 2008. The fact that children with disabilities are excluded from the mainstream and quality education in Kazakhstan attracted the attention of national and international experts. Kazakhstan with its trilingual language policy (Kazakh language as the state language, Russian as the language of interethnic communication and English as a way to enter the global community (Ministry of Education and Science [MoES], 2010a)) should be able to provide quality language learning for children with and without disabilities. The attitudes of teachers remain as one of the most crucial factors in implementing inclusive education.
