The term accident in Benjamin Bratton's book The stack
Malecha, Matěj ; Šlerka, Josef (advisor) ; Koubský, Petr (referee)
Matěj Malecha, Akcident ve Stacku Abstract (in English): The master thesis explains the notion of "accident" in the book The Stack: On Software and Sovereignty by Benjamin H. Bratton. First, it identifies suitable mental models within the fields of complex systems theory, philosophy of technology and theory of information. The models inform subsequent analysis and interpretation of the Stack showing that Stack's accidentality (1) is an inevitable consequence of the functional principle of digital technologies, and that (2) the accidentality differs qualitatively depending on whether it manifests at the level of a layer or within the whole. The last part examines how Bratton's remark that the book is a design brief, and the fact that the Stack is not used solely by people affects the role of designer.
The ethical dimension of content marketing on social networks
Švamberk, Viktor ; Šlerka, Josef (advisor) ; Koubský, Petr (referee)
This diploma thesis describes and analyzes the ethical dimension of content marketing practice on social networks. The rapid pace of technological progress, shaping the birth of participatory Web 2.0 and social networks, has led to an ever-increasing gap between the everyday online experience and the discourse of applied ethics. Three main goals of this thesis are met. First, current academical knowledge (and its limits) in the field of marketing and information ethics is described. Secondly, with the help of Luciano Floridi's Information Ethics, a unified ethical framework for assessing specific moral dilemmas on social networks is constructed. Lastly, this framework is verified in an extensive Reddit case study, where each of the six pillars of the constructed ethical framework (which affects fundamental parameters and manifestations indicating unethical activity) are tested on manifestations of unacknowledged marketing activity. At the same time, the existence and emergence of the so-called ethical vacuum are illustrated, indicating that there is a need to update the theoretical approaches of applied ethics for the specifics of social networks and the infosphere in general.

Technical and social challenges in a conversational user interface
Soudný, Vojtěch ; Slussareff, Michaela (advisor) ; Koubský, Petr (referee)
(in English): Chatbots are automatised computer programs which are built to simulate an exchange in communication with a human being. Simultaneously, they provide new user interfaces. In 1994, Jacob Nielsen defined ten heuristic rules that are traditionally used within the design of user interfaces. This thesis's aim is to find out whether these ten rules are applicable in new fields of conversational environments. Secondly, what are the conditions under which the exchange becomes possible. The matter was examined through a qualitative research with the sample of eleven respondents who'd created chatbots within the Czech professional environment. The next step was a grounded analysis of existing established theories. The theoretical part explains the context in which chatbots are being created. It also shows theoretical canons of user interfaces which are the base of data and experience for the researches.

Its primary focus is the transformation of the image of urban space near the Bataclan music club in Paris as a result of terrorist attacks in November, 2015. Using the visual content analysis of user photographs and the theoretical background of the theory of photography, visual studies and memory studies, the author investigates what image of the given place is created by shared photographs in the time before, during and after the attacks. The main conclusion is that terrorist attacks have a significant impact on the Instagram content, but it is rather short-term and their ratio of content gradually decreases over the course of six months. The thesis also presents a comparative analysis of the content shared at the time of the attacks in Paris in 2015 and in Brussels in 2016. It aims to reveal similarities as well as differences in the image of these attacks on Instagram. Above all, this analysis confirms a strong similarity of user content in all locations, but at a more detailed level it also points to their local specifics such as different forms of communication by sharing various mottos and symbols.

The Rise of the YouTube Celebrity: The Migration of Young Audiences from TV to Independent Content Creators
Sedláček, Jakub ; Slussareff, Michaela (advisor) ; Koubský, Petr (referee)
This thesis aims to uncover the reasons behind the sudden rise of the YouTube celebrity and to test (by means of an experimental study of teenager interests) media claims that YouTubers have become more popular among teenagers than any traditional type of celebrity. The thesis integrates YouTubers into celebrity studies by first outlining the origins of celebrity and its general role in society and then drawing parallels between traditional types of celebrity and YouTubers via describing the characteristics they embody and the specific roles they perform. As a result, YouTubers are found to be a technologically determined next step in the evolution of the TV personality, whose celebrity is mainly structured around the concepts of familiarity and intimacy. What follows is a discussion of participatory culture, monetization and doing YouTube as a job, with emphasis on the effects these developments had on the rise of the YouTube celebrity and online content & culture in general. The thesis is concluded by an experimental study conducted using quantitative research methods on a sample of over 5,000 Czech teenagers by analyzing their Facebook page-likes. The results suggest that YouTubers really are more important to teenagers than traditional celebrities.
