This text will be used by future ERASMUS students coming to Prague to study electro-engineering. This thesis consists of an explained list of translation theories, the translated text itself, demonstration of mentioned theories and conclusion with personal experience.

Pragmatic aspects of communication with chatbots

Chatbots, programs able to communicate with a human, are becoming more and more popular in recent years. But because the artificial intelligence is a very complex scientific branch, it is difficult to create a human-like conversational robot. This paper will provide a brief introduction into the chatbot theory, where and how they are used, and Natural Language Processing technology. Several chatbots will be briefly described and exemplary conversations with them will be shown. The main attention will be paid to the pragmatic issues of conversation with a chatbot, such as observing the Conversational Maxims and Cooperation Principle. The findings will be demonstrated using analyses of dialogues with chatbots in the second part of the thesis.

Bachelor’s thesis “Electrotechnology – commented translation” aims at translating Czech scientific text into English language, which is used as a study material for students of Electrotechnology, and to convey comparative analysis of both the original and the translated text. The source text is divided into nine chapters from which several extracts were selected and analysed in terms of linguistics. Each of them is concerned with different area of electrical engineering and diverse variety of scientific terms is used. This bachelor’s thesis offers essential theory concerned with translation of scientific texts written in style of science and technology.

Comparative analysis of professional texts

This Bachelor´s thesis analyzes three technical texts from the field of electrical engineering. The first text chosen for this analysis is an academic textbook, the second is a technical research article, and the third is a technical lecture. All texts explain the topic of operational amplifiers. This thesis comments on the presented genres and their characteristics; however, its main focus is the analysis of cohesive chains. Types of grammatical and lexical cohesion are analyzed as well as the use of the keywords in the cohesive chains. The items of the identified cohesive chains are integrated in tables and their function in the discourse is commented on. The percentage occurrence of the individual categories of cohesion is calculated and it is implied that lexical cohesion prevails over grammatical. Some interesting distinctions arise from the comparison of the texts and the cohesive devices forming the cohesive chains.

Impact of Netspeak on the Development of the English Language

The aim of this Bachelor's thesis is to analyze the Internet slang (Netspeak), describe its development, distinctive features and functions. Furthermore, the thesis evaluates the changes caused by Netspeak that occurred in the English language. By means of concrete examples the thesis points out the new elements of Netspeak which have contributed to the development of the English language and thus influenced Internet users’ command of language.

Mass Spectrometry

Mass spectrometry is an analytical technique used for analysis of both organic and inorganic compounds. This topic is usually discussed in terms of chemistry, as this method can be used for identification of compounds of many kinds. However, the actual operation of machines performing the mass spectrometry can only be found in specialized books about mass spectrometry and these books usually offer only a very complicated description. Therefore, I decided to write a thesis that describes general information about mass spectrometry from the view of electric engineering, defining the individual steps of the analysis comprehensibly without emphasising the result but the process. In the second half of my bachelor thesis I focus on practical use of mass spectrometers in industry for leak detection testing and on types of leak detection tests, I explain important terms and describe the spectrometer LDS3000 in detail. My aim is to explain that this method is interesting and captivating and I would like to present it to the others.

Threats and negative influence of the use of technologies

The consumer-oriented products of the technological development are omnipresent, and their presence has had an undoubtable influence on the individual and society. The aim of this semester thesis to summarize the negative effects of the use of these technologies and point out possible threats, specifically focusing on the cognitive functions of human brain, behavioral addictions brought by the use of the technologies and conclude with possible solutions of partial problems and research methods to elaborate further investigation.

Key Differences Between Japanese and Western Video Games

This thesis is aimed to find the differences as well as similarities of video game design elements to emphasize how different cultures prioritize various aspects of a role-playing game. The differences between Western and Japanese role-playing games illustrate how cultural aspects impact the game development process. The theoretical section of this thesis focuses on the basic principles of Japanese art forms and aesthetics which are the factors behind the current styles in contemporary Japanese game art. The distinct character of Japanese games in comparison to Western-style video games is described as well as the reasons leading to these differences. Three RPG games are compared and analyzed regarding user interface, graphic design and character attributes.
