Sacrifice as Investment, Investment as Sacrifice
Hrivniaková, Jana ; Sedláček, Tomáš (advisor) ; Janotík, Tomáš (referee)
In this work we will look at a particular example of investment and sacrifice, where investment originates in science and sacrifice in myths, but they both meet. The question is what exactly is what they are describing. Is investment and sacrifice similar or to grasp full understanding of this phenomenon we need both approaches? There can be found characteristics of rites in investment, similar structure and symbolism as well as economic incentives incorporated in the sacrifice. However investment is not perceived as rite and communication with divinity and sacrifice is not pure cost and benefit analysis. This paper tries to answer these questions and clarify the line between the two. It was Walter Benjamin who was first to notice the similarities between religion and economics and we would like to continue with the discussion. This topic is not much discussed further in literature, therefore by this paper we would like to fill the gap and contribute to the topic.

De Gaulle's first veto on British membership of the European economic community as an instrument for promoting national interest
Mashehová, Sandra ; Kasáková, Zuzana (advisor) ; Perottino, Michel (referee)
This bachelor thesis is a case study which had as a goal to explore whether the veto of General Charles de Gaulle has as an objective to promote or ensure French national interest. Another aim of the paper was to answer whether de Gaulle's policy towards European Economic Community had in the first place geopolitical or economic character. Generally, de Gaulle's policy towards EEC and his decisions taken in European affairs are considered mainly in the geopolitical terms. This thesis set a goal to confirm or disprove this proposition throw analyzing debate between the supporters of liberalism and realism. Throw this analysis I have come to the conclusion that French national interest in de Gaulle's policy towards European Economic Community and reasons he vetoed British appeal to join the Community can't be seen only in geopolitical terms. As Moravcsik argues, economic roots and an effort to satisfy interest groups - French farmers - are evident in de Gaulle's policy. Economic reasons had at least same (or even higher) importance as geopolitical ones. Nevertheless, clear and definite answer to question whether the dominant theme in veto and national interest was Economy or Geopolitics still can't be given.

Konrádová, Kateřina ; Šanderová, Jadwiga (advisor) ; Vohlídalová, Marta (referee)
This bachelor thesis focuses on the issue of marriage, or more specifically, on the process of its formation or, in other words, mate selection. The author compares economic (G. S. Becker) and sociological (V. K. Oppenheimer) theory of the marriage market, including assortative mating. The subject of the work is to compare economic and sociological view of the issue of mate selection in an aim to discover common and different elements in the two scientific disciplines as regards the matter. The author works with four comparison criteria. The first one gives a general overview of the marriage market and describes how it functions, the second one shows the relationship between the marriage and job markets, the third is about assortative mating and the fourth one describes and explains changes in marriage behaviour in the second half of the twentieth century. Based on this, the author deems the sociological approach to be more adequate and suitable for investigating such a complex process as mate selection.

Krása, Petr ; Duffková, Jana (advisor) ; Šubrt, Jiří (referee)
This work analyzes mutual relationships between social structure and human relations. Above all, it analyzes the function of human relations in social structure. Human relations are understood here as social processes going on within social structure. The object of this analysis is examined on three levels: individual, human relations, social structure. Method of this thesis is analysis and synthesis of relevant (above all) sociological literature. By structural approach to the analyzed object, author concludes that human relations' function in social structure is to reproduce or change social structure. Human relations influence self- concept of human, which subsequently reflects in character of human relations and social structure and vice versa. Current character of social structure is seen as leading to alienation in many ways. In the end, the author brings to the discussion concrete proposal for the change of social structure by improving social abilities of people and consequently also improving human relations.
