A stand of the students of the Third Age University at Charles University on their oldness

The thesis is focused on the attitudes of students of the University of the Third Age to their own old age. The definition of the theoretical context in the first part focuses on the issues of aging and old age in connection with identifying the quality of life of seniors. This section is also focused on the topic Universities of the Third Age, their historical context in the current form. In the research part the results of the survey have been presented. To achieve the research objective, a quantitative research strategy, a method of questioning, was used. Specifically, a standardized questionnaire of attitudes to age and aging (AAQ) was used, which was developed by the World Health Organization. The main aim of this thesis was to determine the attitudes of students of the University of the Third Age at the Charles University to their own old age and then to compare these attitudes with a group of inactive seniors. Another subject of the research was also the influence of the social-demographic indicators on the attitudes of seniors to age and motivation of the undergraduates to study at the University of the Third Age. The use of the activating activities in the home for the elderly

This bachelor's thesis is about the usage of activation activities. Its main goal is to map activation activities offered in the Home for the Elderly "Máj" and how popular they are. The thesis is divided into two parts - theoretical and empirical. The theoretical part is further divided into four sections. The first one describes changes connected to getting old. Second section characterizes different kinds of activation activities. Third one describes how to correctly communicate with the elderly; it is important to know how to communicate with the elderly whose hearing or sight are impaired, or with those who suffer from dementia. The last section describes basic types of motivation that affects activity of the elderly. I have chosen qualitative strategy of the research. The research was in-field. Methods used for getting data were extrospective observation and half-structured dialog, method for processing the data was qualitative content analysis. The researched group of people were nine elderly women and three workers from the home for the elderly in the regional town. The research showed that the facility offers wide range of activation activities that may be performed each day - canistherapy, reminiscence, art therapy, psychotherapy, music therapy, ergotherapy - workshops, memory training, <coffee movies>, various cultural events, group games, reading and church services. The elderly are content with the available free time activities. It turns out that all of the approached elderly take part in at least one activity per week. One of the most visited and popular activities is ergotherapy - workshops, where larger groups of the elderly meet regularly. The interest in other activation activities is tied to the interests the elderly had before moving into the home for the elderly. Thanks to these activation activities they do not feel alone, they can meet with others and fulfill their needs. The results of this work can be used as feedback and information for specialists who create activation program in home for the elderly.

Ageing Processes and Family Functions Evolution

This work summarizes the third period of the human life. The changes arising during the period and relationships between elderly and the rest of the family are described. The care about independent old people is divided into two groups: provided by a family member or a professional assistant. The theoretical part is supported by the survey of health and long-term care in European Union. Knowledge and attitudes of a population of ten European countries with significant differences in social and economical markers are compared. The preferred type of the care, financial issues, insufficient care and a prevention of abusive behavior are investigated too. The results of the survey allege that the quality of the care in Czech Republic is satisfactory but still incomparable with standard in countries in Northern or Western Europe.

The relation of community members survived several ten years of political unconvenient atmosphere in making each other bindings. After come back of an old and new homeland to the democracy, the Czech spirit came alive again in Argentina. The life of compatriot community is becoming more and more varied and is powered by specific relation especially of elder community members to their memories about their childhood formed by national identity of their ancestors and their mother tongue. The community is trying to continue in active and well working associonational activity which started already more than 60 years ago. Happiness in the Elderly

This diploma thesis is focused on happiness in the elderly. It searches answers on questions like: Can be the senior citizens happy? How should we grow old without loosing contentment? The meaning of the word happiness is discussed, as well as multiple points of view on old age. The presence of happiness in elderly is studied including ways toward the happiness. The thesis also includes seven casuistry, which illustrate the happiness of senior citizens. The results of casuistry complement the theoretical parts of the work.

This diploma thesis deals with the representation and categorisation of old age and elderly care and their changes in media discourse of daily newspaper Blesk. Theory focuses on definitions of elderly and description of seniors and practices of elderly care in the Czech Republic. It describes changes of old age discourse in connection with the development of social policy and expert knowledge. It describes the concepts of representation and categorisation and their possible impacts in the form of stigmatisation, stereotyping and ageism. It discusses media as resources of symbolic power, ideology and discourse and sets out media representation of elderly. Related empirical part is based on qualitative discourse analysis of articles from Blesk in years 2007 and 2011. It discusses the outcomes with respect to changes of discourse and representation, stereotypes and active old age. It distinguishes three types of senior representation - like normal, stigmatized and active. Thematic distribution and stigmatisation of elderly constructs symbolic subordination of elderly as a population category. Care is described only rarely and isn't offered as the solution of the elderly's frailty.

The efficiency of the legal regulation of care for senior citizens

The effectiveness of legal regulation of care for the elderly - summary From the projected demographic development, one can conclude that the proportion of the elderly in the society will grow significantly in the future. Advancing age is generally accompanied by the weakening of self-reliance and the need of help from others to take care of oneself. The aim of this work is to capture the latest trends in taking care of the elderly and its legislative anchorage in the laws of the Czech Republic. The fundamental law from which I start is the act no. 108/2006 Sb. on social services. This act brought a large number of changes and new institutions into the department of care (not only for seniors), from which the most important was the introduction of care subsidy. The work is focused mainly theoretically, it is divided into seven chapters and further particular sub-chapters. The first chapter deals with embedding the social services into the social security law system, and also briefly with their historical development. These bases represent essential determinants that affect both the current state of social services, as well as their possible future development. Contribution to the pathophysiology of thrombophilic state after fractures surgery in patients over 75 years old

Introduction: Hip fracture surgery is the particular problem of very old patinets (>75 years), with high risk of VTE (up to 80%). It is essential to provide VTE prophylaxis. Patients advanced age and their polymorbidity contribute to the thrombophilic status. Objectives and methods: The aim of the study was to determine the changes of coagulation within the 28 post-operative days in 41 patients over 75 years who underwent hip fracture surgery. Another object was to determine acute phase response and an endothelial activation. The third task was to determine how affected is a key component of hemostasis, FXa activity by its specific inhibitor fondaparinux and enoxaparin, which inhibits FXa and thrombin in a 4:1 ratio and if there is bleeding complication in such a risk group patiens after antithrombotics long-term administration. Patients were randomly divided into two anticoagulant groups: fondaparinux (n = 23) and enoxaparin (n = 18). Results: Thrombophilia is demonstrated by a reactive increase of the most of these parameters preoperatively and reveals the effect of the initial trauma. A surgery further aggravates this reaction. Nonverbal behaviour of elderly people during animal-assisted activity

Natálie Lupienská: Nonverbal behaviour of elderly people during animal-assisted activity Abstract The aim of the study is to compare nonverbal behaviour of elderly people in three studied interactions: 1) with a therapeutic animal, specifically guinea-pig (Cavia aperea porcellus), 2) with a plush guinea-pig toy and 3) with an ordinary single-coloured cup. Twenty one elderly people (3 men and 18 women, average age of 85 years, SD 7,95 y) participated in the study. All data used for the purpose of the study (video recordings) were collected in a Prague residential house for elderly people in summer 2009. An ethogram composed of sixty elements was prepared. Consequently the Interact software was used for coding of those elements. The inter-subject comparison demonstrated that a guinea-pig significantly enhances an interest in an object and tactile behaviour of observed people. There was no significant difference between the three examined situations in terms of respondent's communication with a therapist, facial expressions or the overall activity. Prognostic estimate of needed capacity of facilities providing care for elderly in Nový Jičín District until the year 2030

The main aim of the thesis is to estimate a needed capacity of nursing homes and houses with home help services in the district Nový Jičín. The year 2030 was chosen as a time horizon. Current facilities, age and sex structure of their users in this district were described by means of field inquiry. The proportion of users of facilities was estimated from real population of the district at specific age. Important part of the thesis is a forecast of population growth of the district, which was based on the previous population development there. This trend was compared with population development in Moravian-Silesian region and in the Czech Republic as a whole in the special chapter. The estimate of needed capacity of above-mentioned facilities connects the forecast of the future development of age structure of elderly with contemporary availability of the facilities providing care for elderly. The thesis also describes the development of facilities providing care for elderly in the Czech Republic, furthermore it analyses the factors that can influence demand for these facilities.
