State and War: Development of the Concept
Duda, Jan ; Barša, Pavel (advisor) ; Slačálek, Ondřej (referee)
The history of international law, understood as an object of intersubjective reality, reflected various territorial structures of human society. States, as bearers of international law, were made in course of history by wars that they led with each other. On the basis of thought of Carl Schmitt we can distinguish two historical structures of territory: the universal medieval empire and the modern sovereign states. Both of these structures were connected with distinct systems of international law and with distinct concepts of war. Since the turn of 19th and 20th century we can observe signs of decline of the Westphalian system of sovereign states. This process, accompanied by changes in concept of war, began to be fully expressed at the beginning of the 21st century in connection with so called war on terror. On the juridical concepts of war on terror and humanitarian intervention I show decline of the Westphalian system of sovereign states and possible return to the international structure of the medieval empire.

The monotheistic religions in the textbooks of civics
CHOCHOLOVÁ, Květa
The aim of my work is to show the position of monotheistic religions, namely Christianity, Judaism and Islam, in civics textbooks and in the eyes of today's teachers and pupils in the primary schools. Today´s Czech society does not attach more importance to religion, even though they constitute a significant part of our and the world´s history. The work is divided into two parts, theoretical and practical. In the theoretical section are described the basic information about textbooks and further analysis of the civics textbooks that contain the topic of religion, since the 90s of the last century to the present. There is also a history outline and present of Judaism, Christianity and Islam. The main task, in the practical part, is to review and evaluate the attitudes of today's teachers and students for teaching religion in civic education in primary school. The research was conducted using questionnaires, which are suitable for obtaining information related to this issue. To compare the research, there was also added 8 years gymnasium, concretely the lower level together with two primary schools.

The Kurdish Minority in Turkey: Problems and Perspectives
Netopilová, Eliška ; Zemanová, Štěpánka (advisor) ; Trávníčková, Zuzana (referee)
The treatment of minorities by different states gains scholarly attention in the recent years. This thesis attempts to define the necessary criteria for a state to have in order for its treatment of minorities to be acceptable by the international society. There are three major parts of the thesis. It starts with a thorough investigation of legal dimension of minority rights. The thesis formulates the criteria that a state should meet in the field of national and international law regarding minority rights. The second part investigates the political dimension of the issue. The analysis of political dimension describes the interaction of governments with minorities and the factors influencing the success of minorities in achieving their demands. In the final part of the thesis, the criteria formulated in legal and political dimensions are applied to the case of the Kurdish minority in Turkey. The position of Kurdish minority in the society is unique because of the Turkish state's assimilationist policies towards ethnic minorities till very recent years. The minority rights defined by international society were, therefore, not recognized in Turkey. However, the situation has recently changed. The current government ruled by Justice and Development Party has applied numerous democratization reforms that normalize the position of minorities. The Kurdish minority is not discriminated against as much as it was in the past. In addition to the analysis of the current state of minority rights in Turkey, the thesis proposes opportunities for improvement in the future.

Here under the Cover. An Anthropology of Food.
Pokorná, Anna ; Ezzeddine, Petra (advisor) ; Abu Ghosh, Yasar (referee)
Synaesthesia (Sutton, 2001), a term used in anthropology of food for the capacities of food to evoke the past in its sensual totality, finds its use in the situation of migration. Migration as a geographical and cultural displacement leaves the country of origin behind. Country of origin becomes the past, its food can be used for evocation of this past experiences subsumed under the notion of home. Evocation of home through the medium of food helps to patch the discontinuites arising from displacement. The memory of home operates as filter through which new circumstances, beliefs and values are experienced and viewed. Taste and eating habits as a part of habitus, mundane taken-for-granted world, yet embodied part of beliefs and cultural norms, are resistant to suspicion that our perception of it might be subject to our interpretation and can play an active role as confirmation of our beliefs about self and Others, and cosequently as the legitimation of action. Moreover, contextuality of food and eating habits (Appadurai, 1988) allows to place cultural difference in the private contexts and does not interpede the proces of integration into the host society. In combination with its mundane taken-for-granted qualities food serves as an ideal material to pass on the cultural difference over the...
