Data journalism and its contemporary use
Indra, Jan ; Čermák, Miloš (advisor) ; Jirků, Jan (referee)
The rapid development of technology in the last decades caused an extreme growth in the amount of available information. We live in an era, where information whirls around us almost all the time, thus it is becoming increasingly difficult to have a clear notion about the world and keep track of what is going on. Media realise this development and they are forced to react. One of such reactions is the emergence of a new trend in journalism called data journalism. "Data-driven journalism" is principally based on thorough and critical analysis of various amounts and types of data, and its goal is to reveal new insights. Insights about data which might be key for complex understanding of social phenomena in the 21st century. This paper presents data journalism as a unique field of journalistic work, it defines data journalism and describes some of the processes that lead to creating its output. The practical part of the paper presents its own data journalism project, which attempts for an original analysis and visualisation of the Czech Trade Inspection open data sources. Sverge - A Flexible Tool for Comparing & Merging
Švec, Ondřej ; Ježek, Pavel (advisor) ; Beneš, Jan (referee)
2 Title: Sverge - A Flexible Tool for Comparing & Merging Author: Ondřej Švec (sverge@svecon.cz) Department: Department of Distributed and Dependable Systems Supervisor of the bachelor thesis: Mgr. Pavel Ježek, Ph.D., Department of Distributed and Dependable Systems (jezek@d3s.mff.cuni.cz) Abstract: Developers, who work on larger projects, are using revision control systems, which usually does not have a built-in tool for visualising differences between directories and individual files or they only offer a console interface. Even though there are numerous tools for visualising the differences, none of these tools are modular, so that a visualisation for a different file types can be added. A tool called Sverge that is modular and pluginable was created, it can visualise differences between directories and text files by default and more visualisations can easily be added. The tool was created using C# programming language, it can natively run on Microsoft Windows operating system and it can easily be integrated with popular revision control systems. Keywords: visualisation, differences, 2-way, 3-way, files, directories, modular, extensible

Visualization of plans for logistics tasks
Stočes, Filip ; Surynek, Pavel (advisor) ; Dvořák, Filip (referee)
Plan analysis is important for testing of planning systems and checking the plan before its execution. VLP application (result of this thesis) helps user with orientation in plans for logistical tasks and with finding possible flaws in plans. VLP offers tools for creating a logistical problem and running a planner, which creates a solution (plan) for this problem. The application then visualizes and simulates this plan, allowing the user to analyse it. VLP runs in a graphical user interface, so the user does not have to deal with writing problem and plan in PDDL.
Visual Narrative Elements in Human-Computer Interaction
Galová, Ružena ; Brejcha, Jan (advisor) ; Fišerová, Michaela (referee)
User interface elements and the order in which they are organized and perceived by the user are creating particular narrative - visual narrative. This narrative, which is interpreted by users, should serve as a visual tool to guide users through the process of interaction. Meaning of the interface is created through visual relationships and their hierarchy. Visual narrative can guide the user through the necessary steps of interaction by using an appropriate spacing and enhancing of interfaces elements. Presentational diploma thesis demonstrates that structure of visual narrative has a particular impact on a quality of human-computer interaction. The case study represents application of constructed principles on the selected web pages of airline reservation systems.
