History and the present code of ethics in the helping professions

This work is focused on issues of codes of ethics. It outlines the historical roots from ancient times to the present. It presents information on the principles, rules, standards and aims which combine ethical codes. The second part of this work is focused on the Code of ethics of sign language interpreters, which was created by Czech Chamber of Sign Language Interpreters. It analyse in detail each point of this Code of ethics and presents basic specifics and principles of interpreting. The main aim of this work is to analyse complience with the principles of the Code and analyze overall condition of interpreting services in the Czech Republic. These analyses is based on the interviews with the interpretor and the deaf, which represents two opposing views on this issue.
Teaching English to Deaf Students

This bachelor thesis focuses on the process of teaching the English language to students who are deaf. The objective of the theoretical part is to present possible differences in the process of teaching a foreign language that result from the different identity of deaf students and to illustrate the situation of teaching a foreign language to deaf students. The practical part aims to present various methods that may assist during the process of teaching. It also describes the observed lessons of English at schools for the hearing impaired.
The difference in the character of understanding and experiencing emotions between heaving impaired users of sign language and intact people.

The presented bachelor thesis deals with the topic of understanding and experiencing emotions of the hearing-impaired users of sign language. Describes similarities and differences in understanding emotions and emotional experience of the target group and the intact population, and within theoretical and practical parts strives to point out causes of potential differences. The theoretical part summarizes the most important influences on personality development of the hearing-impaired users of sign language and their emotional experiencing, among them e.g. nature of family environment, type of adopted communication system, specific education strategies, and different views and population attitudes towards the hearing-impaired. The empirical part includes two interviews conducted with experts on the issue of hearing impairment, and results of the color-semantic differential test, supplemented with individual expressions of emotions and stimulus words related to the topic of the thesis. Differences in the evaluation of the stimulus words and individual associations are also described. Outcomes of interviews describe similarities and differences between the target and control group, alternatively their explanation. Test results point to some differences in dissimilarity of emotional intensity, in value hierarchy of stimulus words, and in the number of discrepancies between conscious and unconscious evaluation of stimulus words. Due to the limited size of the research sample and the methods used, it is not advisable to generalize the results of this paper. The conclusions of the thesis may serve a topic for further studies.
Myths and prejudices about Czech sign language

This bachelor work focuses on myths and prejudice concerning Czech sign language and communication among deaf people in general. This work is divided into a theoretical and practical part. In the theoretical part, the author follows the development of chosen myths regarding this topic in Czech and Slovak literature published from 1900 until 1995 and tries to disprove them on the basis of present scientific, especially linguistic, literature. In the empiric part, the author aims to map, with the help of questionnaire inquiry, how the myths and prejudice in the above mentioned scientific literature spread in the awareness of both lay and pedagogical public
Providing Interpretation Services for the Deaf within Districts of Czech Republic

This final paper is focused on the recent situation of providing interpretation services for the deaf in Czech Republic. It discusses the development of interpretation services in Czech Republic from seventies of the twentieth century until the present time. In this paper also various approaches to interpretation for the deaf are included as well as the role of interpreter and legislation norms associated with interpretation. It also describes functioning of interpretation organizations providing interpretation services. It also mentions the historical turbulences and milestones in the development of interpretation services that have had a considerable impact on the deaf community and that particularly have been directly connected to the sign language legislation and to the changes of the sign language interpreter's Code of Ethics. The data provided by the Czech Chamber of Sign Language Interpreters (Komora) have been the base for practical part of this final paper. A Contrastive Approach in Teaching Czech Language to Czech Deaf

This work deals with the issue of teaching Czech language to Czech deaf and with the importance of sign language in this teaching process. There is described a process of language acquisition (for hearing and deaf children) and there is also described the difference between acquiring the first language and learning a second / foreign language. The work also denotes the causes of low literacy of Czech deaf and the possibility of solving this problem. Only a major change in the way of teaching Czech language can be the solution. Czech is a second language for Czech deaf and if we want it to be taught effectively, it must be taught in the contrast with the Czech sign language. Time Prepositions in Writings of Czech Deaf

The thesis deals with the written Czech language of the Czech Deaf, specifically with time prepositions. The theoretical part of the thesis summarizes knowledge about the written Czech language of the Czech Deaf, the ways of expressing tense in Czech language and in Czech sign language and gives the description of Czech prepositions, especially Czech time prepositions. The second part of the thesis is practical and includes the research focused on using time prepositions in writings of the Czech Deaf. The research includes the analysis of written texts and also testing of qualities in the usage of prepositional phrases by pupils and students of schools for the hearing-impaired. The thesis is based on Czech and foreign studies related to relevant topics.
Communication Problems of Deaf People in the field of Health Care

The aim is to map the most common problems the deaf have when communicating with personnel in health care institutions in this area. The theoretical part of the bachelor's thesis deals with the classification of hearing impairments, communication methods of the deaf, the role of sign language interpreters, as well as patient's rights. The practical part is based on a questionnaire survey of deaf people and analyses the most common problems of the deaf in health care institutions
Stumbling blocks for hard of hearing people living in a normally hearing population

Summary: The bachelor thesis deals with the life problems of hearing impaired people in normally hearing population. The paper describes general characteristics of individual hearing afflictions, the specifics related to the time when the impairment occurred, the social position of the hearing impaired person in the society and the basic principles and differentiations while communicating with such a person. The thesis further describes the specifics of communication systems - primarily concentrated on spoken language, Czech sign language and signed Czech. One chapter deals with specific social position of the hearing impaired people in their own community. The purpose of this thesis is to clarify the present situation of the hearing disabled population in the Czech Republic and to stress what could be further improved in their everyday life situation - beginning with their education, seeking suitable employment and solving their common problems. The practical part talks about individual personal needs and the everyday life pitfalls of the hearing impaired people.
