Translation in the Dialogue: The Process of Encoding and Decoding of Film Style in a Remake of the Original Work
Gladiš, Michal ; Svatoňová, Kateřina (advisor) ; Kokeš, Radomír D. (referee)
The following bachelor's thesis concerns the remake, in the context of its use in the history of cinema and in film theory. I discuss the various definitions and possible forms of the remake, which has existed since the inception of film. Each theoretical consideration of the remake brings about a different choice of perspective and method of examination. Thus, the main part of the thesis is comprised of an effort to acquire a new apparatus through which one can think of the remake as a variant interpretation of the original work. In this regard, I transpose approaches from literary theory to film discourse, mainly referencing the theoretical methods of Gérard Genette, Julia Kristeva, Seymour Chatman, Umberto Eco and the concepts of intertextuality and interpretation. The last chapter analyzes two specific films, positioning Takashi Miike's Visitor Q as a remake of Pier Paolo Pasolini's Teorema. The relationship between remake and original develops new readings of both works. A remake is, in fact, based on the filmmaker's unique reading of an original work. This reading marks the transition between the filmmaker's experience as a viewer of the original and their position as creator of the remake.
Ladislav Fuks: The Duchess and the Art of Cookery - Appearance of Biedermeier?
Součková Linhartová, Ladislava ; Vojvodík, Josef (advisor) ; Merhaut, Luboš (referee)
This thesis is an attempt to interpret the novel of Ladislav Fuks - The duchess and the art of cookery. It is focused on the relationship of its fictional world with culture and with the philosophy of biedermeier. Biedermeier is thought to be a value stream, a harmonizing approach to life, and also a method, which prefers idylls. The analytic source is Gérard Genette's theory of transtextuality, chosen because of Fuks's distinctive intertextuality of his work.
In The Light of Kabbalah: Jewish Mistique in Polish Literature in The Interwar Period
Benešová, Michala ; Poslední, Petr (advisor) ; Holý, Jiří (referee) ; Sobotková, Marie (referee)
Thesis In the Light of Kabbalah: Jewish Mystique in Polish Literature in the Interwar Period deals with different models of reflection of Jewish religious and mystical tradition in the Polish interwar literature (on the example of three authors representing different ways of perceiving their own Jewish roots as well as the processing of themes based on the tradition of Jewish mysticism). Aleksander Wat, originally a futurist, was critical of the Jewish religious tradition - but still cannot his own "Jewishness" escape; prose writer Bruno Schulz offers an unique vision of cosmogony and eschatology reminiscent of - besides other things - selected concepts of Kabbalah; Bolesław Leśmianʼs relationship to this tradition is the looses, but on the other hand his method of working with motives which can interpreted in the context of the Jewish religious tradition is very original. Literary work of all three - as the heirs to the "people of the Book" - is marked by a specific relationship to language and the written word. In addition to this theme we deal with e.g. the Golem motive, the idea of the creation of the world or the idea of God. These analytical chapters are preceded by a theoretical and methodological introduction based on the traditions of literary hermeneutics, but also on selected concepts of...

Intercultural mass media communication and the search of perfect language
Tesařová, Kristýna ; Šoltys, Otakar (advisor) ; Dvořák, Tomáš (referee)
The aim of this diploma thesis is a qualitative analysis of a media dialogical network's extract regarding chemical attack in Syria on 21st August 2013. In spite of the fact that main social participant in the subsequent international conflict, representatives of United States of America and Syria, president Obama, Secretary of State Kerry on one side and president Assad on the other side, have never actually met face to face, mass media interconnected their reactions into a coherent dialogue between west and east civilization and they accepted it as a part of intercultural negotiation of different meanings and interpretations of reality within a global mass media discourse. Methodological apparatus of conversation analysis and membership categorization analysis provides a tool to observe sequential and categorization aspects of a dynamic intertextual process of specification and respecification of the core cultural and political values in context. Thanks to the term structured immediacy it was also possible to consider sequential ordering of antecendents of the event in historical continuum. This analysis is based on ethnomethodological research of social interaction in mass media and is inspired by articles of J. Nekvapil und I. Leudar, which were dedicated to the analysis of intercultural...
