Roberto Saviano's Gomorrah. Reality and fiction
Bursíková, Martina ; Flemrová, Alice (advisor) ; Pelán, Jiří (referee)
This thesis focuses on the selected topics of Roberto Saviano's Gomorrah and it attempts to examine the way the author works with facts and how he presents them. In the introductory chapter I gave an outline of Saviano's work and of the general characteristics of his literary style, his processing of facts and work with them and the main topics of his writings. In the beginning of my thesis, I addressed the topic of a literary style called the New Journalism. I presented its main ideas, representatives, literary goals and the core points of its manifesto. When assessing Saviano's work in the context of New Journalism, I believe it is crutial to consider its objectivity, genuine capture of reality and its comprehensive approach to narration of facts with a literary language of aesthetic dimension. Saviano's only deflection from this style would be in his role of the narrator. New Journalism seeked to push the role of the narrator to the background or to have it absent altogether whereas Saviano often appears in his own plays as a direct participant or an indirect commentator. The view of the author, the participant or the characters did frequently appear in the works of New Journalism. The most common form, however, was to expound and describe the character through its' own mind - which makes the role of the...

This thesis deals with the history and evolution of the phenomenon of the Camorra in one of the southern Italian regions - Campania. Camorra originated as a result of appalling social conditions in the south of Italy before its unification. The former ruling system in Naples neighborhood was inefficient and distant for the general population. In contrast, the Camorra everyday system responded immediately and was efficient, fast and productive. Before the constitution of the modern Italian state in 1861, Camorra had already more than half a century of history and activities, and was firmly established itself in the society of Campania. From 1819, when the first written note about Camorra appeared till the first decade of the 21st century it has undergone a complicated and interesting development and changes. During this period, there were several transformations in the functioning of its system. From the initial racketeering and small crime the Camorra's system was transformed into the highly organized companies, whose representatives can be well established members of the highest levels of the Italian society. The thesis also describes how the Camorra's social security ensures its members. From the point of view of Camorra's members their system never fails on the contrary to the official state...

Bachelor thesis Reasons for Declaration of War on Drugs in Mexico: Two Perspectives of View deals with reasoning of Mexican War on Drugs that was proclaimed by Mexican president in 2006. It describes two different perspectives on the war. One of them is adopted by the Mexican government and is based on arguments that Mexico became a country - drug consumer; level of violence increased and security situation in country significantly deteriorated; drug cartels exercise more influence in Mexican politics. The second view is based on the situation that occurred in the country after the presidential elections in 2006. Untransparent elections and Calderón's very close victory resulted in the thesis that Calderón needed a strong theme which would be supported by people and at the same time would lead away from the unstable political situation in Mexico. This paper aims to analyze these perspectives and answer the question why the war was proclaimed and what stands behind the different approach of the government.
The Criminal Means of Dealing with Organized Crime
Coufalová, Bronislava ; Jelínek, Jiří (advisor) ; Sváček, Jan (referee) ; Polák, Peter (referee)
Presented dissertation is devoted to the criminal means of dealing with organized crime. Recently the organized crime has undoubtedly belonged to the category of most serious problems that the individual countries, including the Czech Republic, have had to cope with especially in the field of legislature. In our country this phenomenon became more visible after the fall of the totalitarian regime when the borders were opened. This resulted in the boost in the activity of foreign criminal societies and domestic criminal societies consequently. However, at the beginning the Czech legislature did not take any serious action thus providing free space for the organized crime to establish itself in the Czech Republic. It was the intensive calls for an action that would react to the current situation which spurred the legislature to make several more or less crucial changes prevailing up to now. When dealing with the organized crime, the tools of criminal substantive as well as procedural law appear to be the most effective ones. The organized crime as the most serious type of group crime can be effectively dealt with only through specific criminal-law institutes and mechanisms which can adequately fight against this phenomenon as far as revealing the perpetrators, penalizing and finally destroying the...
