Svitáková, Hana ; Vachková, Eva (referee) ; Mellanová, Alena (advisor)
The profession of nurse is closely connected with very intensive psychical and physical load, especially in the intensive care units (ICU). The interesting, but very sad fact, is that the mortality in ICU units in Czech republic is about 20%. Dying of each patient is of course a very stressful situation for his relatives and also for attending doctors and nurses. These frequent stressful situations result often in psychical or physical burnout by nurses in ICU. The unpleasant consequence of burnout by nurses is very often the change of job. The target of this thesis is to map the psychical load of nurses in ICU in czech hospitals. The target was met. The hypothesis number 1 was confirmed by the research. The hypothesis 2, 3, 4, 5 weren't confirmed. This diploma thesis has two main parts - teoretical and practical. The practical part of this diploma thesis is the qualitative research, that was made by questionnairies, that were sent to nurses of ICU in czech hospitals. The total number of sent questionnairies was 257 - the number of answered and returned questionnairies was 210 (82%). These 210 questionnaries were used in this diploma thesis. This research was made in january and february in 2010. The results of the research will be used in the future in czech hospitals in case of their concern. When...

Juklíčková, Ilona ; Havrdová, Zuzana (advisor) ; Drábková, Hana (referee)
This thesis deals with the changes in the concept of the ideal characteristics of a nurse in the context of historical development, social changes and other factors. These include mainly an educational reform, new biomedical findings and the influence of the media along with generational differences in nurses. This thesis aims at comparing the ideal characteristics of a nurse as portrayed in professional literature with ideas which nurses have themselves about their own desired professional characteristics. Specifically, it concentrates on what values these ideal characteristics represent in their eyes, whether their ideas change with age and how this relates to the perception of the prestige of the nursing profession by nurses themselves. The theoretical part is divided into chapters describing the ideal professional characteristics of a nurse based on the findings acquired from professional literature, whose topics also correlate with chapters in the research part and represent the development of the "model" nurse concept from the beginnings of Christianity to the present day. It assesses the differences in the concept of this ideal in Western Europe and the Czech lands in the course of the 20th century, in the context of social transformations and changes in nursing education. Furthermore, based...

Hlinovská, Jana ; Koťa, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Pelikán, Jiří (referee)
This disertation is focused on problems of a nurse profession choice. The aim of this work is to map out social and personal aspects of the first stage of a professional orientation. External (social) and internal (personal) categories are very close, they influence each other and they are affected by many conditions. The task of a part of this work was to record differences in chosen variabilities of adolescents in individual school grade s and to map some differences in the results of Ms Gabrielová research from 1991. In an empirical retrospective study we tried to explain casual nexus on the basis of a quantitative data processing. A statistical selective group was made up by 422 respondents-students of three medical schools who attended a full-time nurse study in an academic year 2003/2004. Intra-research we produced a new implement called A questionnaire for students of secondary medical schools. Our research verified the principle hypothesis which conserned more general relations and inc1uded more partial hypothesis. External and internal factors intervene in a choice of a secondary medical school and a nurse profession at students of secondary medical schools. We could divide our respondents in two groups. The first half of them we considered as stronger motivated ones for studying and further for...

Important aspect of this work is also the time and place where the story took place - that thus the system of socialist public healt. In my work I also investigate how this system functioned gender norms and stereotypes, if and to what extent this might afect by this woman. Method which I chose for my work is Oral History. I work with a narrative interview. It means telling, which I than subsequently sorting, analyze and interpret. Method Oral History suits well my goal, that means to provide a specific woman the possibility of tansmission of her life experience. As a unique, unrepeatable, most important moment in my work I consider nonsuch storyteller lady Květuše Musilová. We can look, into her world of subjective perceptions and strategies, which this woman in the social reality, framed by a particular profession and time, lived through. What her approach would mean from the perspective of feminist reflection I deal with at the end of my work. This...

Hospice care provided in the Hospice of St. John N. Neumann and its potentials
SIXLOVÁ, Iveta
In theoretical part there is general characteristic of hospice care and also historical excursion, which involves development of forms of the care about heavily ill and dying people and this part is also about development of the hospice itself. Next chapter is dedicated to the selected ethical aspects of hospice care, also involving problematic of the euthanatical tendencies and knowledgeable acceptance. Following chapter generally summarizes diagnostic and indicational groups of patients for whom is hospice care suitable. Necessary part is dedicated to palliative medicine as one of the major principals of hospice care. Next chapter revolves about individual forms of hospice care, next chapter about multidisciplinary team in hospice care and the last chapter is dedicated to the Hospice of St. John Nepomuk Neumann in Prachatice. Hospice care is specialized form of the professional care about patients in terminal phase of sickness, it is focusing on providing all of the bio-psycho-socio-spiritual needs of the patients to support them and also to support their families and loved ones. Roots of this care come from the respect for human being as the beautiful creature, it insists on maintaining human dignity and the highest possible quality of life for patients. The historical development starts in the middle ages from the different forms of charity care about old and sick people, later because of the fast development of curative medicine the crucial thing was to find alternative ways of patient care for the people that could not be helped. Current state of the hospice care is considered as the full form of specific professional care about dying people. Basic principle of hospice care is palliative medicine which can be applied even outside the hospices. Forms of hospice care are: bed hospice care, home hospice care, respite forms of care and also ambulatory forms and different types of care centers. Last two forms are not actually used at this time in the Czech republic, but from the experiences from abroad results that they are useful. Cooperation in the multidisciplinary team is also very important. That team consists of experts from different fields of expertise but also of the volunteers. The Hospice of St. John Nepomuk Neumann in Prachatice provides specialized care on 30 beds, provides proffesional social counseling whose part are also loans of mobility aids. Providing services of home hospice care has been currently stopped, but the day care is fully functional. Hospice also trains both experts and ordinary people. The goal of this paper is to chart current state of provided care and to create suggestion its development/improvement. In this paper is used qualitative research. Examined object is Hospice of St, John Nepomuk Neumann in Prachatice for purposes of this reasearch represented by the leader of Education centre, expert social consultant Mgr. Eva Předotová and by the nurse formerly providing home care and now bed hospice care Kateřina Stropková. Based on these semi-structured interviews and analysis of documents I created occupational SWOT analysis and from that I created proposal of service development. This proposal was consulted with director of the hospice PhDr. Robert Huneš. This research revealed that the big obstacle is little awareness about that by the doctors and their reluktance to recommend hospice care to the patients. That might be the reason for the lack of clients and shortening the period of stay in hospice. These two phenomenons are at the moment considered to be the biggest problem. Financial insecurity and insufficient legislative basis leads to negative impact. This paper might serve for the Hospice of St. John Nepomuk Neumann as basics for planning next development of provided services.

Diploma thesis "A nurse doesn't have to be a woman" focuses on men's experience in feminised occupations which are connected with the notion of women, particularty it is focused on nurses. In theoretical and conceptual part I present basic concepts, which this thesis relies on and I write about labour market. In empirical part I conducted six semi-structured interviews with men who work, worked as a nurse or study to become one. In these interviews I was looking for gender constructions and associations that are connected with being men in "typically women's" occupation. The questions I asked were about the motivation to choose this occupation, how these men are approached, what reactions do they experience, what benefits and obtacles they deal with, how do people call them. Most importantly I was interested in men's own experience and perceptions connected to their position of men in feminised occupation. Key words: nurse, labour market, gender segregation of labour, feminization, masculinity
