Hong Kong Economic Development: From the Beginning of the Reform Process in the PRC to the Creation of the Special Administrative Region of the PRC (1979-1997)
Vilt, Lukáš ; Skřivan, Aleš (advisor) ; Fabianková, Klára (referee)
This work deals with an economic development of Hong Kong between 1979 and 1997 and tries to find the sources and causes of rapid economic growth over this period. Major hypothesis of this paper is that amongst the dominant influences of this economic growth belong low regulations and weak state interventions in the market, which are linked with the size of the public sector and the tax burden, and alternative form of banking. This hypothesis has been partly proven especially in low regulations and taxes, which supported both domestic and foreign trade and enabled the further development of the banking sector. Besides the public sector and the banking, the work also deals with the development of the international trade with the focus on the commercial and financial flows between Hong Kong and the People's Republic of China. In this case the re-export of Chinese goods proved to be the key factor, on which Hong Kong increasingly profited since the half of the eighties. International trade and cooperation with the PRC has even proved as the main sources of the rapid economic growth, which was only supported by other factors.

I have selected cultural and business specialities in Canada as a objective in my work. In these days it is really necessary to know witch cultural and business dissimilarities can we meet during business negotiation. It is my hope that my work will provide aggregate information about Canadian culture and will attract more interested person. For instance: business representatives, when they want to know about the country they want to do business with, correspondence departments they have to maintain the relationship with Canadian business partners, students they want to go to Canada for holiday or at last tourists they are going to visit the country of maple leaf on their journey. In the prologue I have tried to set the goal and the structure of my work. In first and second chapter I pay attention for territorial characteristics, economic situation and foreign trade. I also have taken down a legal framework of Canada. I found out that there is huge difference among Canadian provinces. Where some business tactics will be kindly accepted as a professional, in other province can this behaviour be taken as a lack of interest or dispassionate. Third chapter provides intercultural characteristics. On models of two well known anthropologists I have tried to explain Canadian behaviour- their ways of thinking, ways of acting and why are they different from their neighbours from US. Fourth and fifth chapter deals with cultural and business dissimilarities in Canada. I have explained why is Canadian culture of business so special from other cultures. Language issue, social values or inclination to recycle and other problematic has been mentioned. The conclusion of my work has shown if I succeeded in my goals that I set in prologue. I am aware, that this topic is so extensive that I was not able to cover all of it but I hope that I have provided many useful information and knowledge about this so various region.

Fučikovský, Jan ; Strouhal, Jiří (advisor) ; Rott, Martin (referee)
This master thesis is written as a guideline for successful business expansion to Chinese market. It describes the regional characteristics, which are important in order to understand the Chinese culture, since without proper understanding of the culture, all of its aspects and concepts such as Guanxi, no foreign firm will be able to succeed in China. Apart of the cultural analysis it also deals with the theory of expansion, how to correctly approach it, what are the possible entry modes and financial sources. I used three case studies, which provide real life experience with this issue from different points of view. The practical part of the thesis is primarily focused on financial industry in China, specifically on investment funds and what should be the necessary steps for any investment fund, which would like to expand to Chinese market.

Le, Thuy Linh ; Durčáková, Jaroslava (advisor) ; Šíma, Ondřej (referee)
The bachelor thesis focuses on Chinese currency, renminbi, which has been much talked about since the outburst of the financial crisis in 2008, especially in regard with its potential reserve currency status. The main goal of this thesis is to analyze the renminbis internationalization process and its role in the international monetary system. The first part is mainly dedicated to theoretical concepts of foreign exchange reserves, currency internationalization and international reserve currency. In the second half, I firstly analyze the development of global foreign exchange reserves and its currency composition, take a closer look at the process of renminbi internationalization and changes undertaken within the country. Last chapter gives us an insight into different aspects of renminbis current path to reserve currency status. Despite the countrys active approach to internationalization, the current position of renminbi does not reflect the significance of Chinese economy in the world. It is further needed to liberalize capital controls and develop domestic financial system. But there is an effect of exogenous factors, beyond governments control, that could greatly undermine the whole process.

Listening to our mothers' minds: intercultural and intergenerational conflict in Amy Tan's writing
Lamb, Alice ; Kolinská, Klára (referee) ; Nováková, Soňa (advisor)
The notion of Chinese character being a hereditary entity that cannot be changed by any outer circumstances is a complex belief characteristic of any Chinese community both living in mainland China and in any foreign country. It is a primary factor that subconsciously prevents first generation Chinese immigrants from teaching their children Chinese language as their mother tongue and from imposing on them Chinese family traditions and rules that would apply in their home country. It is the character and its distinctive features that cause their deliberate enclosure in "ghettoes" of China Towns, forming Chinese Diasporas that prevent the immigrant parents from assimilating with their new societies. As a consequence, the second generation immigrants become double marginalised and the immigrant communities are troubled by two major contradicting forces: all Chinese immigrant parents face the problem of reconciliation with the cultural assimilation of their children and all children feel the generation gap between themselves and their conservative parents. In every Chinese community today there are thus two elements in continuous tension: the openness towards the outside world, the desire to borrow the good things and, by integrating them with ancient Chinese tradition, to enrich themselves as a result of this...

Následky čínského ekonomického působení v Subsaharské Africe
Kešelj, Nina ; Stuchlíková, Zuzana (advisor) ; Pavlík, Petr (referee)
There has been a significant upsurge in the Sino-African economic cooperation from the turn of the century. The master thesis analyzes the impacts of the growing role of China in the Sub-Saharan region in an attempt to determine, if it contributes to economic growth and development of the regional economies. In order to unpack the potential outcomes of the expanding Sino-African economic cooperation, Chinese trade and outward foreign investment are analyzed in terms of structure, dynamics and geographic distribution. Where possible, the thesis provides a comparison with the practices of the traditional partners, mainly Western European countries and the United States, in order to determine, if China represents a genuinely different partner that contributes to development of the region, or its activities are no more than a mere continuation of the little successful practices of the traditional partners. As the motives of the Chinese presence in the continent have considerably changed over time, the thesis concentrates on the period of 2000s, providing an insight into most significant changes that have come with the Chinese 'going-out' strategy initiated in 1999. Finally, the thesis tries to identify the potential global outcomes of the intensifying South-South cooperation.
