Confrontation of work of photoeditors in selected Czech and American Newspapers

Graduation thesis entitled "Confrontation of work of photo editors in selected Czech and American periodicals" discusses the important profession of photo editors in the Czech Republic and the United States and attempts to compare it in these two different countries. In the first part I would like to briefly outline the history of photojournalism in the Czech Republic and the United States and describe the aspects which influenced it during two centuries. In the next chapter I focus on notions, since not everyone is familiar with the position and powers of newspaper photo editors, and the types of photographs the journalism operates with. Here I explain the emergence of the profession which is much younger than actual photojournalism. In the research section I want to - through the use of interviews with several professional photographers and photo editors - explain the various procedures and newsroom routines. I focus mainly on the habits and processes, that go before the capturing the photograph, and subsequent decision-making process in selecting images for the newspapers. I also briefly compare the problems of education and training in the field of visual journalism. Key moments in the life of Martin Luther King Jr. in the 1960's and their reflection in contemporary Czech Slovak media

The bachelor thesis is about the portrayal of four key moments in the life of Martin Luther King, Jr. in contemporary Czechoslovak media in the 1960's. We picked three main contemporary dailies: Rudé právo, Svobodné slovo and Mladá fronta. We analyzed the following events: the march on Washington on August 28th, 1963, the announcement of the Nobel Peace Prize laureates on October 14th, 1964 and the ceremony on December 11th, 1964, the so-called Bloody Sunday on March 7th, 1965 and the following march on March 21st, 1965 and the assassination on Martin Luther King, Jr. on April 4th, 1968. The analysis includes texts that were published one week before the event and two weeks after it. With this interval, it is possible to cover the main texts about the event and consequential events. The thesis compares the objective portrait made by contemporary and present history sources and the contemporary media portrait by analyzing the language means and resources. The aim of the thesis was to determine the difference caused by the regime control over media contents and the limitations of information resources.

Abstrakt Diplomová práce "Proměny médií v Novém Jičíně a okolí v období 1945 až 1948" pojednává o lokálních médiích, které vycházely v oblasti Novojičínska v období let 1945 až 1948. Práce se zaměřuje především na jejich podřízenost se skladbou obyvatelstva a také s politickou reprezentací. Práce se také snaží o přiblížení témat, kterým se dané lokální tiskoviny věnovaly. Na praktické ukázce titulu Nové Kravařsko je ilustrováno jak tematické zaměření titulu, tak také jeho propojení s místní politickou scénou. Na tomto příkladu je dále ilustrována proměna témat titulu a proměna stylu jednotlivých příspěvků. Práce zároveň přináší první ucelenější přehled lokálních titulů, které v oblasti vycházely v době těsně před 2. světovou válkou, až do roku 1948. Female identity in history and currently in Czech Republic

This thesis describes the development status of women in society in a historical context from the Middle Ages until the 20th century. It acquaints us with the rights to which women in the 19th and 20th centuries were acquired. This work also deals with current issues of women in entering the labor market, and describes the forms of discrimination that women face. The theoretical part is also elaborated the topic of how perceptions of mass media on gender issues. The practical part deals with public opinion on gender issues and compares the results of data collected from the People newspaper in 2005 and 2012. Applying this methodological tool was a questionnaire and content analysis.
Metaphor in the French Sports Terminology

The aim of this work is to describe the concept of metaphors and classify metaphors found in the articles of French sports newspapers. The work is divided in two parts theoretical and practical. The theoretical part deals with the creation and use of metaphors with brief reference to journalistic-style writing. In the practical part, an analysis of metaphors and their origins will be carried out.
The fight against anti-Semitism on the pages of the Tribune in 1919-1924

The work examines the texts that came out from 1919 to 1924 in Tribuna newspapers and determines if the authors wrote abouth anti-Semitism and how they informed about activity of the Jewish movement. Journal was founded by members of the Czech Jewish movement. The first part of my work describes the beginning of the first period of the Czechoslovak Republic from the perspective of the Jewish community. The second part brings the articles published in the Tribuna on the basis of research in historical copies.
Blesk brand marketing strategy

The thesis deals with marketing strategy of Blesk daily in economically difficult year 2009. Presents main marketing activities, market of the daily newspaper and the competitors in this area. The main goal is to analyze marketing strategy of Blesk brand and to determine the main targets of the marketing activities.It contains an evaluation of these activities in terms of effectiveness and recommendations for improving the marketing work in the company using SWOT analysis and proposed changes in marketing activities for the following year.
Marketing of HN, LN, MF DNES and Právo

This thesis deals with marketing of the serious Czech newspapers (HN, LN, MF DNES and Právo) with a focus on possible models of their brand valuation. The main goal of this work is a marketing analysis of the four subjects using the electronic data sources. The analysis includes basic information about the publishers, their property relations and economic results for the period from 2005 to 2009. After that follows the introduction of the studied newspapers, including their content description, readers profile and new technologies. The aim of the practical part is also to choose appropriate method for evaluating the brands of the dailies. It was performed an external, financial and SWOT analysis to ensure correct application of the approach. Valuation results showed that the highest financial value has the brand Mladá Fronta DNES, the second is Právo, followed by Hospodářské noviny and Lidové noviny.
Analysis of ability to compete between printed and electronic media

This thesis deals with currently discussed question of survivance of printed media in position of being drawed by new media, mainly by internet. Trend appearing in advanced countries is falling reading, sale and advertising. That cause increasing problems of their publishers. Thesis responds the question whether the internet is the culprit or the financial crisis is. These are the most appointed causes. Thesis firstly acquaints the reader with present situation on the market of printed and electronic publications. Then is looking at appointed area with SLEPTE analysis used in strategic management. Finally complement problems with situation abroad and compile analysis of customer expectations. That is form by questionnaire inquiry and by interview with branch specialist. Technological factors of SLEPTE analysis is compile minutely like the answer for secondary aim of thesis. That is try to fully collect different publication forms of reporting the content through the internet. In reality, set all possible ways how publishers offer their content to customers.
