Elimination of Barriers in Programmes of Czech Television for People with a Hearing Disability

(in English): This bachelor thesis deals with closed subtitles as a means to remove barriers in terms of access to programmes broadcasted by Czech Television for viewers with hearing disabilities. The theoretical part provides a general view at the target audience and their communication specifics that may affect their closed subtitles usage. Attention is also paid to the statutory framework which sets out the obligation to provide a certain percentage of broadcasted programmes with closed subtitles and to the extent of fulfillment of the legal obligations. The possibilities of providing pre-recorded programmes with closed subtitles are discussed as well. The practical part reports a research probe focused on the satisfaction of hearingimpaired viewers with services of Czech Television.
Copyright in the aspects of television broadcasting

This thesis deals with copyright issue in the field of television broadcasting. Regarding the topic extend, the thesis does not examine all the issues down to the least detail. Neither it mentions sociological aspects of the legal matter, nor elaborates findings from the field of media communication and television production. The submitted text tries in nine chapters to present a summarising insight into copyright from the view of television production as per legal status on June 30th 2011. First, the analysis of the valid right is carried out by means of interpretation, grammar- language, word meaning (semantic), systematic, theological, logical and historical methods. The findings gained are then processed by means of a comparative method. However, the text also takes into consideration former copyright regulations as well as relevant provisions of the international copyright and EU law. A great attention is paid to doctrinal interpretations and to judicature in the limited extend as well.
Digitizing of video and radio broadcasting in the Czech republic

Cílem bakalářské práce je podat ucelený přehled procesu digitalizace televizního a rozhlasového vysílání v České republice. V úvodu jsou vysvětleny základní pojmy. V druhé kapitole je pojednáno o televizi jako novém médiu a o funkci médií ve společnosti. Třetí kapitola je věnována standardům a specifikacím digitálních zařízení. Jsou zde popsány televizní normy, rozdíl mezi HDTV a SDTV. Jsou také popsány možnosti příjmu vysílání v HD kvalitě a interaktivní služby. Čtvrtá kapitola je věnována institucionálnímu zabezpečení digitalizace - konkrétně Českému telekomunikačnímu úřadu, Radě pro rozhlasové a televizní vysílání a Národní koordinační skupině. American late-night talk show

This thesis focuses on the history of talk show in USA with emphasis on its specific form, which is late-night talk show. The first chapter focuses on the creation of new television networks and the overall state of american broadcasting during the first era of the television talk show format. The thesis briefly describes radio broadcasting which served not only as an important source of inspiration for television but also as a starting platform for most talk show hosts. Next chapter theoretically approaches talk show as a format and establishes some of the important aspects that a talk show should fulfill. This chapter is followed by a historical insight into how talk show has evolved from the early fifties until the dawn of a new millennium. It is separated into several time periods, each of which are characterized by particular television personalities, as well as examples of important talk shows that had a greater impact on the talk show as a format. The last chapter focuses on analyzing several late-night talk shows that are still on air. These talk shows are - Late Show with David Letterman, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, Late Night with Jimmy Fallon and Chelsea Lately. The thesis "Media Regulation and its Representation in Czech Newspapers from 1991 until 2011" concerns in its theoretical part with legal regulation of media in the Czech Republic, in particular with regulation of three basic media sectors - press, radio and television broadcasting and internet. It defines basic statutes in the scope of media law and analyzes the most important legal provisions, including the activity of regulatory bodies. Furthermore, the thesis compares the Czech regulation of media with regulation in selected foreign countries. Their selection and categorization is based on three media systems as defined in the book of Daniel C. Hallin and Paolo Mancini "Comparing Media Systems". In the second part, the thesis concerns with practical analysis of media content of two Czech dailies MF Dnes and Právo in the period from 1991 until 2011. The analysis deals with articles which are somehow connected to the issue of broadcasting and press media regulation. It tries to deduce how the dailies present media regulation and if emphasizing of particular topics could influence legislative acts regulating media. Legal Regulation of the Radio and Television Broadcast in the Czech Republic

The thesis Legal Regulation of the Radio and Television Broadcast in the Czech Republic deals with an analysis and description of relevant legal regulations applicable in the area of broadcasting and television in the Czech Republic and with a closer insight in the main legal institutes and entities. A theoretically-juridical opening is followed by an introduction of the Czech Republic and European Union legal systems. The core of the thesis is the main topic, which is the legal regulation of the radio and television broadcasting in the Czech Republic. This part is opened by a short historical abstract followed by chapters dedicated to particular legal regulations. The Broadcasting Act, the Act on Czech Television, the Czech Television Code, the Act on Czech Radio, the Czech Radio Code and the Act on Audio Visual Media Services upon Request are described in individual chapters. The closing part is dedicated to some of the legal regulations and their provisions that are more remotely related to the subject. Individual chapters describe relevant legal institutes of the Act on Advertising Regulation, the Advertising Council Code of Ethics, the Consumer Protection Act, the Commercial Code and the Civil Code.
The Onset of Normalisation in the Czechoslovak Television

This thesis tackles the onset of normalisation in Czechoslovak Television between 1969-1975. Firstly the author introduces the reader to the subject through the historical context. Above all, the thesis focuses on dramatic changes that affected Czechoslovak Television in that era. Further, the thesis is dedicated to one of main players and representatives of normalisation in Czechoslovak media, general director of Czechoslovak Television Jan Zelenka, who remained in office between years 1969 and 1989. The author uses not only published sources, but also internal documents and databases of Czechoslovak Television and documents from the National Archive. In the analytical part of the thesis the author describes the function and structure of Ideological Thematic Plans which served as a foundation document for the TV broadcasting for one year to the next. Using the Ideological Thematic Plan of 1973 the author analyses their content. The author carries out an in-depth analysis of three TV programmes chosen from the Ideological Thematic Plan of 1973. These programmes represent three different genres - a broadcast targeting the young Through Young Eyes (Mladýma očima), a television series of nine episodes Mother (Matka), and a feature film, And Give My Love to the Swallows (…a pozdravuj vlaštovky)....

Quality measurement of analog and digital terrestrial television broadcasting

This bachelor‘s thesis deals with the description of basic features of the analog and digital television broadcasting and suggestion of a method for objective video quality evaluation at both broadcasting types. The base of this thesis is description of picture broadcast technology in analog and digital form. Also principles of some video quality evaluation metrics are described. In this thesis, a method for video quality comparison is suggested, including a verifying of this method. According to this method, sequences at changing broadcasting conditions were recorded for both broadcasting types. The quality factors of these sequences were computed and on the basis of these factors, the analog and digital TV broadcasting were compared.

This diploma thesis focuses on the additional services transmitted in conjunction with television broadcast. The first part presents the background research in the evolution of these technologies. In the second part the step-by-step creation of a sample application based on the latest HbbTV platform is dealt with. Finally, the described application demonstrates the streaming possibilities of audiovisual content on the TV screen.
