The influence of electronic distribution of periodicals on print journalism
Miklica, Tomáš ; Jirků, Jan (advisor) ; Čermák, Miloš (referee)
The bachelor thesis named The influence of electronic distribution of periodicals on print journalism deals with the specifics of electronic distribution, its position among other new media and its relation towards traditional media. This document focuses mainly on the question whether electronic distribution while combining principles of both internet and print journalism can influence the future of print media - its form or even existence. Other hypothesis presented by this document inspects the possibility of utilizing an electronic periodical for saving an unprofitable print version of given periodical - film monthly Svět filmu is used as an example. Both principles of electronic distribution and Svět filmu functioning are being inquired with support of depth interviews with major Czech electronic distribution services representatives and Svět filmu representatives respectively. In addition this work offers a overview of Czech electronic distribution services and examples of digital periodicals. In order to provide complete context a brief description of situation of electronic distribution in other countries is included and listed hypotheses are supplemented by interviews-based prognostic speculations concerning electronic distribution's future and impact on print distribution.
Adaptation of television to new media principles
Soukup, Norbert ; Miessler, Jan (advisor) ; Štoll, Martin (referee)
This paper focuses on the changes in distribution of television content which emerged during the process of convergence between television and digital media. Nowadays it is possible not only to access television broadcasting online, but also to access individual programs through Video on Demand services. The precondition this topic was picked on is that the very existence of such services has a direct impact on the form of today's television broadcasting. Therefore the aim of this paper is to examine and describe alterations which can be found not only in the broadcasting itself but also in receiving of that broadcasting on television screens. The latter can be affected by the existence of HbbTV. The analysis and description of changes in broadcasting and receiving television content in Czech republic are the primary focuses of this paper.
Impact of Modernization on Consumption in Russia
Kalinichev, Klim ; Cahlík, Tomáš (advisor) ; Pertold-Gebicka, Barbara (referee)
This study examines the various effects of socioeconomic indicators related to modernization on four different shares of consumption expenditures in Russia at the household level over 2004-2018 using fixed-effects, random-effects, and GMM panel data estimators. The results present that socioeconomic indicators have an impact on the level of household expenditures, although this effect is not very strong for some variables. It was found that urbanization has a positive impact on the household expenditures on restaurants, and education is positively linked with expenses on recreation and culture. Unanticipated outcomes are associated with the effect of income on expenditures on education and consumption of food. Additionally, more significant effects have been discovered that influence the shares of household expenditures. The evidence obtained from this research contributes to the existing literature on modernization and socioeconomic indicators that influence final household consumption.
Homoploid hybrid speciation in closely related taxa of wetland plants
Píšová, Soňa
6 Summary Wetland plants share several common characters, such as clonality, wind pollination and self-compatibility that facilitate hybridization, especially in complexes of closely related taxa. In this thesis, a Sparganium erectum complex of four subspecies and 14 species of the genus Bolboschoenus were investigated to detect hybridization and verify the origins of putative hybrids. The first part of the thesis is dedicated to an introduction to hybridization, a process of great evolutionary impact, and its several general consequences, which are broadly discussed with numerous examples. In addition, an introduction to the studied taxa is provided as well as the main results of three papers that are presented and discussed herein. The second part of the thesis consists of three papers on hybridization within the Sparganium erectum aggregate (Paper I) and in the genus Bolboschoenus (Paper II, central European species; Paper III all 14 species worldwide). AFLP molecular marker analysis, sequencing of nuclear and chloroplast DNA, and genome size and morphometric analyses were applied to elucidate the genetic relationships among taxa and to confirm the suitability of morphometric characters for taxa and hybrid delimitation. The results clearly present the differentiation of individual taxa and their stable...

This study captures and describes current trends of political communication with an emphasis on the use of social media as an influential tool used for sharing content for the general and professional public. In this case, the focus is on internet communication of the Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babiš. The emphasis is to examine social media as a part of media routines and its role in the concept of gatekeeping and subsequent creation of the news and opinion journalistic content. The research part of this thesis consists of three segments and focuses on the process of using social media as a source of information. The main research method is quantitative research supplemented by a questionnaire. The research was conducted to find out what informational value the social media of Andrej Babiš's have.
Krylov Subspace Methods - Analysis and Application
Gergelits, Tomáš ; Strakoš, Zdeněk (advisor) ; Farrell, Patrick (referee) ; Herzog, Roland (referee)
Title: Krylov Subspace Methods - Analysis and Application Author: Tomáš Gergelits Department: Department of Numerical Mathematics Supervisor: prof. Ing. Zdeněk Strakoš, DrSc., Department of Numerical Mathematics Abstract: Convergence behavior of Krylov subspace methods is often studied for linear algebraic systems with symmetric positive definite matrices in terms of the condition number of the system matrix. As recalled in the first part of this thesis, their actual convergence behavior (that can be in practice also substantially affected by rounding errors) is however determined by the whole spectrum of the system matrix, and by the projections of the initial residual to the associated invariant subspaces. The core part of this thesis investigates the spectra of infinite dimensional operators −∇ · (k(x)∇) and −∇ · (K(x)∇), where k(x) is a scalar coefficient function and K(x) is a symmetric tensor function, preconditioned by the Laplace operator. Subsequently, the focus is on the eigenvalues of the matrices that arise from the discretization using conforming finite elements. Assuming continuity of K(x), it is proved that the spectrum of the preconditi- oned infinite dimensional operator is equal to the convex hull of the ranges of the diagonal function entries of Λ(x) from the spectral decomposition K(x) =...
Digitization and the Internet - disruptive technologies of television broadcasting
Bauerová, Bianka ; Jirák, Jan (advisor) ; Štoll, Martin (referee)
The diploma thesis Digitization and the Internet - Disruptive Technologies of Television Broadcasting discusses the changes in television forms. Emphasis is placed on the transformation of the market in the form of digitization, which subsequently also led to the intensive distribution of data within the Internet environment. The introductory part of the thesis is arched with theoretical support from the sides of economic and media approaches to the process of change. Their central motif deals with innovation or remediation. A closer description of the technologies themselves and their properties is not omitted either. Thanks to a closer description of the technologies themselves and their properties, it is possible to define the existence of imaginary boundaries of television. The second part of the work focuses specifically on the Czech landscape. It deals with the current state of legislation and the non-linear functions that the Internet has brought to television screens. At the practical level, the thesis focuses on alternative forms of television distribution in the Internet environment. The aim is to present the typical features and innovative elements of the disrupting technology of television broadcasting, which were defined in the theoretical part, on the example of the selected VOD...
Evolution of link layer loop prevention protocols
Březina, Jiří ; Frolka, Jakub (referee) ; Slavíček, Karel (advisor)
This bachelor thesis deals with the possibility of eliminating and creation loops on theData Link layer of the OSI model. At first, it was necessary to determine what arethe loops and how they are formed. Then the solution of the problem with loops waspresented as the Spanning Tree protocol, where did the protocol come from, protocoloperation, his advantages and disadvantages. In next section were discussed other vari-ants of original STP, as well as his alternatives, like for example the TRILL or the SPBprotocol. The practical part of this work is based on the theoretical and shows howSpanning Tree protocols work in practice on real devices. This part is mainly focusedto testing the speed of convergence each of protocols and also their extensions. In theend is mentioned a laboratory task, which is part of the appendices and forms the mainbenefit of the whole thesis, because future students at school subject “network architec-ture” can try to configure protocols that was mentioned above and better understandhow these protocols work.
Multilevel methods
Vacek, Petr ; Strakoš, Zdeněk (advisor) ; Pultarová, Ivana (referee)
The analysis of the convergence behavior of the multilevel methods is in the literature typically carried out under the assumption that the problem on the coarsest level is solved exactly. The aim of this thesis is to present a description of the multilevel methods which allows inexact solve on the coarsest level and to revisit selected results presented in literature using these weaker assumptions. In particular, we focus on the derivation of the uniform bound on the rate of convergence. Moreover, we discuss the possible dependence of the convergence behavior on the mesh size of the initial triangulation. 41
Selected Late Night Shows as a Source of Information and their Convergence with Journalistic practice
Pecháček, Václav ; Moravec, Václav (advisor) ; Lokšík, Martin (referee)
This master's thesis focuses on the relationship between late night shows, a specific type of talk show popular mainly in the United States of America, and journalism. It primarily aims to reveal the details behind the convergence of these shows and journalism, find out how this convergence manifests and how significant it is. The thesis describes the history and the present of these shows, including their function as an important information source for the American public. The thesis then clarifies the influence of satire and infotainment in the American media landscape and defines some of the most important journalistic methods and genres. It deals with the concepts of investigative, explainer and constructive journalism. The thesis then examines, using both qualitative and quantitative analysis, three late night shows: Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, The Daily Show with Trevor Noah and The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. In these three case studies, methods and genres used by these shows are examined, and it is shown how they deliver information to the viewer and what kind of information it is. The thesis also, if possible, assigns each of the shows to the overarching concepts. Finally, the shows are compared, and the thesis determines the rate of their convergence with journalistic...
