Abstract
The
thesis
deals
with
the
energy
security
of
the
United
States
of
America
at
the
beginning
of
the
21st
century.
The
first
part
of
the
thesis
identifies
energy
security
as
a
relatively
new
concept
in
political
discourse,
whose
meaning
is
not
yet
firmly
defined.
The
goal
of
this
part
is
therefore
to
refine
the
definition
of
energy
security
using
an
analysis
of
the
content
of
relevant
academic
sources.
The
second
part
of
the
thesis
focuses
specifically
on
the
situation
of
the
United
States
of
America.
It
identifies
the
challenges
to
energy
security
the
country
faces,
mainly
the
high
level
of
dependence
on
petroleum
products,
and
provides
an
overview
of
available
solutions.
The
third
part
is
a
case
study
that
deals
with
the
presidential
election
campaign
of
2008.
This
campaign
took
place
during
a
period
of
extremely
high
energy
prices,
and
the
energy
security
proposals
made
by
the
major
candidates

Perception of U. S. Foreign Policy in the era of Bill Clinton in Bosnia and Herzegovina through American press

The main purpose of this master's thesis is to describe and analyze the opinions of a several selected journalists, associated with the The New York Times, on participation the official policy of the United States in the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina (1992- 1995). On the basic of texts of several outstanding personalities of American journalism the early 90s, the thesis presents a picture of how this conflict resonated in one of the most popular American journals and primarily how journalists evaluated the policy of president Bill Clinton and his National Security Council in the Balkans. Besides this main practical part, which includes an overview of the every single journalists and political position of The New York Times, the thesis is also dedicated to the overall nature of foreign policy of W. J. Clinton and George Bush sr., background of Bosnian conflict and detailed summary of events in wartime Bosnia with a strong emphasis on the participation of the White House.

US lobbyists in the EU: significance of home country regulation for lobbying behaviour in a less regulated environment

Diploma thesis "US lobbyists in the EU: significance of home country regulation for lobbying behaviour in a less regulated environment" tackles the topic of lobbying in terms of comparing two differently regulated environments and the behaviour of lobbyists in these environments. In the introduction, the thesis analyses the current definitions and theoretical anchoring of the expert debate on lobbying, attempts to define this concept and to determine the basic research characteristics. The thesis attempts to describe why lobbying should be regulated and how is affected by lobbying transparency enhancement debate. Subsequently, the thesis describes and compares the regulation of lobbying in the United States and the European Union, while also taking into account international standards. The empirical part of the thesis is based on data provided by the American research center "Center for Responsive Politics". From this basic dataset, the companies and associations that lobby in the United States and the European Union, in particular, their basic documents and websites, are then researched based on established criteria. The Clean War Concept as a Part of United States of America Foreign Policy 1989-2001

The Master's thesis "The Clean War Concept as a Part of American Foreign Policy 1989-2001" deals with the influence of the Clean War Concept, the unwillingness of the U.S. public and politicians to risk the loss of life among members of the American armed forces, and the deployment of U.S. military missions abroad. The aim of the thesis is to verify this concept. The research examines the conditions in five selected U.S. deployments and consequent comparisons with the Clean War Concept. The selected deployments share in common the possibility that U.S. soldiers were in danger of being killed. The deployments took place between 1989 and 2001. This era, which, from an international relations perspective, can be seen as relatively homogenous, is characterized by U.S. dominance. The work includes a brief historical overview of U.S. deployments during the Cold War period and the Vietnam War in particular because the Clean War Concept was conceived as a consequence of this deployment. The thesis explains the relationship between the Revolution in military affairs in favor of the Clean War Concept, and argues that the concept allows for U.S. deployments abroad that are in accordance with it.

Legal protection of databases in the Czech Republic and in the United States

1 Abstract and keywords Legal protection of databases in the Czech Republic and in the United States This rigorous work analyses the legal protection of databases in the Czech Republic, as well as in the European Union and the United States. It comprehensively summarizes the regulation of database protection in these legal environments. The first part is devoted to the explanation of the concept of database and the possible division of databases to ensure a comprehensive understanding of database issues. The next part deals with international regulations and its development. The most important legislation in the database law in the Czech Republic is the one from the European Union level, which has unified the central copyright protection of databases. The work therefore discusses in detail the circumstances of the adoption of this legislation, its transposition into the national regulations of the Member States, the legislation itself and its individual instruments. This part addresses the use of the case law of the Court of Justice of the European Union and the courts of the Member States. This section offers overview of the evaluation of this legislation by the European Commission. The Role of the Senate Filibuster in the US Political System

This thesis deals with legislative obstruction in the United States Senate. It presents the filibuster as one of the key procedural tools in the hands of a legislative minority during the consideration of legislative proposals, presidential nominations and international treaties. At first it presents the main theoretical approaches to the topic and the historical development of Senate procedures. A key theme of the work is the necessity to distinguish between formal and informal provisions that determine how Senate business is conducted, since the formal text of the Standing Rules of the Senate is rutinely bypassed by alternative strategies. The last part of the thesis confronts the existing theoretical approaches with the important procedural changes of the last several years and assesses whether these models are still valid in light of the new Senate procedures.

The dynamics of Poland-U.S. security relations: motivation for cooperation and current developments

The subject of this diploma thesis is the topic of Poland-United States bilateral relations, the form of which results, among other things, from the geographical location and historical experience of Poland. This bilateral cooperation has a major impact on events in the region, making it a very relevant topic to explore in the light of current developments on the international scene. The work is conducted in the form of a case study and its purpose is to analyse the dynamics of Poland-United States cooperation, while the basic premise of the research is the asymmetric form of Polish-U.S. bilateral relations. The aim is to point out that relations between Warsaw and Washington are, by their development and current form, based on consensus rather than coercion from the position of a stronger partner. Glenn H. Snyder's alliance security dilemma is used in this work to analyse the dynamics, too. Due to the conceptualization of strategic culture as a context of strategic behaviour, the work also provides a relatively detailed insight into Polish strategic culture, which serves as a tool for better understanding of Polish foreign policy, security priorities and thus motivation to maintain significant relations with the United States.
