Exhibition versus "exhibitioning". The Czechoslovak pavilions at Expo 1967 in Montreal and Expo 1970 in Osaka
Nekvindová, Terezie ; Klimešová, Marie (advisor) ; Šetlík, Jiří (referee) ; Švácha, Rostislav (referee)
The paper focuses on the Czechoslovak pavilions at the 1967 and 1970 World Expos. Both events took place in the period around 1968, when, however briefly, the Czechoslovak visual arts partially overlapped with the state's cultural policy. The pavilions (especially at Expo 70) also reflected the socio- political contexts of the year 1968.. In Czechoslovakia towards the end of the 1960s, the purpose of "exhibitioning" - i.e., the state-sponsored exhibition trade - was to communicate with the public and to (re)present the country abroad. Its main goal was to promote and spread the ruling ideology. On the other hand, the Czechoslovak visual arts scene was beginning to consciously work with the medium of the exhibition as a comprehensively composed unit, either through innovative exhibition design and installation or through installation art. While the exhibition trade reached its high point in the 1960s and began to disintegrate into rigid mannerism towards the end of the decade, real experiments with the format of the art exhibition were just beginning. This study focuses on the question of how these two fields (art and the exhibition trade) approached the medium of the exhibition in the 1960s. I study the Czechoslovak pavilions as a cultural artifact in which aesthetic, social, political, and economic forces...

To protect them, the system of state preservation care has been established, the part of which are the Czech Ministry of culture, the Regional Councils' and Municipalities' with extended scope of authority Branches of Historical Sights Care and the National Historical Sights Institute. Nevertheless, the problem is that despite existing extensive system of state historical sights care there are cases of protection failure and progressive devastation and extinction of many cultural sights. The similar failures occur in Poland and Slovakia as well. The objective of this diploma thesis is to find out whether the present system of the sights care in the Czech Republic and comparable systems in the neighbouring countries - Poland and Slovakia secure the sufficient care of the cultural heritage, or if there are alternatives in organization of this area of the state administration. Subsequently, according to the available information it will be considered which of the systems of the state sights care seems to be the most suitable and effective for the defined role and at the same time the potential risks that can be caused by the particular systems will be identified. Dušková, Zdenka ; Háva, Petr (advisor) ; Novotný, Vilém (referee)
The master's thesis "Strategic multilevel governance in cultural policy" deals with the often omitted topic of cultural policy. This field is observed from the strategic governance point of view and its position is analysed according to the levels of governance - supra-national, national, and sub-national. To explore the current state of the culture, it had to be placed into a framework forming context, where cultural policy takes place. Therefore, the analysis of this work dealt with the activities of political institutions according to the evaluation framework and with the evaluation of two specific cases of public policy documents of national and sub-national levels, including their application. Uses of Gaelic Folk Traditions in Selected Plays by W.B.Yeats, Augusta Gregory and J.M. Synge
Laurincová, Alžběta ; Wallace, Clare (advisor) ; Pilný, Ondřej (referee)
1 Summary It is the various aspects of the traditional Irish narrative - that is of a mythology or a folktale - such as old traditions of the peoples and various motifs which can be identified as the traits of the Irish literary canon that bear the greatest importance with regard to the national heritage of the Irish. It is important to focus upon that issue and analyze it more profoundly through the works of the earliest innovators in the genre. With regard to that, it must be said that the most striking significance can definitely be granted to the first representatives of the genre of mythology or a folktale who actively took part in the process called "Celtic" or "Gaelic Renaissance," that means to William Butler Yeats, John Millington Synge and Lady Augusta Gregory. In the thesis their works are analyzed closely and the traditional motifs and other literary means of representing the national heritage of the Irish are revealed. In this respect, the following works of theirs are in question: Deirdre by W. B. Yeats, Deirdre of the Sorrows by J. M. Synge and a chapter from Cuchulain of Muirthemne, "Fate of the Sons of Usnach," by Lady Gregory. Before the actual analysis of the concrete works several key terms are explained as well, to enable the reader to recognize the context and to acquaint themselves...
