Three essays on Joseph Stiglitz, information asymmetry, and credit rationing
Pospíšil, Martin ; Mertlík, Pavel (advisor) ; Čech, Jan (referee)
This thesis contains three essays related to the work of economist Joseph Stiglitz. The first essay describes the contribution of Stiglitz to economic theory by analysing problems of information asymmetry, new Keynesian and institutional economics, rationality, and market theories. Shortcomings of neoclassical economics are described and possible solutions are outlined. The last part of this essay summarizes the main critique of Stiglitz's work. The second essay applies the topic of information asymmetry by discussing whether the current level of economic development leads to convergence or divergence in the technology and information levels. The conclusion is that even though globalisation affects the level of technology and information, we do not see convergence as predicted by several theoretical models and information asymmetry remains an important element in the economy. The last essay links the Stiglitz-Greenwald theory of credit rationing using recent Czech data from years 2007-2009. Data confirm that credit rationing increases, information asymmetry increases, and the transmission mechanism does not function well during economic decline. I conclude that Czech banks increase their screening of clients and consequently credit rationing in the times uncertainty leading to ambiguous development...

Molecular mechanisms regulating participation of neural crest on developmental processes and homeostasis in selected localizations
Krejčí, Eliška ; Grim, Miloš (advisor) ; Hampl, Aleš (referee) ; Jendelová, Pavla (referee)
This PhD thesis focuses on the study of neural crest (NC) properties and mechanisms regulating its development. It is based on four original papers, two of which are wholy concerning NC. In the first project we showed that transcription factor C-MYB is expressed in majority of cells in the developing chick embryo. Its expression level is elevated in neural folds and migrating NC cells. Other experiments showed that this elevated level of intracellular c-Myb influences induction and epithelial-mesenchymal transformation of NC cells, and that c-Myb lies within the BMP4 signalling cascade. In the second project we explored the spatio-temporal specification along the antero-posterior axis of the limb bud - a mechanism significantly regulating also NC development. We showed that deletion of regulatory element of Plzf transcription repressor gene caused decrease of Plzf expression in the limb buds followed by anterior expansion of its downstream genes (Hoxd10-13) expression domains only in the hind limb, with a resulting additional finger. The third paper studies developmental origin of medial border of mammalian scapula. We showed that its cells originate from somites and not in NC. In the last project we studied NC stem cells isolated from human adult hair follicles. These cells express NC stem cell...

The limits of narrative: La última niebla - lyrical novel by María Luisa Bombal
Bahnerová, Helena ; Housková, Anna (advisor) ; Sánchez Fernández, Juan Antonio (referee)
This work focuses on finding instruments which confer a lyrical character to the novel La última niebla of the Chilean writer María Luisa Bombal. The study is based on Emil Staiger's observations about basics concepts of poetic. Specifically, the work treats his concept of lyricism. B asically, the Swiss literary theorist underscored the role of the author, which must necesarilly cancel a distance between himself and his creation in order to achieve lyrical tone. All in all, this and other informations about the lyrical prose of the 20th century prove that lyricism depends especially on the representation of the entity of narrator. María Luisa Bombal as a cosmopolitan writer managed with her production to introduce new style of writing in backward Chilean literary scene. Obvisouly, the p resence of innovative elements such as a utilization of dream poetic or natural symbology takes part in final lyrical tone of the novel La última niebla, however, the most essential renovations within her production are the specific concept of narrator and narrative perspective.

The Church of St. John of Nepomuk at Štěchovice
Fatková, Markéta ; Novotná, Eva (advisor) ; Bydžovská, Lenka (referee)
The Church of St. John of Nepomuk in Štěchovice There are not many Art Nouveau constructions in Bohemia. One of them is the Church of St. John of Nepomuk in Štěchovice designed by the architect Kamil Hilbert. Although the construction is not built in the pure Art Nouveau style, its individual parts and elements are taken over for example from the Roman or Renaissance style, it remains probably the most popular architectural example of this style. In view of this fact it is interesting that neither the church nor the builder were devoted sufficient attention in the past. There are not many sources and literature available. Experts devoted their attention to Hilbert only in connection with the preservation of monuments the modernisation of which was his merit at the beginning. Hilbert's own creation remained on the edge of the interest, be it creation dating back to the end of the 19th century or the first decades of the 20th century. The aim of my work is to inform the readers about the personality of the architect Kamil Hilbert and to depict his most important construction, the Church of St. John of Nepomuk in Štěchovice. I focused not only on the brief statement of data, but I tried to incorporate the life and creation of Hilbert also into broader connections, to mention the politic as well as...

Decoration of Prague's tenement houses in the last third of the XIXth century and the beginning of XXth century
Pelc, Vít ; Wittlich, Petr (referee) ; Prahl, Roman (advisor)
The work discribes decoration of Prague's tenement houses in the last third of the XIX.Century and the beginning of XX.Century. In the first instance it addresses questions of decoration at general level, the character and disposition of decorative elements on houses facades. Concisely it considers the materials and techniques used in the decoration of houses and it discusses usual methods of compositional solutions and disposition of decoration. Hereafter this work summarises in a brief survey the subjects of decoration in the reviewed period. Individual decorative elements may have decorative sense; otherwhile they express semantic or ideological meaning.

Novel Approaches to the Application of Electrochemical Volatile Compounds Generation in Spectrometric Methods
Červený, Václav
Various possibilities for the use of electrochemical generation of volatile compounds for the determination of trace and ultratrace quantities of elements using atomic absorption spectrometry and optical emission spectrometry, respectively, were studied in this work. The Thesis is divided into four thematic sections. Electrochemical cold mercury vapor generation is common to the first two parts. The third part is devoted to electrochemical generation of the volatile form of cadmium and the last part deals with the use of the electrochemical hydride generator as a derivatization unit for speciation analysis of arsenic compounds. The optimization of each individual determination was carried out including, for example, various designs of the generator of volatile compounds (forms) of the analyte, the changes in the design of the gas-liquid separator, optimization of the concentration and the flow rate of all the solutions and the carrier gas. However, the value of the electric current employed was the most important parameter. In the first section, the in-situ trapping system of the cold mercury vapor generated in the graphite furnace (with the inner surface covered with a gold foil) of the atomic absorption spectrometer was also designed and optimized. The absolute limit of detection, 80 pg, was...

Aggression and death in Lorca's dramatic works
Bílková, Jana ; Vydrová, Hedvika (advisor) ; Forbelský, Josef (referee) ; Sánchez Fernández, Juan Antonio (referee)
This dissertation concentrates on several special aspects of the dramatic works of Federico García Lorca. There are four dominant themes: the aggression, the death, the masculine and feminine element and the. The "material" is made up by following dramas: Bodas de sangre, Mariana Pineda, Doa Rosita la soltera, Yerma, La casa de Bernarda Alba, Amor de don Perlimplín con Belisa en su jardín, La zapatera prodigiosa. The results of the own investigation is preceded by the chapter which recapitulates the conclusions of the exploration of the themes up to the present day. This accesses are comentated: psychoanalytic method, fenomenologic and and hermeneutic method, sociocultural and anthropological method, autobiographic and hermeneutic method, folkloric and symbolic method. The first chapter which deals with the aggression in Lorca's dramatic works focuses on the malign aggression and presents the symbols and metaphors associated with the malign aggression. It comments the aggressivity and the immanency and the potenciality of the aggression. The second chapter investigates the representation of the death inklusive the symbols, images and presages of the death. A particular attention is dedicated to the types of the death, to the fatality and the parsonification of the death. The third chapter concentrated on...
