Comprehensive characterization of cellular suspensions by means of elastic light scattering
Macháň, Radek ; Štěpánek, Josef (advisor) ; Plášek, Jaromír (referee)
Studies of yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae - a model eukaryot organism - often require determining the number of cells in a suspension. One of the methods often used for studying cell suspensions is the measuring of elastic scattering of light passing through the suspensions. Usual output of those measurements is the angular dependency of the intensity of scattered light, which bears information about the size of scatterers. This thesis studies time-dependencies of the intensity of scattered light and relationship of their statistical properties to the number of scatterers in a unit volume. For this purpose a simple model was proposed, which describes the connection between this quantity for a monodisperse suspension and the dependency of standard deviation of time-behaviour of the scattered intensity on the mean value of the same time-behaviour. An apparatus for computer controlled measurements of angular and timedependencies of scattered light intensity was completed for carrying out the experiments. Elastic scattering was measured on suspensions of yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae and a model system (suspensions of 8m polymer particles). Experimental data were interpreted within the proposed model. Although yeast suspensions cannot be regarded as monodisperse, experimental data were in a good agreement with...

Sáblíková, Lucie ; Šesták, Zdeněk (referee) ; Halada, Jan (advisor)
Bachelor thesis "Celebrity marketing - Petr Čech in Česká spořitelna's campaign" deals with a quite new term from the field of marketing communication, which is celebrity marketing. Celebrity marketing can be characterized as a communication (of companies) using faces of famous people - celebrities. This thesis tries to clarify the questions of this young field, to mediate the experiences of foreign specialists, to explain basic terms and to outline possible ways of using celebrities. Part of this thesis is, of course, the evaluation of the efficiency of ads with celebrities and comparison with ads without them. I am not oblivious to the possible pitfalls, which the marketers can actually face while executing celebrity marketing. I apply gained pieces of knowledge on one concrete chosen campaign. This is a campaign of the most prominent banking institution in the Czech Republic Česká spořitelna, which cooperates with one of the most famous Czech athletes - Czech football team goalkeeper Petr Čech. In this part I first introduce both of the protagonists and then I attend to the analysis of their multi-year cooperation. Finally I deal with the evaluation of current situation on the celebrity marketing's field, with the level of using famous faces and possible future progress.

U.S. Intelligence Community Reform Post-9/11: Strengthening the U.S.'s Ability to Fight Terrorism?
Bernardyová, Alžběta ; Střítecký, Vít (advisor) ; Bureš, Oldřich (referee)
Diploma thesis "U.S. Intelligence Community Reform Post-9/11: Strengthening the U.S.'s Ability to Fight Terrorism?" examines the reform of the U.S. intelligence community after the terrorist attacks of 9/11 implemented in order to improve ability of the United States to counter terrorist threats. A simple input-output model developed within systems theory is used to evaluate the post-9/11 intelligence reform outputs on the basis of effectiveness and efficiency. The criteria of 'effectiveness' has been conceptualized as the ability of the intelligence community to prevent surprise attacks, whereas 'efficiency' has been operationalized as measures undertaken at the organizational level within the intelligence community in order to prevent terrorist attacks. The evidence presented in this thesis suggests that the U.S. intelligence community since 9/11 is mostly effective (i.e. there has not been any successful terrorist attack). However, it is not efficient due to organizational problems, which include lack of leadership, inability or unwillingness to cooperate and share information, and to provide the right incentives for current personnel and potential recruits to the intelligence community. These institutional deficiencies cause inefficiency of the intelligence community, which consequently endanger the...

Hladíková, Radka ; Gabrielová, Jarmila (referee) ; Ottlová, Marta (advisor)
The purpose of this diploma work consists both in the basic familiarity with the source, such as Broadcasting Comments for The Voice of America in 1957-72, and especially in clarification of one of many activities of Karel Boleslav Jirak's (1891-1972) during his exile period in the U.S. in 1947-72. It is Jirak's publicistic activity in cooperation with the VoA, which is still very difficult to find some information about it. In connection with the promotion problems of Czech music in America as one of the main topics of comments (The promotion of Czech music in the United States) this diploma work captures the image at the time of promotion Jirak's exile, assumed the image produced by Jirak itself. The next contribution is familiarity with the composer's own opinion or idea about that how functionality of promotion should be based.

The principal aim of this theses is to highlight the various differences in selected countries. I will also try to obtain information about the problems in communication or in the actual commercial negotiations based on the experience of workers of the RAVAK company. The first part outlines the emergence of the RAVAK company, its beginnings, the scope of foreign expansion and training of workers. Furthermore, this chapter focuses on trade fairs and exhibitions, and a financial crisis. The next seven chapters are intended to introduce a course of action in some foreign countries. I chose Russia, Lithuania, United Arab Emirates, Tunisia, China, Germany and Spain. In these chapters I will try to bring the entry of the RAVAK company into these markets, to identify any initial problems, the trade negotiations with local partners and other evidence. I will try to analyze the diversity of the cultures and behaviors in different countries. In trading on a foreign market, each firm met with culture shock, which must somehow cope. Cultural shock is a divergence in thinking and behavior of residents of other countries. These differences are described in this theses. I will try to show examples and to indicate possible solutions to various situations.
