This bachelor thesis concerns the influence of long-term stay abroad on adolescents' identity. The change of the surrounding and especially the culture is a marked interference with the individual's identity. He is found far away from all established conventions and values. His identity passes through the feeling of confusion regarding the new cultural environment. It can influence his personality though. Firstly, I deal with the conception of identity - its formation, types and research in sociology. The main part of this work introduces the analysis of a longitudinal research which I accomplished in France and Czech Republic. I describe how according to data-gathering the stay abroad influences the evolution of young people and what his concrete effect on forming identity is. I mention the main characteristics of the life abroad and consider how much they keep in touch with their culture during their stay. I discuss the change of priorities and future plans. Also I do not leave out the changes in national and ethnic identity. The most relevant part of this thesis is dedicated to the changes of personality and behavior of young people. I also summarize if those changes were intended or not and which factor did support and which slow them. In case of any changes I am interested in their length. In...
Drugs addiction and Church's position
Kalivoda, Miroslav ; Eliáš, Vojtěch (advisor) ; Kuźniar, Mariusz (referee)
English abstract This thesis is entitled "Požívání návykových látek a stanovisko církve", or, in English, "Use of Addictive Substances and Attitudes of the Church." It aims at providing - at least a limited - description of this problem, which is a negative feature of modern history of the Czech Republic. Following a shift in its political system in 1989, when a liberal capitalist system replaced a Communist system, the structure of values and the social structure of Czech society - young people in particular - changed much. Most of the data that I use apply to the Czech Republic and, to a lesser degrese, the European Union and the US. I look at these data from the perspective of the Catolic Church, that is to say, Christian ethics, morals, and the Canon law. I also examine the effect of evil with regard to this issue. The belief that the real situation of using addictive substance is very bad and extremely dangerous for the future hasproved to be correct. The Czech republic is one of the worst affected countries in Europe in term of using addictive substances (tobacco, alcohol, and illegal drugs). This is due to underestimating and taking a negligent approach to the problem in the past, among other factors. This had resulted in a rapid increase in use of these substances and in related crime. These is a...

Holá, Lucie ; Jeřábek, Hynek (advisor) ; Tuček, Milan (referee)
The diploma thesis "Gender differences in risk attitude among Czech high school students" discusses how people deal with risk in everyday life. The first part of the paper investigates the forming of risk perception, and the factors that influence the process. Social and cultural structures are of high importance, but also individual factors (such as gender or personal experiences) as well as media representation matter. Risk perception plays a key role in decision-making in situations dealing with uncertainty and the paper asserts that it is possible to model risk behaviour and make predictions accordingly. The second part of the paper presents research on risk attitudes among Czech high school students. It deals with gender differences and students' willingness to risk in three key domains: social, health and leisure time. The model used in the paper focuses on students' willingness to participate in a given activity, their perception of the probability of negative outcomes, and the degree of pleasure derived from the activity. Research indicates that a) men are more willing to risk in health and leisure time related activities, whereas women are more daring in social activities; b) students coming from academically oriented schools are more willing to risk in social activities than students...
