The effect of volunteer management professionalization level on volunteer work satisfaction

This text concentrates on volunteering in volunteer organizations. It examines the connection between volunteer management professionalization level and volunteer work satisfaction in these organizations. In the theoretical part is defined the concepts of volunteering, professionalization and satisfaction are defined and their particular aspects associated with the focus of the thesis are highlighted. The empirical part describes the construction of the research method and presents the analysis of the above-mentioned connection in several volunteering organizations with the use of this method. Professionalization in Context of Strategic Planning (Case Study - Maternity Centre)

Synopsis Professionalization of non-profit organizations means basically hiring of paid staff . Maternity centre is social space especially for mothers and their children, that rely mainly on mothers' voluntary work and is based on non-professional rather than professional principle. This case study reflects situation in which non-professional, amateur work is being replaced by hiring of paid staff and paid attention especially to an impact on internal organization's atmosphere and position of the main participants of maternity centre - mothers. The situational analysis is a partial goal of this thesis, served as a basic step not only for strategic planning but mostly for considering of accessing to professionalized organization.

Good Will in The World of Organizations Professionalization of the Olga Havel Foundation: A Case Study

The presented work aims to map the trends in the development and professionalization of foundations on the background of the civil society that was formed in the Czech Republic after 1989. It addresses the importance of endowment and appreciation of foundation assets in the long-term perspective and describes the circumstances that led to the creation of the Foundation Investment Fund (NIF). It also tries to follow the legislative and economic conditions for the development of the Czech endowment sector. In this sense the paper aims to bring some contribution to the civil society studies. Through a case study on The Committee of Good Will - The Olga Havel Foundation the thesis deals with the causes, effects and changes of the foundation's professionalization process. The research uses the means of internal and external document analysis, interviews with the foundation representatives and the method of participating observation. The effects of the professionalization process have manifested in personnel management changes (eg. recruitment of paid employees, hiring external professionals), project management changes and overall change in the scope of the foundation's activities. Care placement agencies: professionalization of care in expert systems

During last couple of decades, the paid child care has become one of the central issues of feminist research. The agencies mediating child care are relatively the new actor in child care arrangements in the Czech Republic. This MA thesis argues that they not only fill the gap in the market by offering a child care. Above all, far from providing the simple supply that reacts to the demand on the market, the agencies create the demand for specific care. Drawing upon qualitative research conducted with owners of these agencies, the text looks into the ways how the child care is constructed. The analysis consists of two parts. In the first one the agencies are understood as expert systems generating specific trust. In the second part, the issues of qualified, specialized, and professionalized care are discussed. The thesis aims at showing that child care in the agencies is deconstructed as a natural female activity and is reconstructed as a gendered activity requiring particular skills that are submitted to professional screening.

Identity formation: An example of classical singing students' community

This thesis deals with the identity formation of the members of a professional subculture. Its aim is to describe the mechanisms that contribute to the creation of a professional subculture and identity and that work within the professional socialization of individuals. The whole thesis is based on an example of a definite professional subculture which is opera singers. This means it relates to the "high" culture which is not explored nearly as much as popular culture. The author relies on the theory of subculture and identity, and on the ethnographic study of an internationally known opera company which has been already conducted. She also conducted her own research in a community of classical singing students who are preparing for careers as opera singers, using participant observation, which was supplemented by a series of semi-structured interviews. The author emphasizes practice, real ongoing interactions, and the meanings that the holders of subcultures attach to the actions around them. The thesis shows that identity is formed by discursive practices, i.e. ascription and reflection, and also through playing social roles. Legitimation and professionalization of a Romani NGO in the Czech Republic Hana Synková This PhD. thesis maps strategies of legitimation and survival of non-governmental organizations working with people that use to be categorized as "socially excluded" or "Roma". It attempts to answer the question: "What NGOs do to be able to look successful, gain resources, and create organizational reputation?" This work does not treat organizations as "things", but as processes and social networks influenced by state and European policies, funding mechanisms and internal competition. Despite the organizations being discursively divided into those preferring more ethnic or social definition of their clients, they have to cope with the same pressures in the shape of social services law, standards of quality or control systems that come with projects. Organizations are far from devoting their time to "work with clients"; they are also involved in enlarging social capital of their members and in production of "texts" that serve their legitimation claims towards control bodies, other organizations and public. Press that serves the public? Survey of journals published by Prague's municipalities

This master thesis deals with the phenomenon of journals published by local municipalities, defined in a recent amendment to the Press Act in the legal order of the Czech Republic as "journals of territorial administrative units". According to the press law the purpose of these journals is to deliver information about the self- governing unit while providing adequate space for presenting opinions and views of all ideological spectrum of the local council. These journals were recently criticized for being abused by the ruling political representation and being misused as a form of political PR rather than an independent news platform. My research is focused on their gradual professionalization that was recently encouraged by the changes in the Czech law. The research is based on a survey of editors of these journals. In the survey I investigated the background of the content production of these journals, various aspects of their organization, details about staff editors and their reflection on the topic, as well as control mechanisms that are set to ensure the statutory requirements of objectivity and impartiality. The Diploma Thesis is focused on the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic and its professionalization. The Thesis solves question about stable extent of the professionally experienced and professional politicians in Chamber of Deputies and its organs by using professionalization factors to the Czech Chamber of Deputies. Furthermore the thesis is focused on material processing and information security of deputies which are provided by the Chamber of Deputies to perform parliamentary duties professionally and full time.
