Voltammetric Determination of 4-Nitrobiphenyl at a Mercury Meniscus Modified Silver Solid Amalgam Electrode
Horáková, Eva ; Schwarzová, Karolina (referee) ; Barek, Jiří (advisor)
The presented bachelor thesis is devoted to study of electrochemical behavior of 4-nitrobiphenyl (4-NBP) and to finding of optimum conditions for its' determination using direct current voltammetry (DCV) and differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) at a mercury meniscus modified silver solid amalgam electrode (m-AgSAE). The aim was to achieve the lowest possible limit of determination and to verify the applicability of the newly developed method for determination of 4-NBP in model samples of drinking water. Methanol-acetate buffer pH 4,8 (3:7) was found as an optimum medium for the determination of 4 NBP at a m-AgSAE in deionized water. During DCV it is not necessary to apply electrochemical regeneration of the working electrode, during DPV it is proper to apply following regeneration potentials: Ereg,1 = 0 mV, Ereg,2 = -1300 mV. The concentration dependence of the peak current was found to be linear for both methods for 10-5, 10-6 and 10-7 mol∙l-1 concentration ranges. The limit of determination of 4-NBP both by DCV and by DPV is 2∙10-7 mol∙l-1. The optimum medium for the determination of 4-NBP in drinking water is the mixture of the sample and acetate buffer pH 4,8 in the 9:1 ratio.. During DCV regeneration was not applied, during DPV it was applied with the following regeneration potentials: Ereg,1...

Regulation of gene expression by thyroid hormone receptors
Oltová, Jana ; Fafílek, Bohumil (referee) ; Bartůněk, Petr (advisor)
Hormones coordinate various processes in living organisms and their action is mediated either by cell membrane receptors or nuclear receptors. Thyroid hormones (THs) have prominent effects on the growth, development, and many aspects of metabolism, embryogenesis and early life. Their receptors (TRs) belong to the nuclear receptor superfamily, whose members function as ligand-activated transcription factors, and depending on the context, they can act both as activators or as inhibitors of transcription. Thyroid hormone receptors are encoded by two genes, TRα and TRβ, and by alternative splicing multiple isoforms are generated. The major form of TR binds to T3-response element as a heterodimer with retinoid X receptor (RXR). TRs are able to bind T3-response elements (TREs) independently of ligand occupancy. TREs contain two or more subsequent half-site sequences of AGGTCA, which are usually arranged as direct repeats with four nucleotide spacing (DR4). TH-responsive target genes are involved in a wide range of cellular pathways. Example of such gene is Disp3, which might link TH and cholesterol metabolism in certain cell types.

Optimization of road maintenance
Dojčar, Martin ; Fábry, Jan (advisor) ; Pelikán, Jan (referee)
While creating a state budget it is always important to reduce the expenditures in the public sector. Among other possibilities, this could be reached by finding the optimal routes of road maintenance vehicles. These vehicles take care about the road network while considering all the conditions and restrictions related to this task. Since the objective is limited by several restrictions as well as conditions, a number of procedures is required to handle them progressively. A very important role in this task is featured by the postman problem, which all the procedures used are derived from. And they are as following: the undirected chinese postman problem, the directed chinese postman problem, the hierarchical postman problem and finally the capacitated postman problem. All these problems are also generally described in this thesis, so that they can be reused for a calculation of similar tasks, such as street sweeping, garbage collection, mail delivering or defining of the optimal school bus routes.

The Determinants of Private Savings in the EU: The Case of the Group of Eight Entrant Countries
Amponsah, Cornelius ; Bauer, Michal (advisor) ; Holub, Tomáš (referee)
Private saving in the CEE countries can be described as having stabilised over the period of reform. Among the transition variables employed in the study, price liberalisation stands out as the most potent correlate of private saving. This is seen as a direct consequence the gradual removal of the soft budget constraint under the command system and by extension the elimination of involuntary saving. Another remarkable outcome from the GMM model is the positive response of the first lag of private saving which demonstrates persistence of savings in the CEE over the transition period. Tied to this is the strong response of private saving to sound macroeconomic discipline in the CEE countries. This is evidenced in the positive response to key variables like GDP growth and improvements in the terms of trade. Most importantly, the aged dependency ratio is seen as the most consistently strong influence on private saving. This brings to the fore the role of pension reforms in these countries and its impact on public and private funds. Flemr, Libor ; Slepičková, Irena (advisor) ; Čáslavová, Eva (referee) ; Novotný, Jiří (referee)
Spatial and material conditions applicable to physical activities of young adolescents living in Central Bohemia Region The major objective of dissertation thesis was to explore the continuity of spatial and material conditions and affiliation to physical activities of individuals aged 12-15 years, i.e. young adolescents, living in municipalities, around the area of Central Bohemia Region (population 10 000-22 000) and their surroundings. The presented study was conducted predominantly as an empirical association research. The research sample consisted of 2 660 young adolescents living in five muni- cipalities in the area of Central Bohemia Region (Benešov, Beroun, Čelákovice, Kutná Hora, Neratovice) and their close surroundings. However, 2 564 properly completed questionnaires were analyzed. No direct relationship was found between the perceptions of spatial conditions, individual material equipment of young adolescents, and their attendance in physical activities. The correlation between spatial conditions applicable to locomotion activity and between locomotion activity of young adolescents reached r = -0.04. The correlation coefficients between spatial conditions applicable to sport and between organized sport activity in young adolescents were ranging from -0.10 to 0.19, and from -0.17 to 0.26...

Wall shear stress and its role in progress of atherosclerosis
Chytilová, Eva ; Malík, Jan (advisor) ; Horký, Karel (referee) ; Piťha, Jan (referee)
Atherosclerosis is associated with systemic risk factors such as hypertension, hyperlipidemia, diabetes mellitus and smoking. Nonetheless, atherosclerosis is a focal disease, preferentially affecting predisposed areas. The main local hemodynamic factor is wall shear stress, the frictional force acting tangencially on the endothelial cell surface. The effect of wall shear stress depends on its magnitude and direction, as well as on the characteristic of vessel geometry and blood flow. Wall shear stress is an important determinant of endothelial function and phenotype. Previous research showed that arterial sites with chronically low WSS are more prone to the development of atherosclerotic plaques. Mostly, it is the case of outer wall of arterial bifurcations, where the stroma of vessel wall prevents arterio-constriction in response to low WSS. However, lower WSS was described also in straight arterial segments, such as carotid arteries, in the presence of atherosclerosis risk factors.

Measuring Impact of Corporate Philanthropy and Corporate Community Investsment as a part of Corporate Social Responsibility
Bartošová, Zuzana ; Šťovíčková Jantulová, Magdaléna (advisor) ; Bergerová, Marcela (referee)
This master's thesis is concerned with corporate social responsibility and corporate philanthropy in relation to the measurement of corporate community investment impact. The impact measurement and its significance is approached through Corporate Community Investment methods introduced by London Benchmarking Group (LBG), in the Czech Republic referred to as "Standard odpovědná firma". This thesis is based on the hypothesis that this impact measurement method and its employment allows the long-term cultivation of the corporate social responsibility in the states where it is applied. In oder to asses the potential of LBG method implementation in the Czech Republic, this thesis introduces the measurement results, the target groups reviews of the measurement significance, and at the same time analyses a variety of case studies.

The supplementary pension savings scheme in the Czech Republic: Microeconomic evidence of the 2013 policy change
Rückl, Adam ; Janský, Petr (advisor) ; Soudek, Jan (referee)
The thesis investigates determinants of participation in the supplementary pension savings scheme in the Czech Republic and estimates their change with respect to the policy intervention realized in 2013. Using the time series of cross-sectional microeconomic data provided by the Statistics on Income and Living Conditions, the probability of participation and the level of contributions are estimated separately by probit and multiple linear regressions, respectively. The estimated coefficients of both models are tested for structural differences caused by the policy change, employing the pooled dataset of multiple years with additional coefficients to treat the compared period. The analysis confirms that income, age, education and economic activity have a positive effect on both the probability of participation and expected level of contributions. Whereas gender differences for the level of contributions have not been detected, single women on average show, ceteris paribus, 4.6 percentage points higher probability of participation than single men. Unexpectedly high level of activity was observed in case of retired individuals, who in 2014 represented approximately 15% of all participants and collected 20% of the credited direct state subsidy. With respect to the 2013 policy change, no evidence of a...

Vymazal, Ladislav ; Páleník, Radek (referee) ; Zich, Robert (advisor)
This work deals with restructuralization concerning productional subdivision and people working in this subdivision. The analytical and proposal parts form the most important chapters of the work. The analysis is further divided into three subsections. The crucial one defines the main productivity problems. Next, the issue of determination of workers' wages is addressed. The last subsection focuses on workshop layout and the ways of ensuring responsibility for particular production sector. The proposal that follows consists of measures to be taken to eliminate the deficiencies listed in the analytical part. The proposal is composed of a set of recommendations and unlike the analysis, it is not divided into smaller subsections. The main contribution of this work from the view of the company is increase in productivity and decrease in resource costs. From workers' view, the asset lies in better conditions in production environment and in the opportunity of self-fulfillment. Both the company and its workers can benefit from clear criteria for salary ratings.
