Textbooks evaluation

This thesis deals with an evaluation of textbooks and their operation at school. The theoretical part clarifies the purport of the term a textbook, functions and a structure of textbooks, and describes a text of textbooks, parameters of its evaluation, and the extratextual components of textbooks. It presents methods of work with a textbook and research into textbooks. The empirical part describes a research that was aimed to learn whether textbooks fit to modern parameters of textbooks. Further, it was aimed to find out the differences between using textbooks in practice and intentions of the authors, and the reasons for making these modifications.

Aspects of financing the LBO acquisitions

This diploma thesis deals with the acquisition of companies by means of the Leveraged Buyout (LBO) method. This method differs in many respects from the standards M&A. This work examines the specific features of the given business transactions from the viewpoint of the target companies, procedures and entities involved in these transactions. As the key element of the LBO method is the debt financing of the acquisition, the work also deals with this aspect and evaluates the positions of the creditors from the viewpoint of the influence on the stability of the financial system. The thesis further analyses the question whether the LBO method has an effect leading to an increased effectiveness of processes in a company, or whether, conversely, the proceeds of acquisition investors are a consequence of a transfer of values from other entities. The text is based on available theoretical and empirical sources which are supplemented by the author's analyses.

Analysis and Comparison of Dramatizations of The Wind in the Willows

This diploma thesis deals with an analysis and comparison of dramatizations of The Wind in the Willows by Kenneth Grahame, a book which ranks among the British children's classics. The paper examines to what extent the dramatizations correspond to the book, whether and why they deviate from the original text, and what consequences these changes have. The thesis focuses on four dramatizations – a play by Alan Alexander Milne called Toad of Toad Hall, Alfa Theatre production of The Wind in the Willows, a Walt Disney short animated film The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad, and Terry Jones´s adaptation of The Wind in the Willows to a feature film.
In the thesis, firstly the book and then the dramatizations are analyzed in terms of the theme and genre, characters, setting, composition and language use. Subsequently, the dramatizations are examined and compared with regards to the transformation processes – selection, condensation, substitution, amplification, and changes in composition and language. In the final chapter, I summarize my findings and draw the conclusion.

Relation of French literature critique to author's biography

Položme si otázku vztahu autorské biografie a díla. Co způsobuje znalost či neznalost autorova životopisu při četbě jeho děl? Do jaké míry ovlivňují životopisná fakta interpretaci díla? Pozměňují ji kvalitativně? Umožňují nám tato fakta hlubší pochopení samotného díla, nebo od něj naopak pouze odvádějí pozornost? V různých obdobích literární kritiky byla tato problematika nazírána jinak. A leckdy je odlišnost přístupů jednotlivých kritiků a škol zásadní. Při rozboru literárních děl se pozornost pohybovala od jednoho k druhému extrému osy autor - dílo. V jistých obdobích literární kritiky se striktně vycházelo ze životopisu autora a jeho osobnosti, zásadní význam byl připisován okolnostem vzniku díla, společenské situaci a historicky daným skutečnostem. Jindy se od postavy autora zcela odhlíželo, tato fakta byla nazývána biografickým klamem, souvztažnosti mezi dílem a autorovými životními zkušenostmi byly zcela opomíjeny a pozornost byla zaměřena pouze na samotný, izolovaný text, přičemž biografické studium bylo považováno za faktografický pozůstatek pozitivismu a jeho přístupu k umění. V posledních letech upíná literární teorie svou pozornost stále častěji ke čtenáři a čtenářské kompetenci. Work with text (read skill) in selected textbooks of Czech language

V naší práci se budeme zabývat otázkou, jak učebnice češtiny pro základní a střední školy přispívají k rozvíjení čtenářské gramotnosti našich žáků. Nejprve se zaměříme na vlastní pojem čtenářské gramotnosti, jak ho nahlíží některé instituce a autoři, poté se podíváme na několik významných srovnávacích výzkumů, které byly v této oblasti podniknuty. Na tomto základě a na základě didaktické literatury zformulujeme, jaké znalosti a dovednosti čtenářskou gramotnost zakládají a jakým způsobem by je mohlo vyučování mateřskému jazyku rozvíjet. Tyto poznatky pak budeme konfrontovat s výsledky analýzy vybraných učebnic českého jazyka.

Účetní uzávěrka a závěrka v České republice

Práce popisuje problematiku účetní uzávěrky a závěrky v České republice. Text je rozdělen do třech hlavních kapitol - otevírání účetních knih, účetní uzávěrka a účetní závěrka. V kapitole věnované otevírání účtů je popsáno jak, kdy a proč účetní jednotka otevírá účty hlavní knihy. V kapitole věnovaná účetní uzávěrce je popsáno, jaké činnosti účetní uzávěrka zahrnuje, popřípadě jak se o nich účtuje. Kapitola věnovaná učetní závěrce popisuje jednotlivé výkazy, které účetní závěrka zahrnuje. Dále je zde uvedeno, z jakého důvodu se výkazy sestavují a jaké obsahují položky. Závěr každé kapitoly přibližuje danou problematiku na příkladu z praxe.

Activities For Listening to Music at Primary Schools

The dissertation submits the theoretical elaboration about the problem o f listening activities in terms o f music education in primary school. Listening of music is an integral part o f music education in primary school. Its function is essential for this type o f education. Effectiveness o f listening activities in primary school depends on many factors which were examined from their functional point o f view. Requests o f an active form o f listening and related listening activities raise a question to what extend the music education text books deal with this problem. The text books were analysed in terms of listening activities problem and based on that the suggestion of listening repertory was created, supplemented with the methodical process of work. The individual examples were chosen, concerning music abilities and skills o f pupils attending the primary school. Creativity is the base for the music thinking development. Methods for cultivating the music creativity are the important part of education. Cooperative education, project method and use o f information technology in music education are the methods which help to develop pupil's music creativity. Industrial music

V předkládané DP, určené k obhajobě na Katedře kulturologie FF UK, jsem se pokusil shrnout důležité aspekty ve vývoji jednoho druhu moderní hudby, který bývá nazýván industriálem, a jeho nejpřístupnější taneční odnoži tzv. Electronic Body Music (EBM). Domnívám se, že zvolený postup ukázal na mnoho zajímavých faktů, které vesměs akademická obec (dokonce i odborná muzikologická) nebere v potaz, přestože je třeba obracet zrak i k nejnovějším a různorodým formám kultury. 84 V DP jsem přiblížil stěžejní publikované práce k tématu, definoval pojem této hudby, představil její historii a význačná hudební alba, přičemž jako případovou studii jsem zvolil slavnou skupinu Front 242, jejíž další přiblížení je též náplní příloh. Důležitou součástí je ukázka, jak funguje EBM tvorba a komunita, v čem je specifická, jací jsou lidé, kteří takovou muziku poslouchají a jaké má tento hudební styl obsahy. Otázkou zůstává, jak by se s fenoménem EBM vypořádali odborní muzikologové, kteří se elektronickou hudbou zabývají na obecnější rovině: "Hudba a elektronika současně jako nový Gesamtkunstwerk nebo komerce a zastírání ne-umění anebo snaha o nové jako výraz doby?" ptá se například hudební sociolog Miloš Schnierer (1995:63). Stability and Growth Pact as an element of economic and monetary union

This diploma thesis analyses Stability and Growth Pact. It examines, if SGP is the appropriate guard of fiscal discipline of EMU member states. It explains how SGP works, what the basic elements are and how constituent procedures behave. This thesis investigates favorable and also negative features of Stability and Growth Pact in its former version. It analyses, how have member states respected and met requirements of SGP. In particular, it pays attention to states, which couldn't fulfill these fiscal conditions. Then it devotes to critics of SGP and academic reform proposals on its reform. It cites debate on the level of member states and European Union institutions, their opinions and reform proposals too. On the basis of this discussion it has been created a new alteration of Stability and Growth Pact - it is also described and evaluated in this thesis. However, this reformed version of SGP is more flexible, but it will probably leads to loosening of fiscal rules and here is a risk, that in this form, it will never work well. Context-Dependent Dictionary for Translators

During a manual translation of short texts, such as texts occurring on social networks or microblogs (e.g., Twitter), translators are often forced to gather additional information from various sources. These can include less common words, domain-specific terms, or numerous abbreviations. The aim of this thesis is to design and implement a system which automatically creates a minimal context-dependent dictionary for the given short message. The system identifies suitable dictionary entries in the translated text and searches for their definitions, translations, and examples from available open sources, or extracts them automatically from a parallel corpus. The resulted dictionary is ideally sufficient for human translators to understand the message, and to choose appropriate translation equivalent (including technical terms). An empirical evaluation is based on statistics which tracks how often users were satisfied with the proposed entries, how often the entries were incorrect and to what extent the system correctly identified the relevance for the input text.
