The Archaic Slavic Religion in a Perspective of Georges Dumézil's Comparative Mythology
Dynda, Jiří ; Antalík, Dalibor (advisor) ; Téra, Michal (referee)
THE ARCHAIC SLAVIC RELIGION IN A PERSPECTIVE OF GEORGES DUMÉZIL'S COMPARATIVE MYTHOLOGY JIŘÍ DYNDA ABSTRACT The presented paper deals with the application of Dumézil's comparative mythology on religion of ancient Slavs. I will briefly introduce the life and method of Georges Dumézil and examine the influence of Durkheimian sociology and Lévi-Straussian structuralism on his research. A short summary of his focal theory of tripartite, three-functional ideology will be presented as well. Then I will present an analysis of Slavic archaic social stratification by means of tripartite ideology; I will also accentuate the importance of Slavic religious specialists, i.e. the "priestly class", and also the need of searching of (supposed) clearly articulated tripartite theological structures of Slavic paganism, especially in cultic practices. In the last third of this work, four possible dumézilian interpretations of Slavic pantheon will be demonstrated. Each function will be examined on the basis of primary sources reading and secondary interpretations. In the concluding synthesis there will be shown the antithetic, yet complementary character of given academic theories and interpretations and subsequently I will evaluate the dumézilian hypothesis in general. Furthermore its contributions as well as inherent...

Hare's thesis as a logical and philosophical problem
Luhan, Martin ; Svoboda, Vladimír (advisor) ; Marvan, Tomáš (referee)
Title: Hare's thesis as a logical and philosophical problem Author: Martin Luhan Department: Department of Logic Supervisor: PhDr. Vladimír Svoboda, CSc. Abstract: The present work is aiming to analyse the problem of inferring from impe- rative premisses to an indicative conclusion which goes by the name Hare's Thesis. The logical analysis of the language of morals was the basis of Richard M. Hare's ethical studies. Therefore a brief presentation of his philosophy is given followed by a detailed walkthrough of his way of dealing with impera- tives. Hare states that logic should be interested in dealing with prescriptive sentences. The paper also presents a selection of some of the semantics of logic of imperatives and some of their fundamental problems. Based on this we finally analyse whether the Hare's Thesis which forbids inferring from im- perative premisses to indicative conclusions is acceptable. And we conclude that in most cases it is reasonable to reject it. Keywords: Logic of imperatives, Hare's Thesis, deontic logic, metaethics

Incredible Adam Spark. Between translation and transformation
Náprstek, Marek ; Ženíšek, Jakub (advisor) ; Matuchová, Klára (referee)
This BA thesis is concerned with the translation of a part of the novel The Incredible Adam Spark written by a Scottish author Alan Bissett and its consequent stylistic analysis. This thesis deals mainly with the question of reproduction of a literary work in a different socio-cultural environment that it was created in, it discuses the achievable degree of objectivity and authenticity during the process of translation and finally it concentrates on the role of a translator as a mediator between the writer and the reader. One of the examined fields is also the question of the translator's involvement in the reformulation of the translated material, in other words, his role as a partial co-author, who is incapable of depersonalized transmission of information between the writer of the source text and its recipient. The thesis itself is divided into three main parts. First part provides theoretical framework dealing with the general question of the process of translation and its principles. Second part consists of the translation of a part of the text in question. Third part concludes by analysing the chosen procedures and encountered problems in relation to the theoretical framework mentioned above.

Commented translation: Blueprint of a Penguin (Wayne Lynch: Penguins of the World, Chapter One. Londýn: 2007, p. 17-37)
Nováčková, Michala ; Jettmarová, Zuzana (advisor) ; Abdallaova, Naděžda (referee)
The thesis contains a translation of the first chapter of the book Penguins of the World by Wayne Lynch published in 2007 in London and a commentary on the translation. The aim was to preserve in the translation the function of the source text as well as the author's style with respect to different conventions of the genre in source and target languages. The commentary includes translation analysis of the source text, analysis of translation problems and typology of translation shifts. Commented translation problems and shifts are supported by concrete examples. The commentary is concluded by a chapter on the translation method.

Fashion and art
Vlášková, Veronika ; Jarošová, Helena (referee) ; Ševčík, Miloš (advisor)
The final thesis examines the relationship between art and fashion from the perspective of aesthetics. It deals with the problem systematically. The first chapter examines the principle of fashion on the strength of the classics of sociology, G. Simmel, R. König, T. Veblen and G. Lipovetsky. It concludes that the principle of fashion is sociological, i.e. it is a two-fold movement of social differentiation and integration. This meaning (fashion as principle) is contrasted with clothing fashion, i.e. fashion in the sense of the sum of fashion clothing. The aesthetic element in fashion occurs subsidiarily. The second chapter links these conclusions and bases them on the functionally structuralistic principles of J. Mukařovský. This connection defines fashion clothing as clothing with a dominant fashion function, enabling social differentiation. As it is clothing, it must be possible to wear it. Therefore fashion clothing cannot be included in the domain of art, where the aesthetic function dominates, or let us say only under the condition of losing the dominance of fashion function. The third chapter explores possible causes of its loss. The fourth chapter summarizes Genettes conception of mode of transcendence of a work of art, which is then applied to the discussed topic. This enables the explanation of...

Modely výpočetní inteligence pro hydrologické predikce
Paščenko, Petr ; Petříčková, Zuzana (referee) ; Neruda, Roman (advisor)
The thesis deals with the application of computational artificial intelligence models on hydrological predictions. The short term rainfall-runoff prediction problem is studied on the real data of physical time seriesmeasured in the watershed of river Plučnice. A brief statistical study including correlation and regression analyses is performed. The high level of variance and noise is concluded. The evolution of the proper input filter providing an input set for the neural network is performed. In the main part of the thesis several neural network models based on multilayer perceptron, RBF units, and neuroevoution are constructed together with two neural ensembles inspired by the bagging method. The models are tested on the three subsequent years summer data. The greater generalization ability of multilayer perceptron architectures is concluded. The resulting multilayer perceptron models are able to reduce the mean squared error of the prediction by 15% compared to the prediction by the previous value.

Conscience of the ecological crisis and its reflection in lifestyle
Mlynář, Jakub ; Suša, Oleg (advisor) ; Sládek, Jan (referee)
In this paper author makes an attempt to describe the development of the man - nature relationship in the Western thought and also the reflections of this problem, using the "domination of man over nature" metaphor. He concludes the problem of "culture versus nature" duality on the example of philosophical and historical research on the cultural basis of ecological crisis. He follows describing the birth of early conservationist movement (H. Thoreau, J. Muir), ecological ethic (A. Schweitzer) and transformation of this concepts into various fields: ecofeminism, social ecology (M. Bookchin) and deep ecology (A. Naess). Author reflects the position of environmental issues in the academic discussion as well as the incorporation of the ecological concepts into sociological theory (environmental sociology). In the final part of the paper the issue of individual life-style reflection of the environmental problems is opened, using the conception of "voluntary simplicity" (D. Elgin) or "postmaterial values" (R. Inglehart). The paper is finished with critical views on the "voluntary simplicity" phenomenon, the issue of "privatization of the ecological crisis" and commercionalization of the ecological lifestyle.

A Study on the Techniques and Methods in German-Czech Translations at the Time of the Renaissance and the Reformation
Zemenová, Markéta ; Svoboda, Tomáš (advisor) ; Veselá, Gabriela (referee)
The thesis is a contribution to the field of Translation Studies focusing on Translation History. It is concerned with the techniques and methods used in German-Czech translations at the time of the Renaissance and the Reformation. Three selected German texts form the 16th and early 17th century and their first translations into Czech were analysed in this work in order to revise and further extend the current research findings on translations of the period and to provide an overview of the main problems connected with investigation of old prints. Based on our original analysis we conclude that the translation techniques and methods used in the time of the Renaissance and the Reformation were very diverse and often mutually contradictory. No evidence of consistent translation strategies or any universal translation norm was found within the scope of our analysis.

Responsibility to Protect and Regime Change: Case of Libya
Koucká, Kateřina ; Střítecký, Vít (advisor) ; Hynek, Nikola (referee)
The aim of this work is to analyze the relationship between R2P and violent regime change. The work gives an overview of the establishment of R2P on the international scene, and then deals with its problem of selectivity in its application in practice. Despite the formal adoption of R2P in 2005 by all UN member states, R2P has been since then applied to similar cases of humanitarian crises in different ways. The problem of selectivity of R2P is fuelling the criticism of its legitimacy, because it is according to many a mean for achieving regime change. The most important reason for R2P's criticism is the connection between R2P and violent regime change, and that is the central theme of this work. Based on an analysis of the documents which form R2P, the work concludes that military intervention under R2P must not be deliberately used for regime change. However, there may be situations, when regime change is necessary for the protection of civilians; which means that regime change can be regarded as legitimate only if it is as an indirect result of the intervention. Therefore regime change is an integral part of R2P. The work aims to explore this ambivalent relationship and find out, where lies the boundary between legitimate overthrowing of a régime for the protection of civilians, and regime...
