Media presentation of the death of Jan Masaryk in Czech press in the years 1968 and 1969
Niklová, Jana ; Bednařík, Petr (advisor) ; Cebe, Jan (referee)
The target of the thesis was to prove that changing political situation and situation around censorship in the years 1968 and 1969. int1uenced the media presentation of the death of former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Czechoslovak Republic Jan Masaryk. He died in 1948 under the strange and unexplained circumstances, shortly after the communist party took control over the Republic. The only one official version valid for 20 years was that he undoubtedly committed suicide. I assumed that after the revolutionary social changes and liberalisation in the year 1968, called Prague spring, a lot of theories and versions of Masaryk's death (murder, political murder. accident...) occurred in the newspaper. My hypothesis was that after the restoration of restrictions in society and restoration of censorship after the invasion of armies of Warsaw pact in August 1968 and during so called Normalisation, the media presentation of the Masaryk's death turned into the state that was valid for the previous twenty years - suicide, and that the number of articles decreased rapidly. Church politics of the Communist party and the state at Trutnov region during 1945-1960 and its impact on religious life of inhabitants
Kafka, Jan ; Cuhra, Jaroslav (referee) ; Dobeš, Jan (advisor)

Europeanization of Italian Politics. Case Study: Italian Regional Policy For South
Rozsívalová, Martina ; Perottino, Michel (advisor) ; Váška, Jan (referee)
This contribution presents a reflection on the Europeanization of Italian regional policy for Mezzogiorno, that is, on the domestic impact of EU regional policy on policies and strategies of Italian state in the process of transition. The process of Europeanization of Italian regional policy in 1990s can be interpreted as a paradigmatic change, marked by three stages. "Europeanization" is meant here as concerning the mechanisms and dynamics of national response to supranational policy inputs, with a specific attention to factors of resistance and change in Southern Italian institutions and policies. This paper also highlights the problems with the use of the concept of Europeanization. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)

Corporate Tax Competition: A Meta-Analysis
Labíková, Nikol ; Polák, Petr (advisor) ; Schneider, Ondřej (referee)
This thesis provides the first meta-analysis investigating the effect of corporate tax competition among states, with special focus on the effect of the corporate tax rate change in competing country on the corporate tax rate in the home country. It examines 523 estimates from 20 published studies and working papers. Results of the meta-analysis show an evidence of substantial publication selectivity: researchers tend to discard negative and insignificant estimates, which overvalues the estimated effect size. Conducted precision effect test failed to find the evidence for the existence of a genuine effect of corporate tax competition. Empirical analysis shows that differences in the measurement of statutory and effective tax rate matter, thus the analysis was conducted on two separate sub-samples. Meta-regression analysis have found significant impact of variables related to publication bias for both sub-samples. Next to it, the results provide an evidence of significant influence of politically orientated controls, especially of the variable controlling whether or not there were elections in the particular year and state in case when the corporate tax rate changed. Press that serves the public? Survey of journals published by Prague's municipalities
Písačková, Kateřina ; Hájek, Roman (advisor) ; Krobová, Tereza (referee)
This master thesis deals with the phenomenon of journals published by local municipalities, defined in a recent amendment to the Press Act in the legal order of the Czech Republic as "journals of territorial administrative units". According to the press law the purpose of these journals is to deliver information about the self- governing unit while providing adequate space for presenting opinions and views of all ideological spectrum of the local council. These journals were recently criticized for being abused by the ruling political representation and being misused as a form of political PR rather than an independent news platform. My research is focused on their gradual professionalization that was recently encouraged by the changes in the Czech law. The research is based on a survey of editors of these journals. In the survey I investigated the background of the content production of these journals, various aspects of their organization, details about staff editors and their reflection on the topic, as well as control mechanisms that are set to ensure the statutory requirements of objectivity and impartiality. In addition to the survey, I also present a brief case study of the Hobulet magazine, published in the Prague 7 district, which is considered to be a progressive example of the genre. The...
