Transsexuality
ŠTANGLOVÁ, Jitka
The bachelor thesis is focused on the description of the life path of transsexual men from their childhood, through the change of sex, to the reaction of the neighbourhood to their new identity. The research was also attended by family members and close friends of transsexuals, who supplement their research with their views on gender conversion. The theoretical part of the thesis deals with the definition of terms from the field of transsexuality, which are sex, gender and gender identity. Subsequently, the thesis deals with the classification of gender identity disorders, the history and etiology of transgender. Then, a detailed description of the individual stages of sex conversion follows and in the final part, the work deals with the representation of transsexual individuals in the population. The empirical part describes the life of transsexual men in the areas of childhood and adolescence, the first consciousness, the course of gender conversion and the reaction of the neighbourhood to their new identity. The research is enriched by the statements of the family and close friends who comment on the sex change of the respondents. A total of 5 people participated in the research, and in-depth interviews were conducted and narrative analysis was chosen as a research method.
The issue of transgender.
HEBKÁ, Tereza
The thesis is divided into the theoretical and empirical part. The theoretical part deals with the definition of terms such as sex, gender, gender identity and gender role, transgender. A separate chapter then describes transsexuality as the most serious and the life of the individual most affecting form of the transgender. The chapter focuses on the theory of transsexuality, briefly introduces history, discusses the various stages of gender transformation, and finally puts transsexuality into a social context. The empirical part is then focused on mapping the life and experience of transsexual individuals during the transition. Three respondents were chosen for the research, and they were interviewed in depth narrative interviews. The IPA method was chosen as a research method. The findings suggest that transsexuals often experience an identity crisis that is perceived by their surroundings, so they are largely supported by their loved ones. They are mostly very dissatisfied with the care of experts and the media image of transsexuality.

Systems of Transgender Oppression in the Czech Republic: An Independent Analysis
Lorenzů, Alex ; Sokolová, Věra (advisor) ; Kobová, Ĺubica (referee)
The thesis deals with the normative discourse of transsexuality, both from a general cultural- historical perspective in the context of Western science and medicine and more specifically in the context of Czech sexology. On a detailed analysis of the publication Transsexualita: Diagnostika a léčba (Transsexuality: Diagnostics and Treatment), I illustrate the currently dominant conceptualization of transgender and/or transsexuality as a disorder, which, due to its normative influence, predetermines not only the possibilities of (self)identification available to trans* people in the Czech Republic, but also their treatment by Czech society and state institutions (e.g. in the conditions to be met for legal gender recognition, which still include compulsory sterilization). Methodologically, the thesis is chiefly grounded in discourse analysis, but it also shows an ethical standpoint in relation to the situation of Czech trans* people in the legal and medical systems. I also consider the factual dimension of transgender status and other expressions of gender diversity, primarily in maintaining a critical distance from the notions of their alleged pathology, still widespread in the normative sexological discourse. Keywords Biology, discourse, ethics, human rights, intersex, normativity, pathologization,...
Psychological aspects of the transformation of gender role of transgenders in Czech context
Čechová, Helena ; Smetáčková, Irena (advisor) ; Hrubý, Radovan (referee)
The thesis presents the processes of gender role transition and sex reassignment from the perspectives of psychology, medicine, and sociology. Its main focus is on the various aspects influencing the psyche of a person undertaking transition. The thesis investigates why trans identity is commonly viewed as a pathology and the impact of pathologization on the self-perception of trans people. Furthemore, the traditional outline of the transition process in Czech sexology is compared to some current international approaches. A section of the text addresses psychotherapy as a key factor in transition. A significant component of the thesis is that it takes a sociocultural viewpoint on gender identity and gender roles. One of the goals is to understand how medical experts dealing with trans identity conceptualize transition and how trans people themselves conceptualize it. The overall aim is to investigate how both of these sides influence each other and what psychological aspects enter the processes of gender role transition and sex reassignment. Key words: transsexuality, transgender, sex reassignment, gender identity, gender role.
Transgender identity
Kováriková, Juliána ; Skupnik, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Štěpánová, Irena (referee)
The main purpose of the present diploma thesis is to introduce the transgender identity as a newly emerging lifestyle and political activism of transpeople. Because the transgenderism has been formed in opposition to the dominant medical discourse of transsexuality, it is necessary to include the transsexual stand of view which transgender people are defining against. I regard the transsexuality and transgenderism as two different discourses forming new different identity categories, having specific impact on lives of people they are naming. I focus mainly on the impact of different concepts of sex, gender and sexuality on formation of specific shapes of these ideologies. In the empirical part, I am applying my mind on the narrative construction of transgender identity. Through some parts of interview with a person diagnosed with transsexuality, that has accepted the identity of a transgender in the course of his life, I try to mediate a more realistic and sculpturesque image of transgender/transsexual life, identity and sense of self.

Politicizing Sexualities: Mobilization practices and networking within the LGBTQ movement in contemporary Madrid
Wiesnerová, Vendula ; Ezzeddine, Petra (advisor) ; Kolářová, Kateřina (referee)
This ethnographic study intends to explain the recent mobilization practices within the LGBTQ movement in contemporary Madrid in reference to the strategic use of identity and networking in collective action. It describes the Spanish movement as an ideologically polarized heterogeneous aggregate. The active challenging groups criticize the dominant part of the movement for giving up its original message of sexual liberation and diluting it in consumerism by supporting capitalist tendencies and the power of leading political parties. Via launching protest campaigns and collaborating in internationally supported networks with other ideologically related social movement communities, the challenging groups demand civil rights for all people, regardless of their sexual orientation or identity. They mobilize upon the collective identity of "precariousness" while integrating elements of queer and transgender theory into their radical leftist oriented politics in order to transform the Spanish society. By bringing on new critical ideas and adherents, the success of the leftist oriented challenging groups has an impact on the direction of the politics of the dominant group, which thereby is forced to adopt such ideas into their politics. Despite the disunity and antagonistic character of the movement, the...
