Garden in Children's Literature - its presentation, role and symbolism in The Secret Garden and Tom's Midnight Garden
Jílková, Klára ; Chalupský, Petr (advisor) ; Farrell, Mark Robert (referee)
In my diploma thesis, I deal with the topic of the garden as it is presented in Frances Hodgson Burnett's The Secret Garden and Ann Philippa Pearce's Tom's Midnight Garden. In the beginning, I discuss the reasons for the attractivity of this topic among children's authors in general, and introduce Burnett and Pearce. In the following chapters I focus mainly on the role of the gardens in the characters' lives, showing the positive effect they have on the characters, helping them to gradually change for the better. I concern myself with several themes, including the way and the circumstances in which the two gardens are discovered, the setting of the stories, and the magical aspects of both gardens. I also deal with the differences in the perception of time and with the interconnectivity of time levels in the stories. At the end of this thesis there is a chapter devoted to the way both authors present their gardens and on the means they use for their descriptions.

Bulgakov's novel The Master and Margarita and its Czech translations
Kargalceva, Natalija ; Oganesjanová, Danuše (referee) ; Rubáš, Stanislav (advisor)
This diploma thesis contains analysis of the two Czech translations of Bulgakov's novel "Master and Margarita". On the first pages, the author concems on Michail Bulgakov's life and work and seeks a parallel between the fate of the writer and the story of his last novel. Then she characterizes the novel itself and closely analyzes its two naratives: "Muscovite'' and "Jerusalem's" ones, which blend in the story. The analysis of the translations is made in a perspective of such a division. The author concerns on the way of a translation of realia (proper and local names, medical terms, cuisine etc.). She begins with the translation of proper names and, keeping to opinions of L. S. Barkhudar and L. K. Latishev, compares the two translator's approaches. After this, she concludes that such a translation has been very difficult and treacherous for the translators whose solutions are arguable and not always correct. A list of the translations of proper names is included in the Appendix 1. In the next chapter, the author deals with methods of using lexical devices and examines their function in a framework of the novel. In the "Muscovite" narative, lexical units allusive to supernature and phrases containing the words "devil" and "god" (see Appendix 2) are concerned. These lexical devices display author's stance...

Rösslerová, Klára ; Vlasák, Rudolf (advisor) ; Sklenák, Vilém (referee) ; Drobíková, Barbora (referee)
This dissertation focuses on the data exchange bibliographic formats that have been used in the libraries since the 1960s. There have not been many changes over the decades although librarians have been calling for them. Since the beginning of the new millennium, there has been a growing pressure for change. The aim of this dissertation is to try to summarize the activities in this field and to outline possible future development. The formats used in the past and in the present are analysed in the first part. It is possible to predict the future development on the basis of the analysis of individual projects and on the basis of surveys. The results of the analysis suggest that these activities are headed to a linked data publication model that preserves the current cataloguing procedures. Keywords: exchange formats, bibliographic data, MARC format, MARC 21 format, linked data, BIBFRAME, Schema.org, cataloguing

Dramatization of Olbracht's novel the Bandit Nikolai Shuhai
Mládková, Nela ; Janoušek, Pavel (advisor) ; Mocná, Dagmar (referee) ; Smrčka, Jiří (referee)
The theme of the thesis named Dramatization of Olbracht's Nikola Šuhaj loupežník is focused on the secondary life of Olbracht's prose on Czech stages, in film and in other media as well. The interpretation begins with the recapitulation of circumstances of the creation and the initial reception of the novel and from its analysis related to the genre, language, style and composition, and proceeds with analyses of the individual dramatizations, created primarily by Peter Ulrich (LP Nikola Šuhaj loupežník, 1974; Nikola Šuhaj loupežník, Ateliér 1975; Koločava, Městské divadlo Brno 2011) or by Milan Uhde (Balada pro banditu, Divadlo na provázku 1975 and 2005; film 1978). Special attention is paid to the fact that the key dramatizations of Olbracht's Nikola Šuhaj loupežník worked with music and songs in their theatre adaptations and they used them as a means of expression that intensified the lyrical passages and allowed to transfer the poetics of the given literary model into a very impressive contemporary theatre form. The aim of the thesis is to show in what ways those who dramatized and staged the models kept transferring the story of Olbracht's novel into different social situations (or other cultures), while endeavouring to take advantage of the story in order to depict current problems of their...
