The Meaning and Perception of Local Smal-Town Cinema
Bargel, Robert ; Gibas, Petr (advisor) ; Pauknerová, Karolína (referee)
This diploma thesis is an ethnographic study of a local small-town cinema in Řevnice near Prague. It analyzes social, cultural - or symbolic - meanings of this cinema with respect to a wider social and cultural context. Because the cinema, as a place, is constituted by the social practice of "cinema-going", this thesis is a "thick description" of spectators' lived experience in that space. The author of this thesis employs the interpretative approach of Geertz as well as the approaches of phenomenologicaly oriented thinkers of Patočka, Berger, Luckmann and Tuan. The author's research reveals that in current times, there is a strong symbolic polarity between small cinemas and multiplexes. Small cinemas are seen to be in opposition to the "popcorn culture" of the multiplexes on the levels of aesthetics, morals, ethics etc. In the case of the cinema in Řevnice, the local character of the facility is very important too. It not only distinguishes this cinema from multilpexes, but it also helps form local identity incorporated by the town and its inhabitants. The author also points out the differences between young and older people's perception of cinemas in general caused by their different previous experiences. In order to capture the wider cultural context of the cinema, the author uses the work of...

Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy: application in a study of transient species in discharge and ablation plasma
Kubelík, Petr ; Civiš, Svatopluk (advisor) ; Wild, Jan (referee) ; Rohlena, Karel (referee)
The present dissertation consists of two thematically related parts. The first one (includes two publications) deals with the study of chemical pro- cesses and spectroscopy of highly reactive particles produced in the discharge plasma. This part includes the analysis of ro-vibronic CN radical transitions in the infrared region and the study of chemical reactions in pulsed dischar- ges. The discharge was used as a tool for research of decomposition of simple precursors (acetonitrile, formamide and BrCN) and the subsequent formation of intermediates and reaction products in plasma. The obtained experimental results were interpreted using a numerical model developed in context of this work and used to simulate the kinetics of the studied systems. The second part (includes seven works) is aimed at high-resolved spectro- scopy of metals in the ablation plasma. A total of six different metals were studied: Au, Ag, Cu, Cs, K and Na. The main motivation for spectroscopic research on metals in the infrared region is to obtain information on atomic metals transitions, which are particularly important for astronomical identi- fication of lines in the spectra of stars and their spectroscopic assignments. Each publication contains a summary of the analyzed atomic transitions of which a considerable portion had not...

Influence of the Optina pustyn monastery on Fyodor Mikhailovich Dostoevsky
Vrzalová, Šárka ; Nykl, Hanuš (referee) ; Chlup, Radek (advisor)
This work deals with influence of important place - the Optina Pustyn Monastery on Fyodor Mikhailovich Dostoevsky. Introductory chapters about starchcestvo and the Optina Pustyn Monastery sets the core of this work in deeper context. Specific aim of the work is to evaluate influence of this monastery on Fyodor Mikhailovich Dostoevsky, especially on his literary works. There are explained the writer's contacts with the monastery at first and analysed single novels influenced by this place latter. This work investigates impact of texts issued by publishing company in the Optiny Pustyn Monastery on novels The Adolescent and The Possessed. The chief aim of this work is to interpret how Dostoevsky worked with inspiration drawn during his visit in the Optina Pustyn Monastery and impression of personal meeting with staretz Amvrosy in novel The Brothers Karamazov. There is also appraisal of approach two Russian philosophers (Konstantin Leontiev and Vasily Rozanov), who criticized Dostoevsky's conception of starchestvo.

Fish and benthos of the Černá Nisa stream and their contamination by metals in the period of recovery from acidification
Burdová, Lucie ; Hořická, Zuzana (advisor) ; Slavík, Ondřej (referee)
The aims of the thesis were to compare chemistry of the Černá Nisa stream in the Jizera Mountains (Northern Bohemia, Czech Republic) at the end of the era of strong anthropogenic acidification (in the mid-1990s) and in the period of the recent intensive chemical and biological recovery from acidification, and to study the present biota of the stream. During the year 2008, physical and chemical parameters of the water were studied, the species and age composition of ichthyofauna, and the quality and quantity of macrozoobenthos - the main component of the food for fish. Special attention was paid to the content of toxic metals (Be, Al, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, As, Cd, Pb, Hg) in the water, main representatives of benthic organisms, and in selected tissues of brook charr. The comparison of the water chemistry with results from the years 1994, 1996, and 1997 showed a decrease in acidification, despite the unstable chemical climate during the seasons, and sulphate and nitrate concentrations still high. Since the mid 1990s, the stream has been inhabited by a stable population of brook charr (Salvelinus fontinalis), a non-native, highly acid-tolerant species, which is now dominating there. At present, also a stable population of a native species, common minnow (Phoxinus phoxinus), occurs in the stream....
