Kopečná, Kateřina ; Chalupský, Petr (advisor) ; Topolovská, Tereza (referee)
This diploma thesis is concerned with the use of symbolism in three selected novels by William Golding, Pincher Martin, The Spire and The Double Tongue. The theoretical part presents a brief biography of the writer and outlines theoretical background of literary symbolism, focusing especially on Northrop Frye's Theory of Symbols and the psychoanalytic perspective. It is concluded by listing sources of inspiration behind the selected Golding's works, taking his own experiences as well as literary influences into account. The practical part begins with characterization of Golding's use of symbols in general, including his methods, recurring topics and symbolic patterns. Its main part focuses individually on the three chosen books, in the order of their publication. Each section analyses symbolism of setting of the story and the protagonists' names, symbolic imagery, and it seeks for Christian and psychoanalytic symbols. In addition, it presents possible interpretations of other significant symbols occurring in the particular novel. The use of symbolism is put in context with outer influences to show the variety of topics and specificity of the author's style.
South Bohemian sacral architecture of the late Gothic 1450 - 1550 in the Rosenberg domain
Lavička, Roman ; Kuthan, Jiří (advisor) ; Jarošová, Markéta (referee)
South Bohemian sacral architecture of the late Gothic1450 - 1550 in the Rosenberg domain Mgr. Roman Lavička A group of late-Gothic churches, which keeps attracting our attention, was built in the Rosenberg domain during the reign of the Jagiellon dynasty. Limited archival material, results of dendrochronologic analyses and preserved buildings suggest that it was mainly building maintenance that was in progress in the Rosenberg domain in the second half of the 15th century. In the early 1480s the building of the new pilgrimage church in Kájov (1471/1474- 1485) was coming to its end. And it was only then that big town parish churches in Trhové Sviny, Dolní Dvořiště, Hořice na Šumavě, Chvalšiny and Nové Hrady started being rebuild or constructed anew almost simultaneously. Around 1485 almost twenty religious buildings were being built in the Rosenberg domain. They reflect the increasing economic prosperity and self-confidence of the town and village municipalities, corporations as well as individuals manifesting their wealth, success and strength. From a formal and ideological point of view it is possible to trace down a group of related buildings directly in this initial phase. They were probably designed by a single architect who is referred to as Master of Hořice presbytery. However, around 1495 we can...

Laval, Filip ; Klápště, Jan (advisor) ; Žemlička, Josef (referee) ; Unger, Josef (referee)
Archaeology of the fortified manor in the Czech lands To the beginnings of the medieval fortified residences The work is dedicated to the medieval fortified manor in the Czech lands with regard to the need to formulate new questions. He marginally considers the questions of actual and historical terminology and its semantic content. To explore the functions of the fortified manors the structure of the associated settlement is discussed. A substantial testimony is attributed to some of selected written sources pointing to the legal-historical or jurisdictional context of "private" fortified settlements/residences. A separate chapter is devoted to the analysis of several examples of archaeological research from the Czech lands and from western parts of Europe, which revealed situations classifiable to fortified manor, respectively castles, which was preceded by much less or not at all fortified settlements, while maintaining close spatial continuity. So the questions concerning the beginnings of that type settlements are pronounced. With this packet of problems the work deals applying a comparative analysis that leads to some reassessment of the importance of the Romanesque church with the western tower as a kind of reduction of the castle model known from contemporary (12th century) Western European regions...

Parliamentary parties in the Czech Republic: functions, tools, stability
Kuta, Martin ; Reschová, Jana (advisor) ; Němec, Jan (referee) ; Kysela, Jan (referee)
The thesis deals with activities of Czech parliamentary parties during EU-affairs discussion in the Chamber of Deputies, Parliament of the Czech Republic. The main focus is on three characteristic features of political parties during their activities on the parliamentary level: stability (rhetorical, voting, and programmatic), use of parliamentary oversight tools, and fulfilling their systemic function. The parties are seen through the prism of behavioural approach. EU-affairs are a rather new topic with a variable salience for national parties. EU-affairs influence party competition in extra-parliamentary arena. Conflict, however non-salient topics in parliamentary arena are ousted by governmental parties in order for them to keep governmental stability. The parties do not act according to their party manifestoes (low level of Europeanization); instead, their voting behaviour indicates that the parties follow logic of parliamentary competition between government and opposition. Parliamentarization of EU governance (engagement of national parliaments in broader institutional setting of the EU) leads to spreading of party competition on the national level to a new policy area. Political parties use tools of parliamentary scrutiny in a rather limited extent and according to their actual position within the system. The thesis also deals with party nomination and composition of the Committee on European affairs which holds oversight powers. The empirical analysis is based on the analysis of voting behaviour of parliamentary party groups (roll-call data), stenographic records, Committee and plenary session resolutions and quantitative analysis of composition of the Committee.

Bellovičová, Lina ; Nový, Vítězslav (referee) ; Ponešová, Barbora (advisor)
Laborartory The place is located near the historic center in place of the former city walls. I is separand from the city by the green ring and Koliště street and i tis adjacent to the boundary of the zone of urban conservation area. The urban land is a point on the axis of Kapitána Jaroše Avenue leading from Lužánky Park towards the green ring of historic centre. I based the proposed project on the traditional shape of a house with an inner courtyard, which I adjusted to the shape of a corner plot. The aim was to create a sheltered quiet place . The proposal adapts by its height and scale and observes continues in the present street line. The aforementioned scale became the impulse for the distribution of construction materials carrying the 3 separately functioning solids. The aim of the proposal is to create three separately operating facilities that complement its functions. Creative work is accompanied by exposition of objects and subsequent sale. Therefore, the idea of produce, make, sell, translates into the functional design as workshops and studios, a gallery and design shop. The axis Kapitána Jaroše Avenue to the green ring intersecting the plot solved the shaping of the resulting model that supports this connection. The place is the completion of the axial connection between the two parks. Therefore, the land is covered with a green platform which penetrates among houses. The garden is a contrasting element to the pure black solids and surrounding parks. It brings elements of a flower meadow.
