Eating disroders with a focus on anorexia and bulimia in school children
Filová, Michaela ; Gjuričová, Šárka (advisor) ; Krch, František (referee)
As a topic of my bachelor thesis, I have chosen eating disorders, focusing on anorexia nervosa, and bulimia in school children. The choice of this topic has been conditioned by my personal experience with peers suffering from this disease. The seriousness of this issue is often trivialised, and that is alarming. That is the reason why I have focused on primary school children who attend upper primary schools. At this age, children are particularly sensitive to changes in their bodies, and it may cause eating disorders. The bachelor thesis is divided into theoretical and practical parts. In the theoretical part, I will deal with the characteristics of eating disorders, their history, symptoms, risk factors, complications, treatment, prevention, and where to look for help. I will also discuss other types of eating disorders. The practical part aims to find out what awareness of upper primary pupils is, and how students perceive their bodies. I have obtained all data in the form of a paper questionnaire that teachers had distributed to pupils in the classroom. Keywords: bulimia nervosa, anorexia nervosa, eating disorders, adolescence

Execise Therapy in Female Adolescents Hospitalised with Anorexia Nervosa
Ulrichová, Michaela ; Radvanský, Jiří (advisor) ; Krch, František (referee) ; Papežová, Hana (referee)
Objective: Body image disturbance is one of the main characteristics of anorexia nervosa (AN). It is present in different stages of the disease, often persisting even after the end of the treatment, and is one of the predictors of a relaps. Body image is composed of two main components - the perceptual component, and the attitudinal component. Anorexia nervosa patients show a disturbed attitudinal component of the body image. The perceptual component disruption hasn't been completely proven yet. Many authors do, however, warn about the overestimation of bodily proportions of patients with AN and it's possible relation with characteristics such as BMI. Goals: The main goal of the dissertation thesis was the objectivization of the body image disturbance of the patients hospitalized with anorexia nervosa, the comparison of their results with a group of healthy girls of the same age, and the search for factors connected to the defect of the body image. A side goal of the dissertation thesis was the measurement of the effect of kinesiotherapy on the anxiety level of AN patients. Methods: As a part of the practical section, the measurements of 27 hospitalized patients and 20 healthy girls were completed. Probands underwent body size estimation of 4 bodily segments. They estimated the length of their arm,...
Chronic anorexia nervosa and relapse prevention in its acute phase
Chudačíková, Dominika ; Presslerová, Pavla (advisor) ; Křížová, Ivana (referee)
The diploma thesis deals with anorexia nervosa as one of the basic forms of eating disorders, with emphasis on the very common chronic progression of this serious psychiatric illness. This thesis is based on the scientific fact, that conspicuous eating habits, constant control of thinking and behavior, as well as self-perception disorders, are observed in most cases, even in already cured patients. Long-term stress in common with a prone personality, can result in the acute phase of anorexia nervosa. The diploma thesis is qualitatively focused. The chosen methods of data collection are a questionnaire survey and a following semi-structured interview. The condition for participation in the research is the past experience with anorexia nervosa, without the current presence of the acute phase of this disease. The main goal of the diploma thesis is to map the burning issues of individuals who have gone through the acute phase of anorexia nervosa in the past, their current feelings and needs. The output of the diploma thesis are the specific recommendations, coming from the results of research survey, which would help to reduce the probability of relapse of the acute phase of mental anorexia in stressful situations. KEYWORDS Anorexia nervosa, eating disorders, chronicity, relapse prevention, addictive...
Kinesiotherapy in the treatment of patients with eating disorders
Žáková, Hana ; Pavlů, Dagmar (advisor) ; Hátlová, Běla (referee) ; Krch, František (referee)
Title: Kinesiotherapy in the treatment of patients with eating disorders Summary: The aim of our experiment was evaluate the effect of kineziotherapy (psychomotor therapy) on body image in the treatemnet of the patiens with eating disorders in The Department of Psychiatry on General University Hospital in Prague. The study included 10 women divided into two groups according to the psychiatrist`s diagnosis of anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa. The effectiveness of kinesiotherapy was also evaluated about the type of treatment - inpatient of the department for eating disorders and outpatient of the day care institution for eating disorders. We used a validated questionnaire Body Attitude Test (BAT) which is used for negative evaluation of body size, lack of familiarity with one`s own body and general body dissatisfaction. Then we used Test of silhouette according to Stunkard and Test for the evaluation of sensory stimuli according to Petrie. Due to the small sample size, we supplemented the quantitative part with the qualitative interview with open questions. It allowed us to understand the interaction of individuals with their own body. Keywords: anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, kinesiotherapy, psychomotor therapy, body image, Body Attitude Test, Petrie`s test, Stunkard`s test of silhouette, structured...
Anorexia nervosa in children and adolescents with a focus on clinical manifestations and anthropometric changes
Mikhaylova, Olga ; Floriánková, Marcela (advisor) ; Kosheleva, Svetlana (referee)
This diploma thesis deals with the issue of mental anorexia (AN), clinical and laboratory manifestations of the disease. The theoretical part is focused on summarizing the existing knowledge about the diagnosis, complications and treatment of AN. Attention is paid to the effects of the disease on individual organ systems and clinical and laboratory consequences. The practical part deals with the evaluation of laboratory parameters and clinical symptoms of patients monitored at the Department of Pediatrics and Inherited Metabolic Disorders, 1st Faculty of Medicine, Charles University and General Hospital in Prague. The performed clinical examinations include anthropometric measurements, bioimpedance, measurement of resting energy consumption by indirect calorimetry, measurement of skin algae with a caliper and comparison of the results of methods for determining the proportion of adipose tissue using a caliper and bioimpedances. All patients underwent EKG and cardiological examination, blood pressure measurement, heart rate. The laboratory examination was focused on the determination of serum protein levels, lipidogram, electrolyte levels, triiodothyronine and vitamin D. The aim of the practical part of the work was to find out what are the most common clinical manifestations and laboratory...
The impact of yoga on the eating pathology scores of the pediatrics anorexia nervosa inpatients
Hojková, Dana ; Ulrichová, Michaela (advisor) ; Vitujová, Marie (referee)
One of the presumptions of anorexia nervosa successful treatment is decreasing eating pathology which includes manipulation with food and laxative abuse. Many theses agree that eating pathology may be affected by a movement therapy included in the treatment. Decrease of eating pathology was established by the theses applying yoga, body awareness therapy and resistence training. However, none of the studies has been interested in pediatric patients with anorexia nervosa. The aim of this thesis is to verify the outcomes of foreign authors through the application of yoga to the multimodal treatment of pediatrics with anorexia nervosa. Yoga sessions ran 60 minutes, twice a week, 8 participants obtained 10 yoga sessions in total. The therapy took place in The clinic of pediatric psychiatry in FN Motol. The results did not establish the high effect of yoga to the level of eating pathology. That could be caused by the low quantity of participants.
Two-point discrimination in adolescent patients hospitalized with anorexia nervosa
Kočí, Gabriela ; Stackeová, Daniela (advisor) ; Demeková, Júlia (referee)
Anorexia nervosa (AN) is a mental illnes manifesting itselg, among other signs, with impaired body schema and rejection of food. Principal focus of the thesis was to assess the discrimination treshold, ability to evaluate sensory perception and body self-concept in adolescent female patients hospitalised with anorexia nervosa. Our goal was to clarify and better understand the still not adequately described neurophysiological aspects of anorexia nervosa. The results were compared to control group; both groups comprised 18 girls, the average age of observed group being 14,7 ± 0,71 years and average age of control group being 15,3 ±0,71 years. Two-point discrimination was examined in three areas - arm, between shoulder blades and belly - with modified caliper. The Petrie test was used in sensory perception testing, while body self-concept was measured with BAT questionare. The examinations were performed in standardised conditions during similar day times. We found significant difference in two-point discrimination in the area between the shoulder blades with significance level α = 5 % and p-value p = 0,0001. A statistically significant difference was also observed in body self-concept with significance level α = 5 % and p-value p = 0,017. Thus we conclude that patients suffering from anorexia nervosa...
