Sight translation - double transfer
Hradecká, Emma ; Čeňková, Ivana (referee) ; Abdallaova, Naděžda (advisor)
In this thesis we addressed the subject of sight translation. This special type of interpreting is often not given adequate academic attention even though it can be considered one of the most difficult exercises due to its dichotomic character. Sight translation is not mere transfer from one language to another, it is also transfer from written mode to oral mode. The most important characteristics, as well as the largest area of differentiation, of written and oral texts is syntax. Therefore, we centred our research on this issue. Our research is qualitative, with no hypothesis. We merely describe the situation in sight translation from English into Czech. We chose non-participant observation as the method of our research, thus decreasing the number of variables. The observation took place from January 2006 to September 2007 during State Final Exams at the Department of Translation Studies of the Charles University in Prague. All students specialized in interpreting. The empirical material consists of 13 original texts, 13 interpreters' renditions and 4 official translations that were available on official websites of the relevant institutions. In the theoretical part of our thesis we briefly characterise sight translation, drawing mainly on the doctoral thesis of Jimenez-Ivars (1999). Then we discuss the...

Determination of double bond position in higher hydrocarbons
Jersáková, Jana ; Barek, Jiří (advisor) ; Valterová, Irena (referee)
Hydrocarbons including alkenes are in addition to wax esteres, alcohols, ketones and acids one of the main compounds of insect cuticle. Hydrocarbons protect insect body against dry, water and UV radiation. In some species they play an important role in mutual communicative and recognition. Hydrocarbons profile can in some cases serve as fingerprint defining species specificity. Therefore, the position of double bonds in cuticular hydrocarbons is important. This work describes utilization of catalytic hydroxylation with polymer-supported osmium tetroxide as a derivatization technique to determine double bond position. Reaction conditions of hydroxylation and mass spectrometric fragmentation of derivatized alkenes were optimized for standard containing one double bond. These conditions were applied to real samples from the american cockroach Periplaneta americana and blowfly Neobellieria bullata.

Mašindová, Jana ; Náhlá, Jana (advisor) ; Svěcená, Kateřina (referee)
Full name: Jana Mašindová Supervisor: Mgr. Jana Náhlá Proposal for creation Snoezelen room in a geriatric centre Snoezelen therapy is carried out in a specially adapted room. It is a room equipped with a device that stimulates all human senses. Snoezelen room offers visitors opportunity to experience understanding, interaction and relaxation. Visitors are not forced to do activities; on the contrary, they may apply their own will and practise everything they like and what is enjoyable for them. The Bachelor thesis focuses on the use of Snoezelen room for geriatric clients. There are plenty of workplaces for child clients in the Czech Republic that tend to use Snoezelen room. However, there are only few workplaces dealing with Snoezelen for geriatric population, even though the method is utilized by this clientele abroad pretty often. The theoretical part of this paper summarises the area of Snoezelen and dementi, which abounds in old age quite frequently, as well. Moreover this section describes basal stimulation, which has extensive effect on people suffering from dementia and last but not least a link between the Snoezelen room and basal stimulation is mentioned here. The practical part analyses contemporary state and evaluates answers to the question: "How can a Snoezelen room be arranged and...

Analysis of Natural Gas Market of Uzbekistan
Bozhko, Aleksey ; Binhack, Petr (referee) ; Aslan, Emil (advisor)
The research is going to provide an analysis of Uzbek and Central Asian natural gas markets, demonstrating the advantages and disadvantages that Central Asian Republics (CARs) have in contrast with each other. The infrastructure and pricing constraint persistent to the landlocked Central Asian region is discussed as well. The paper applies SWOT model for the country based comparative analysis with the particular emphasis on Uzbekistan and insights gained from the SWOT model, as the part of opportunity section, are further utilized for demonstrating opportunities available for expanding production and export of Uzbek natural gas. Even though Kazakhstan has the most significant natural gas reserves among the CARs, country still cannot catch up with the production levels of Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan. The internal demand of Kazakh market for natural gas is much lower than the production capacity of the republic and this creates an opportunity of becoming a significant exporter of natural gas in the short-term period. 95-96 percent of natural gas consumed in Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan is imported from Uzbekistan. The natural gas produced in Uzbekistan covers the internal market demand, moreover, considering that the average annual production growth during the period of 1990-2008 has constituted 3.8 percent,...

Bendlová, Klára ; Dolanská, Nora (referee) ; Jirků, Vojtěch (advisor)
This bachelor thesis deals with the communication activities of the "Nadace Terezy Maxové dětem" foundation, in particular with the project TERIBEAR. This project is integrated in so called cause-related marketing, which is based on the principle of useful cooperation of a commercial subject and a noncommercial one for the sake of a good purpose. This bachelor thesis describes the communication activities of the foundation, which have been realized in order to support children placed in infantile asylums or children's homes, after the split-up of the indigenous "Nadace Terezy Maxové" foundation. The aim of this thesis is to demonstrate the necessity of utilizing the marketing tools in communication of the non-profit-making organizations. This thesis also includes the definition of the non-profit-making sector, in contrast to the profit-making sector. The non-profit-making sector is specific as compared with the profit-making one, which is evident in their different ways of communication. The particularities of the non-profit-making organizations are well shown in the way of using the marketing and communication tools in so called social marketing campaigns. On the basis of this fact, this thesis reflects the particularities of social marketing, which is used by the non-profit-making organizations. A...

EDUCATION AS AN IMPLEMENT FOR GREATER APPLICATION OF SENIORS ON THE LABOUR MARKET
Pospěchová, Michaela ; Vostrovská, Zdenka (advisor) ; Štípek, Vladimír (referee)
This bachelor thesis is based on aging population and the ways in which elderly people adapt to ongoing changes in society. In times of new technologies and innovations, older population find it more difficult to stay economically active. The purpose of this thesis is to analyze the influence of leisure education on active participation of senior population in job market, based on education in Universities of Third Age (U3A).I will analyze the influence of U3A on our seniors regarding their abilities and motivations in a job market in Czech Republic. Respondents will be divided into two groups. First will be from a capital city Prague, and the second from a smaller city Uherské Hradiště. The estimate number of respondents will be 100. This survey will be based on questioners which will help to establish if the percentage average of students or graduates of U3V in current employment in Czech Republic is higher then average of working seniors. Respondents will be divided into 5 year age groups. I will furthermore compare these results with working seniors in Germany. The theoretical part will include basic use of terminology regarding senior population, U3A and a job market. As well as description of motivation for studying It will include new development in universities and portfolios of educational courses. The practical part will include a quantitative research based on questionnaires and a universities SWOT analysis. The conclusion of my theses will either proof or refute the established hypothesis.

Employment of HPLC in the field of Drug analysis I.
Kalafut, Peter ; Kučera, Radim (advisor) ; Kovaříková, Petra (referee)
Curcumin with it's derivates belongs to pharmacologically acting diarylheptanoids. They are obtained from the herbal rhizomes of genus Curcuma spp. (Zingiberaceae), which are widespread in tropical regions of south-east Asia. For last decades the drug has been in focus of scientists. On the human organism there have been proven many interesting effects. Therapeutically are used it's choleretic, antioxidant and antiinflammatory activities. Nowadays the interest orientates to the prevention and treatment of cancer and to the favourable influence on Alzheimer's disease. After oral administration, however, curcumin achieves the system circulation only in traces. In introduced study we developed HPLC method for the determination of curcuminoids. The most advantageous way is extracting the pigments from the herb or extract with methanol as relatively polar solvent. In the aqueous medium is practically unsoluble. The presence of three acid hydrogens exhibits in the alkaline aqueous solutions. The resultating ionisation is documented by color change from yellow to red. These conditions prejudice the stability of the substance - in part we may prevent the degradation by using the antioxidants and keeping in dark place. The analysis utilizes a reversed-phase C18 column and involves the use of an external...

Efficient Gathering of Performance Information on Multicore Systems
Tůma, Tomáš
Modern multicore processors provide performance counters that export information on various essential aspects of software execution, from instruction decoding to cache utilization. Typically, a processor is capable of counting a small subset from hundreds of different event types, the events themselves can occur almost every processor clock tick. This yields a significant amount of data which is difficult to collect without disrupting the execution itself. The goal of the thesis is to apply compressive sampling - a special method of sampling signals that allows to reconstruct sparse signal from a small number of samples - to the performance counter data.

Probabilistic Models and Methods for the Analysis of Sports Results
Rambousková, Daniela ; Saxl, Ivan (referee) ; Volf, Petr (advisor)
The statistical modelling on a sports field is in the process of a great development. Sports clubs have gradually changed into commercial companies and thus many possibilities how to take advantages of statistical instruments have emerged. Undoubtedly, the most popular task is the prediction of possible future results. The first part of this thesis summarizes the most interesting methods and types of solutions that were developed primarily for football matches. In this case the Poissons' regression models are mainly used. However, when the influences of time are taken into consideration, these models become more difficult and complicated for computations. The second part deals with the statistical survival analysis and random point processes and tries to find its utilization and connection with the predictions of the results of sports matches. On the basis of the Cox' regression model, a simple model for ice-hockey matches is derived here. This model estimates offensive and defensive forces of every team and other influences, for instance power plays and home environment. It describes the match as a random point process, where the time of scoring represents its random points. The model is applied on the data obtained from the first thirteen rounds of the Czech National Ice-hockey League and the received...

Survey of the methods of costing of hospitalization
Matějovicová, Ivana ; Šiška, Ladislav (advisor) ; Matyáš, Ondřej (referee)
The thesis, Survey of the methods of costing of hospitalization, deals with the characteristics of the classification system DRG used for costing of hospitalization. The first half of the theoretical part of this work describes the Czech health care in general and specific ways of financing it. We focus on the costs related to the emergency care in hospitals which are classified by the DRG system. The second half of the theoretical part studies the actual principles of costing of hospitalization. The method chosen for this is called Activity Based Costing (ABC). It defines the procedures of costing which are being used in hospitals. At the end, we provide a description of the current and suggested procedures of costing of hospitalization and how they are utilized to set up parameters of the reimbursing mechanism. The practical part of this thesis maps the situation of hospitalization financing in Klatovska nemocnice, a. s. We suggest a new way of financing based on the methodology DRG Restart. Base on the data obtained in Klatovska nemocnice, a. s. we summarize and compare the results of the new method to the current one.
