Data mining from incoming e-mail messages
Šebesta, Jan ; Žemlička, Michal (advisor) ; Hnětynka, Petr (referee)
In the present work we study possibilities of automatic sorting of incoming email communication. Our primary goal is to distinguish information about oncoming workshops and conferences, job off ers and published books. We are trying to develop tool to mine the information from data from professional mailing lists. Off ers in the mailing lists come in html, rtf or plain text format, but the information in it is written in common spoken language. We are developing the system so it will use text mining methods to extract the information and save it structured form. Than we will be able to work with it. We are examining the handling of the mails by user and apply the knowledge in the development. We solve the problems with obtaining of the messages, distinguishing language and encoding and estimating the type of message. After recognition of the bearing information we are able to mine data. In the end we save the mined information to the database, which allows us to display it in well{arranged way, sort and search according to the user needs.

Use of International Internet Projects in Foreign Language Learning/Teaching (with special focus on learning/teaching French as a foreign language and on the European activity eTwinning)

KISS: Interpreter's strategy during the interpreting into the mother tongue and into the B language
Malkovská, Alžběta ; Sládková, Miroslava (referee) ; Čeňková, Ivana (advisor)
This thesis focuses on the topic of the KISS strategy ("Keep it short and simple") as a hypothetical ideal solution for simultaneous interpreting into the active language. The purpose of this theoretical and empirical study is to describe the issue of interpreting into the active language (B language) and the strategies used in simultaneous interpreting, with emphasis on the KISS strategy. The paper is divided into two parts: theoretical part and empirical part. In the theoretical part, we set up the working hypothesis that we will confirm or disprove in the empirical part. We suppose that the KISS strategy is the ideal and predominant mechanism used for interpreting into the B language. The "retour" or interpretation into the active foreign language presents one of the most discussed topics on the field of interpretation theory. For a long time, Western Europe has been under the influence of the Interpretive Theory of Translation based at the ESIT in Paris. The Interpretive Theory of Translation was followed by many theoreticians and practicians who considered the "retour" to be a non-standard or even inadmissible direction of interpreting. The situation changed after the fall of the Berlin Wall and the onset of the globalization, and the interpretation into the B language has gradually become an everyday...

Swiss Federalism
Pláničková, Eva ; Říchová, Blanka (advisor) ; Just, Petr (referee)
This text discusses some aspects of Swiss federalism. Therefore we firstly give some basic general information about framework of federalism. At the introductory chapter we explain briefly what federalism actually is, and how it differs from other political forms. We come with a statement that federalism is a process, more than a structure - a constant attempt to achieve the balance between the elements of autonomy and participation within a system of usually territorially based member states. Second chapter is dedicated to historical background and circumstances that led to adoption of federal idea in Switzerland. Federalism had been pt into practice because of high level of diversity (language, religious communities) on the territory which disabled to use a system that would apply the same rules for everybody. Federal arrangement was the only acceptable form with the aim to serve as a conflict management tool (the Protestant cantons wanted a more centralized state, the Catholics wanted to preserve the sovereignty of the cantons). All these circumstances led to a formation of a federal state, whose goal was, to balance the cantonal sovereignty and central harmonisation. The cantons agreed to be bound together, as far as the state does not touch their basic autonomy. The institutionalization of cultural...

The formulation of the conclusions of the analysis is done in the last fourth chapter Charakteristic features of wedding speeches. We engage in bromide...

Bohadlová, Jana ; Bartůněk, Dušan (advisor) ; Turčová, Ivana (referee)
Title: Use of outdoor activities in teaching general educational subjects at elementary schools, specialized for English. Goal: The goal is to create a textbook of games and activities available for teaching English at elementary schools. Part of the purpose is also the inclusion ofthe games in English lessons at schools, observation of propriety and process of the activities, and the children's reactions to the games in the natural environment. Methods: Research was divided into two parts. The first part was to collect facts from literature and select suitable games and activities in nature. We tested and played those games in the second part of the research. We examined the usability and propriety ofthe games and the children's reactions to them. The main method we used for data collecting was a questionnaire for teachers. The cooperating teachers had incorporated the games into their English lessons for two months. Then they summarized their opinions and thoughts in the prepared questionnaire, the results ofwhich are evaluated and presented. As a part of the data collecting we also used an informational probe for children. The results of the probe helped us to catch sight ofthe children's immediate reactions to their experience ofthe activities andgames. Results: We gathered a lot of outdoor...

Automatic Extraction of Lexico-Syntactic Information from Corpora
Bojar, Ondřej
The presented work investigates methods for semi-automatic extraction of lexico-syntactic information from corpora, particularly the information on subcategorization and valency frames. We document that at present time, PDT and CNC corpora are not sufficient for this task. We describe a simple method for a selective extension of corpora based on texts from Internet. We evaluate three parsers available for Czech with respect to the task of extracting verb frames. We have implemented a linguistically motivated ltration of input sentences to identify "very simple sentences", which helps the parsers to achieve better accuracy. The system AX designed in this work is more generic, any kind of linguistic fi ltration can be employed. The system is also suitable for creating partial or full parsers of natural languages. The thesis also presents a user's guide to the system AX. Furthermore, we compare methods for extraction of subcategorization frames from observed frames. We classify observed frames into a hierarchy suitable for human anotators. Finally, several problems of automatic extraction of valency frames are discussed.

A Style Checker for Czech
Doležalová, Drahomíra
We have studied selected stylistic and grammatic problems of Czech (e. g. attraction, degrees of comparison, compound adverbs, conjunction nebo meaning determination, crossing of government, vocalization of prepositions). Theoretical part of our work consists of (mostly original) detailed analyses of all the phenomena studied; these analyses focus on the possibilities of the formal description of the phenonema and their automatic detection. We consider the results connected with an analysis of attraction the most valuable asset of this part. The implementation part of the work contains several rules written in the Language for grammatical Rules - LanGR. They are able to find some problematic constructions in morphologically annotated (in principle condisambiguated) text. We performed tests on the Prague Dependency Tree corpus (PDT) (1 500 000 manually disambiguated words), where we succeeded in finding 59 style mistakes keeping absolute precision. The implementation contains also a Perl script for vocalization of prepositions in Czech.

Actor and work
Šmíd, Petr ; PAVLATA, Michal (advisor) ; HLAVICA, Lukáš (referee)
The thesis brings the definition of an actor, his work or piece and the relationship between them. Then I describe aspects of that relationship, which has direct influence for actor works. The most important are director and partners on the scene and around and next the theatre space and scene space (set design solution etc.). The thesis has also chapter about needs to know yourself for acting. And then I describe the ways with a drama text, undramatic text and without text too. How we were working without text and what it mean for me and my character. Next chapters are about extreme forms of actor‘s work. Which is performance and immersive theatre. The last two chapters are about film acting and acting with text in foreign language.

Parentheticals from a stylistic perspective
Janíková, Lucie ; Adam, Robert (referee) ; Hošnová, Eva (advisor)
This study is an analysis of parentheticals and their usage in texts of different styles. Parentheticals are a neglected phenomenon in the literature and they have been characterised in many different ways. For that reason, the first part of this study is focused on a detailed characterisation of parentheticals and their basic traits. Parentheticals were defined as nonsyntactic structures inserted into, and interrupting 'host' clauses. The parentheticals concur with a part of the host clause and are related to it. Other characteristics are typographic (brackets, dashes) or sound differentiation (pauses). In the second part of this work we analysed 4000 examples gained from text excerpts and from the Czech language Corpus database, from searches based on typographic differentiation. Those examples were from general corpus syn2005 and from corpuses of different styles: fictional, scientific and publicistic. From this number of examples we found 303 parentheticals, the remainder not corresponding with our definition. We observed the means of concurrence with host clauses. We found 259 parentheticals with anaphoric and 44 kataphoric concurrences. In all styles the parentheticals used mostly the same agents: pronoun substitution, wider coherency and co-reference. Parentheticals were divided into two functions:...
