Knowledge transfer on the background of National Innovation System: the case of Czech biotechnology firms
Vinař, Radim ; Perlín, Radim (advisor) ; Tomeš, Jiří (referee)
9 Abstract It has been widely acknowledged that the ability to learn, to apply outcomes of R&D and to innovate are key-factors of contemporary economic competitiveness. These aspects are of increasing importance in conditions of the Czech republic as well. Therefore, ambition of this diploma thesis is to deepen current insufficient knowledge in this field in our country. The thesis describes interactions of knowledge-intensive biotechnology companies with the innovation millieu of the Czech republic by analyzing the process of scientific knowledge transfer. It aims at identification of the ways in which knowledge is transfered in applied R&D and at rating the importance of different sources of knowledge for biotech firms. At the same time it identifies actors and institutions of czech biotechnology sector and their relations. In order to display linkages between different subjects in biotechnology, the concept of National Innovation System is used. Further, the importance of different spatial levels for knowledge transfer is analyzed and major institutional and social barriers for development of biotechnology sector are discussed. The thesis concludes by making a distinction between formal (joint research activities) and non-formal types (spare-time meetings) of knowledge transfer. Universities, research...

Copmplex conception of health and sustainable developement
Krýslová, Simona ; Rynda, Ivan (advisor) ; Haškovcová, Helena (referee)
My diploma thesis deals with the topic of health and sustainable development. I am working with two topical Euro-American concepts, the socio-ecological model of health as promoted by the WHO (holistic concept of health) and the strategy of sustainable development as I acquainted myself with it during my studies at the School of Humanities of the Charles University. First of all, I analyse both concepts by means of expert sources. I emphasize their characteristic features, compare them and carry out a synthesis. On grounds of that I demonstrate three established hypotheses: 1. the holistic concept of health and the strategy of sustainable development with regard to their historical development are not only complementary but also mutually conditional concepts; 2. the holistic concept of health and the strategy of sustainable development have many common features; 3. the holistic concept of health is a natural and indispensable part of sustainable development. I began to be interested in interconnecting those topics in my diploma thesis in the moment I found out what both these interdisciplinary and systematic concepts have in common. At the same time, the interconnection was the most precarious part of my work. I did not expect to have any particular difficulties with separating individual features from...

Versatile use of liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry in drug metabolism studies
Suchanová, Bohumila ; Wsól, Vladimír (advisor) ; Solich, Petr (referee) ; Lemr, Karel (referee)
Human organism has always been exposed to a vast array of chemicals encountered in the environment. Chemical revolution has significantly influenced biological evolution of humans leading to serious unpredictable toxicities. In response to continual chemical stress they have developed a variety of enzymes to transform these xenobiotics. Xenobiotics are mostly highly lipophilic and cannot readily be excreted from the body without metabolism to more hydrophilic, water-soluble metabolites. Not only environmental chemicals represent xenobiotics but also drugs, dietary components etc. Biotransformation studies play an important role in the drug discovery and development process. Usually data from drug metabolism is required before a new substance can advance towards the development stages of a new therapeutic agent. Data on metabolism is frequently used to optimize drug candidates, suggest more active compounds or support toxicology studies. The increased flux of new chemical entities into drug discovery has placed an increased need for fast and reliable information on the metabolism of these substances. Liquid chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry can meet demands for rapid drugs and metabolites analysis imposed by modern drug discovery strategies. This dissertation thesis presents an evidence...

Family and connected things
Jeřábková, Marie ; Pešková, Jaroslava (advisor) ; Lášek, Jan Blahoslav (referee) ; Semrádová, Ilona (referee)
Family has gone through its own change during the course time and it seems that a complexity of time and a complexity of a situation inside the family das not fully aliowe a creation of a security of home and proximity. A man is disturbed, he/she lapses from ones s own principles nad often even looses meaning. Where a relationship can be terminated any time, a man does not have to make any efforts.. A hope for a melamoipliosis of a man oilers a chance for him to "return to oneself'' and to - from inside - understand a necessity for "nurturing" his or her own partnership with a lasting care - a marriage preceeded by "exclusivity" of a partner's choice. A quality of marriage and a foundation of a family is then found in a Jove lived", despite failures, where "two freedoms" meet, mutually offering their own opportunities and also belief in The Other one with the absolute hope in his or her change a"d his or her lasting discovery. Once a man understands the problem (?) he/she will find that a family and home represent for a child the highest value - the greatest gift inside which a child can grow and to let grow the original human "it", which will enable liim/or her to meet one's own "das Selbst", the wholeness of the world and of the universe. In the security of home not only a respect for difference can také...

Jak čelit nejistotě při rozhodování o odstranění fosforu ve vodohospodářství
Brabec, Jan ; Vojáček, Ondřej (advisor) ; Zajíček, Miroslav (referee)
Implementation of EU Water Framework Directive has led to an increased demand for cost-benefit analysis in water management. The directive introduces a good status, which is required on all water bodies by 2027. Excessive phosphorus inflows are one of the main reasons for not meeting the criteria in the Czech Republic. If achieving of the good status is not cost-proportionate, exemption can be applied. Many different methodologies were created across different states, including Czech official methodology by Slavíková et al. (2015). However, this methodology does not deal with uncertainty of measures effectiveness. This thesis describes how to implement the uncertainty into calculations using Bayesian networks. A case study of Stanovice water reservoir demonstrates the approach practically. Results of the Bayesian network show, that selected measures with available data eliminate desired amount of phosphorus in 70% of all cases. This reduction is most likely sufficient, because it holds for the upper estimate of required abatement (60 to 200 kg). Based on comparison of benefits and costs, it seems net benefits are generated by implementing suggested measures. Therefore, policy recommendation is to implement the selected measures.
