Local versus Global Sources of Competitiveness - case study of Czech outdoor firms
Vojáčková, Lenka ; Blažek, Jiří (advisor) ; Rumpel, Petr (referee)
The importance of innovation for competitiveness and economic development forms an important topic in current economic geography and related fields. At present, many authors are of the opinion that diverse networks of relations, connecting sources of competitiveness at different spatial levels are vital to a firm's competitiveness. With this thesis I hope to contribute to the understanding of the geography of relations crucial for the innovation and competitiveness of SMEs. I focus on Czech producers of outdoor equipment, which constitute a young, progressive and less-studied sector. I am especially interested in the location of strategic knowledge and the importance of various types of closeness in accessing such knowledge. In the Czech outdoor industry, a-spatial forms of proximity have greater significance. In contrast to international trade fairs, firms do not consider regional sources of competitiveness relevant. National and international social networks are important as well. The interconnection of formal and informal relations is very common in the outdoor industry as a significant number of entrepreneurs are members of the mountaineering or climbing community themselves. About 50% of these enterprises have moved their production to East Asia, where they are able to find cheaper labour as well as...

Utilization of XML databases for retrieval of data-mining specifications
Marek, Tomáš ; Kliegr, Tomáš (advisor) ; Kosek, Jiří (referee)
The aim of this work is to create a querying system in analytical reports stored as PMML documents. These PMML documents are stored in native XML database, because these documents are structured as XML documents. Selected XML database is available for free and its resources and means meet the proposed solution. Also searching algorithm is created to search these documents by means of XQuery language. Inasmuch as searched data have the character of the XML data the use of language for querying XML data suggests. In terms of the use of the XQuery language structure of PMML document was explored and data links in these documents was used to ensure proper search results. Results of the search are association rules from these analytical reports stored in PMML documents, requests of the search are attributes to be in the rules, their values and other limits of the search. So that the whole system is complete and could be fully used, it is necessary to create a communication environment through which the work with stored data is performed. For this purpose, Java and REST(ful) architecture for creating applications are used.

The theoretical-methodological introduction defines the literary term of symbol, allegory and sign with a brief introduction of the psychoanalytic reading of symbols. The second part of the theoretical opening introduces the term of the fantastic and also Tvzvetan Todorov's structural approach to this literary genre. The distinctions between different readings such as the poetry and the allegory, which both abolish the fantastic, are also pointed out in the introduction. The following definitions of literary genres of the uncanny and the marvellous focus on the narrow boundaries between these two genres and the fantastic, which is placed in between the marvellous and the uncanny. Furthermore, the introduction part also focuses on the genres of fantasy and science fiction, as they often mix or coincide with the fantastic in the literature of the 20th century. A shorter chapter also describes the term of Sigmund Freud's the uncanny (das Unheimliche), because it might be closer to the pure fantastic than to Thodorov's concept of the uncanny. The analysis of dramas focuses primarily on the construction, the fantastic and the...

User Interfaces for Editing Transfer Functions
Svoboda, Michal ; Krajíček, Václav (referee) ; Maršálek, Lukáš (advisor)
Visualization of volume data is nowadays still actual theme in computer graphics. The reason is a significant role of volume data in fields such as medicine, biology or simulation of physics experiments. In order to create informative visualizations of volume data, it is necessary to create so-called "transfer functions" that maps input values to a displayable quantity. Creating transfer functions is often difficult and lengthy process. Often considerable expertise is also required from the user. The aim of this work is to design user interface for creating and editing transfer functions, which would work as intuitively as possible. The basic requirement is a direct interaction between transfer function and displayed data. The result of this work is user interface, which does not put high demands on specialized knowledge of the user.
