Knor, Stanislav ; Prokop, Jakub (advisor) ; Teodoridis, Vasilis (referee)
Terrestrial plants and insects account for the majority of the Earth's biodiversity today, and almost half of all insect species are herbivores. Thus, insects and plants share ancient associations date back for more than 400 million years. However, investigation of their interactions stands largely at the beginning in Western Europe. Nearly 4300 plant remains showing various kinds of feeding damages are available for the present study. These trace fossils are classified as so-called functional feeding-groups supply an outstanding example of the complexity, the structure and the changes of terrestrial ecosystems, are not well known during this interval. In Europe, the Neogene is characterized by palaeogeographic re- organization due to the collision of the African with the Eurasian plates. The Neogene plant record in Europe is rich and diverse offering a profound large-scale understanding of the floristic and vegetational development. A database of fossil traces from the Most Basin was compiled and analyzed by various statistical methods in terms of the diversity and intensity of palaeo-herbivory. The primary objective is to present results on the development of insect herbivory through the section of the Bílina Mine in North Bohemia, with the aim of understanding principal factors that caused the...

The physic-geographical issues in the preparation of students of economics high-schools
Dobrylovský, Jiří
This assignment deals with the problem of determining the share of physical- geographical problems in high-school geography textbooks. It compares the development of the share of the problem in textbooks of high-schools of economic specializations and of grammar-schools from the period of the 1920s to the beginning of the third millennium. It also compares the results of pedagogical researches carried out in the past, whereas the matching of the results received is very good. Based on the methodology of a quantitative pedagogical research formulated in professional publications of various authors, I am trying to arrive at conclusions, which represent a principally new view of the issues of high-school geography teaching. Development trends, which I managed to discover in the assignment, show that the significance of physical geography in the teaching methods at both types of high-schools was gradually diminished, whereas at economic-profiled high-schools this diminishment took a much faster speed. A part of the research includes also the verification if the students in a long-term horizon are laid increased or decreased demands especially in the viewpoint of the expected geographic knowledge. This assignment shows that the demands were reduced at grammar- schools, whilst at economic high-schools...

Image interpretation value and its purpose in creation of scientific figures and infographics
Phung, Hyu Nghia ; Sigmund, Tomáš (advisor) ; Horný, Stanislav (referee)
Graphic figures and various types of infographics have become an essential part of the scientific papers, business presentations and study materials. Although, authors of these documents often lack the knowledge of basic rules and principles of graphic design and learn how to create figures by trial and error. Literature addressing the issues of effective verbal (presentation skills) and non-verbal (principles of scientific writing) is available and accessible. Though literature addressing the issues of scientific figure design and general visual design are very few, sometimes non existent, despite the fact that images, figures and various charts are one of the most effective mediums for information sharing. This lack of material knowledge is detrimental to the quality of works of managers, professors and researchers. This thesis attempts to fill in this gap and motivate readers to further development and research of the issue. The thesis addresses the issue of figures from its core, those being the basic principles of image perception and interpretation. Building on concepts of theorists like Peirce, Saussure and Eco the thesis will then define the meaning and purpose of "Image Interpretation Value". Selected principles of figure construction and interpretation will be introduced. These principles will then be further analyzed and applied on the level of business and scientific figures. Each chapter will include various graphic figures and practical examples to enhance further understanding of the issue. The primary purpose and goal of this thesis is to create an easy-to-follow set of instructions and suggestions on how to design effective and intelligible figures to be used in the fields of business communication, scientific research and academic teaching.

However, this means is not in an existential vacuum and thus has to react on dynamic changes in international environment for its effective functioning. Raising interest of international trade liberalization and growing importance of private sector in creation of foreign policy forms further development of the diplomacy. Thus, the economic diplomacy is becoming more important with an aim to implement country's vision in economic area. This topic is the main subject of the presented bachelor thesis. In 2012, German government published document "Shaping Globalization - Expanding Partnership - Sharing Responsibility". The primary aim of the thesis is to examine the influence of this new strategy on the German economic diplomacy. The key part of the thesis is dedicated to the strategy itself and is divided into multilateral (macro) and bilateral (mikro) objectives. First aspect pursues economic priorities on a level of international organizations. Bilateral part analyses reasons why Germany decided to orient economically on so called new players, why is Germany interested in their mutual commercial relations and which challenges result from it for the economic diplomacy. The secondary aim is to explain the structure, tasks and decision making process of the German economic diplomacy, because this information is not provided in detail by neither Czech nor Slovak scholar publications.

Analýza obchodních vztahů mezi Evropskou unií a Latinskou Amerikou
Daza Aramayo, Lourdes Gabriela ; Krebs, Vojtěch (advisor) ; Macháček, Jaroslav (referee) ; Benáček, Vladimír (referee)
The Doctoral Thesis "Analysis of Trade Relations between the European Union and Latin America from 1995-2011" focuses on the determination Latin America's potential as a trading partner for the European Union. It will be based on an analysis of the region's trade relationships between 1995 and 2011 through different econometric models and a macroeconomic analysis. It will make recommendations for improving economic relation policies with Latin America and the European Union as well as identify the sectors which could represent great potential for trade between both regions. The research is divided into seven chapters: The first chapter covers international trade theory; this part comprises the theoretical aspects directly related to international trade. The second chapter analyzes the macroeconomic features of Latin American countries and compares them with data from the European Union. A separate, detailed analysis of 17 Latin American countries was performed and the potential of each one to make their importance known to the world and define their geopolitical position is described. The third chapter details the trade policies of the European Union and Latin America. The fourth chapter discusses trade relations between Latin America and the European Union through a look at the trade agreements that have been signed between the European Union and Latin American countries and tries to identify possible causes of failures for agreements not signed. This chapter also studies the sectorial composition of trade between the two regions, emphasizing the asymmetry between these trades flows as they enter the countries studied. The fifth chapter, the heart of this research paper, analyzes the trade relations between the EU and Latin America through a gravity model, identifying the obstacles and barriers to international trade between the two regions. The second part of this chapter discusses institutional factors, which, as a result of the conclusions from the gravity model explained earlier in the chapter, play an important role in international trade between Latin America and the European Union. This section contains a comparative analysis of the situation of the institutional factors in the 29 Latin American countries which were analyzed in the gravity model. This chapter also includes a trade simulation between the Czech Republic and Latin America with the institutional factors in Latin America showing a 10% improvement. In the sixth chapter, the competitiveness of 17 Latin American countries is calculated using the results of the barriers to international trade through a new method based on the comparison of indicators, ranked by dimension and according to the weight thereof for a period of time. The last chapter focuses on the identification of the variables determining foreign direct investment in Latin America, represented by 29 countries and over a period of time from 1995 to 2011. It considers variables traditionally not considered such as the number of patents registered, the tax rate and institutional factors, which have revealed important explanatory variables as well as those traditionally considered such as GDP, inflation, population, the share of GDP by sector, income level, etc. The last part of this research lists the conclusions reached and proposes recommendations for economic relations policy development between Latin America and the European Union.
